Chapter 380: Chapter 380: High-Profile Etiquette (1)
Nelson put his hand on Bernard’s shoulder, "What are you looking at? People thought you had a thing for Avery before, and I didn’t believe it. But now it seems like there’s some truth to it. Look at your eyes just now, as if you wanted to rush in and drag her out."
Of course, Nelson whispered this in Bernard’s ear. He dared not say it in front of everyone. The beautiful women present were all Bernard’s fans. If he were careless, he could be in big trouble.
Back when Avery hadn’t left their second hospital, her closeness to Bernard made her a thorn in the side of his fans. Now that she had finally escaped, if Nelson didn’t watch his words, he might cause her some trouble again.
Bernard turned his face and stared at Nelson fiercely. It was his fault for talking nonsense.
"Alright, alright. I said the wrong thing, little brother. Let’s go – everyone’s waiting for you." Nelson backed down, quickly making a smiling face to please him.
Only then did Bernard go over. However, having met Avery and listened to the recording his mother played for him, he no longer had the enthusiasm to deal with everyone else.
After dinner, there was karaoke planned. Bernard didn’t go, making up an excuse. Instead, he handed Nelson a stack of money, saying that he’d pay for tonight’s expenses before heading off in a taxi, disappearing from everyone’s sight.
Inside the house, Avery was completely unaffected by Bernard and was chatting happily with Kent Auclair.
"Mr. Auclair, ..." Avery began but was interrupted by Kent, "Avery, just call me by my name. I’m really happy that you agreed to have dinner with me today."
"..." Avery didn’t expect him to call her by her name so soon after only their second meeting. While it felt odd, the man had expressed friendliness. If she continued acting distant, she would seem pretentious. "I’m also happy, Kent."
It felt really awkward, but Avery forced herself to adapt to it.
Since she had promised her mother that she would take it seriously this time, she had to show her sincerity.
"You must be starving. Let’s eat something first, and then we can talk some more." Kent gently said, his eyes filled with tenderness as he looked at Avery.
"Alright." Avery didn’t refuse; she really was hungry.
The two quietly ate half of the newly served dishes in no time. Only after Avery’s stomach stopped growling did they both slow down their eating pace.
"Avery, do you know? Today is not our second meeting. The first time I saw you was a few years ago when my grandma was hospitalized. You probably don’t remember us, but my grandma and I have always remembered you." Kent put down his chopsticks and started reminiscing about the past, that unforgettable memory of a beautiful angel in white that deeply impacted him.
"?" Avery wasn’t interested in what he was saying at all. When she was a nurse, she’d deal with emergency situations as her duty required.
She thought any medical staff would do the same. So, she never thought that her ordinary actions could have such a significant influence on him. He remembered her all this time, which made her feel slightly embarrassed.
"It seems like you genuinely don’t remember. It’s alright. Anyway, you saved my grandma back then, and our whole family is grateful to you. As for me, from that moment on, I’ve been unable to forget about you. When I went back to the second hospital, you were already gone." Since then, he had been love-stricken and lost interest in dating. Pacing all his energy into work, he eventually got promoted to the manager position. He then recruited Avery’s cousin, Giselle Browman, and by chance, met Avery again.
