Chapter 426: Chapter 426: Daisy Willow’s Rise (3)
After breakfast, Katie helped wash the dishes, and then Daisy Willow took Elena back to the villa.
As they entered, Mrs. Duncan was sitting in the living room waiting for them. Upon seeing Daisy return, she immediately stood up and said, "Daisy Willow, do you have no shame? Didn’t you say you didn’t want to come back to our family?"
"Don’t worry, Auntie. I came here today mainly to discuss with Cole what you’ve always hoped that we’d discuss. Once that’s settled, you won’t see me again." Daisy looked at Mrs. Duncan and, without her previous submissive demeanor, told Katie, "Katie, could you please look after Elena for me? Thank you."
"... Yes, Young Mistress." Katie hurriedly came forward to take Elena’s hand and led her to her room in the villa. At that moment, Katie thought that the young mistress was very domineering.
"..." Not only Katie thought so, but even Mrs. Duncan noticed that Daisy had changed. Who gave her such courage that she dared to look her straight in the eye and talk to her that way? Had something happened to her yesterday that made her so bold?
Mrs. Duncan regretted not having someone follow her; otherwise, she would’ve known what this woman was up to yesterday.
"What did you call me?" Just as Daisy was about to turn around and find Cole to talk, Mrs. Duncan suddenly asked coldly.
"Auntie," Daisy repeated calmly, "Isn’t this what you’ve always been waiting for? Why do you look so incredulous now?"
At that moment, Daisy strengthened her resolve. In the past, she had shown respect to Mrs. Duncan for Cole’s sake and, later, for Elena’s. However, now that Elena was so afraid of her grandmother, she could no longer tolerate this malicious woman.
All the servants present didn’t dare to breathe. They had never expected their usually gentle young mistress to have such courage.
"Daisy Willow, who gave you the audacity to talk to me like this?" Mrs. Duncan was so furious she wanted to scream. With a wave of her hand, she attempted to slap Daisy across her cheek.
But Daisy would no longer tolerate her actions. She reached out her hand and intercepted Mrs. Duncan’s arm midway. Daisy was at least younger and stronger. In the past, she allowed the slapping to maintain the peace at home, but now that she no longer considered Mrs. Duncan her mother-in-law, she wouldn’t let a stranger bully her.
"Respecting you by calling you Auntie doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want to me. Take care of yourself, Auntie. Everyone has their limits, and it’s foolish to challenge them." Having said her piece, Daisy let go of Mrs. Duncan’s arm, turned around, and headed straight for Cole’s room.
Mrs. Duncan just stared as Daisy entered Cole’s room, looking stunned, as if questioning whether Daisy had taken the wrong medicine that morning.
Cole had been awake for a while now. He clearly heard the conversation between Daisy and Mrs. Duncan before she entered the room. He also understood that when Daisy called her "Auntie," it meant that she had made up her mind to leave him. In that case, it would be challenging for him to persuade her to stay.
As Daisy entered the room, she was met with a complicated expression in Cole’s eyes. He must have heard her disrespect towards his mother earlier.
They stared at each other, neither of them speaking first, mainly because Daisy didn’t know how to start explaining what had just happened.
