Chapter 410: Chapter 410: Lingering Evil Spirits (5)

But now, Charles Carrington’s lips were tightly sealed; although he uttered a bunch of words, nothing substantial could be pried from his mouth.

"I can try, but I’m not sure how much I can help. I was in Kyoto for a meeting during Charles’s father’s birthday celebration and only returned last night. By the time I heard about the incident, they’d already issued a rectification notice." He was busy all morning and hadn’t had time to contact Bryan, but then Bryan had called him first.

"It’s fine. As I said, we’ll follow the government’s guidance and suspend operations for rectification. Don’t feel guilty about it. It was just a simple gathering, and if today isn’t convenient for you, we can reschedule." Bryan spoke casually.

"You’re talking shit. If you’re already here, there’s nothing inconvenient about it. Tell me your exact location, and I’ll come at 11:30." David Murphy couldn’t help but curse on the other end of the phone. He wasn’t afraid of being criticized; after all, he was the mayor, and Bryan was just an acquaintance.

The whole ordeal was a bit strange. Verina hadn’t recently set up shop in City A; it had been operating for years with no issues, so this sudden incident was rather surreal to everyone.

"Alright, I’m in the Sunshine Hotel next door to Verina, room 1608. I’ll order lunch and wait for you. What do you want to eat?" Bryan was in a good mood, despite David’s temper. He had always wondered how a man with such a disposition had become the mayor.

"Eat light, but make it expensive. You’re so damn rich; I need to squeeze you." David tended to be quite unreserved around Bryan.

"Sure, eat to your heart’s content." Bryan nonchalantly hung up the phone.

After calling David, Bryan called Carolline.

Carolline had just gotten off work, and after a sleepless night, she was still snoozing. When the phone rang, she bolted upright in bed. Seeing that it was Bryan’s call, she felt somewhat relieved. "How’s it going? Is it serious?"

"Nope. Were you worried about this all night?" Bryan chuckled softly, surprised to see Carolline so concerned. It was his responsibility; he should have considered more possibilities.

Carolline didn’t respond, which was as good as admitting it.

"Don’t worry, your husband can handle anything. I’ll sort it out in no more than a week – maybe even three to five days. I bet you haven’t gotten out of bed yet, right?" Bryan even had the leisure to joke, which reassured Carolline quite a bit.

She didn’t know yet that Bryan liked to treat serious matters lightly. Of course, this incident only seemed serious on the surface.

"Mm-hmm." Carolline responded softly, feeling somewhat wronged. She had worried about him for most of the night, only falling asleep at three or four in the morning.

"Heh, do you miss me?" Noticing the hint of hurt in her voice, Bryan’s heart ached for her as well. Carolline didn’t answer. "Wifey, I miss you."

Bryan wasn’t aware that Xavier was walking out of the room just as he said those words. The never-before-seen clinginess of the boss startled Xavier, but it only made Bryan seem even more attractive.

"..." Carolline’s heart trembled, and then a wave of joy and happiness enveloped her. She never thought Bryan would say something so sweet to her, and it only took a simple "I miss you" to make her this happy.

It was clear that her satisfaction threshold was quite low. As long as Bryan was involved, she was easily pleased.

"You can go ahead and take care of your business. I have an afternoon shift." Carolline was worried that he still had work to do, so she didn’t dare to talk to him for too long.
