Chapter 381: Chapter 381: High-profile Etiquette (2)
When Giselle introduced Avery Graham as her cousin, Kent Auclair was extremely happy and excited for several days. Eventually, he found Giselle and tactfully brought up the subject. He didn’t expect to hear that Avery’s mom, Giselle’s Aunt, was currently helping her cousin find a suitable match and that Kent himself met all the excellent conditions they were looking for.
Kent gave his photo to Giselle to show her Aunt, who was of course satisfied. Although Kent couldn’t compare to Bernard Taylor, he still stood out among ordinary people. So, seeing such a high-quality man, how could Avery’s mom not be happy?
"..." So that’s what happened. Avery finally understood, but could this really count as love?
"Avery, I heard from Giselle that you genuinely want to find a partner, and so do I. So, can we give each other a chance? I’ll be good to you." Kent wasn’t good at sweet-talking, but he earnestly said what was on his mind.
"...Let’s give it a try." Avery nodded, recalling the incident in the afternoon when Bernard’s mom came looking for her. She really didn’t want to have to deal with the incessant and relentless entanglements of Bernard and his mom. So, it was best to find a legitimate boyfriend and start a relationship.
"Thank you." At that moment, Kent let out a sigh of relief, realizing he had been extremely nervous while waiting for Avery’s answer.
"..." Did he really need to thank her for that?
Avery shook her head. Wasn’t Giselle saying that Kent was humorous and witty? In their company he was supposedly a smooth talker, admired by many young female colleagues. But now, all Avery saw was a somewhat awkward man.
However, such a man would likely be faithful to his marriage. Although Avery didn’t expect a passionate and tumultuous marriage, she still hoped for a steady one. If she ever encountered an unfaithful man, she wouldn’t hesitate to divorce him—she had no patience for entanglements.
Once they established their relationship, since it was getting late, Kent sent Avery home and they agreed to meet on the weekend. Avery didn’t refuse, knowing that as a couple, they needed to spend weekends together.
Avery returned to her rented home, not her family home, knowing that her mom would be impatient to hear the outcome. After all, since Giselle worked under Kent, her mom would find out soon enough.
After waving goodbye to Kent, Avery went straight to the residential area, swiped her access card for the main gate, and entered without looking back. Kent watched her figure until she had turned a corner and disappeared from view, then he got in his car and left.
Avery lowered her head and walked towards her apartment. Her savings from over the years were actually enough for a down payment on a house. However, she had invested all her money into the cake shop, so she wouldn’t be able to own a house until the following year at the earliest.
She didn’t like living at home—adults needed some distance from their parents, or conflicts would inevitably arise over time. This was true even for her relationship with her own mom, let alone a mother-in-law.
Thus, Avery had already decided that when she got married, she would live separately from her mother-in-law. This was the best way to avoid any mother-in-law/daughter-in-law conflicts and spare her husband from being caught in the middle.
This was also why, when a single dormitory became available at the People Hospital, she immediately applied for it. Once it was assigned to her, she moved out of her family home right away.
