Chapter 382: Chapter 382: High-profile Etiquette (3)
Upon reaching the entrance of her unit, Avery Graham was busy rummaging for her keys in her bag with her head lowered. Some of the street lights in the residential area were broken, casting poor lighting around. She didn’t pay attention to the figure leaning against the wall next to her.
After seeing her, the person abruptly pulled her aside. In front of them was a large tree that conveniently concealed them from the sight of others.
"..." Avery’s eyes widened in surprise. Looking up and seeing Bernard Taylor, she suppressed her urge to scream and instead angrily questioned, "What are you doing?"
How on earth did this man get into the residential area? Even when Bernard followed her here last time, he stayed outside the entrance of the area. How would he know which unit she lived in and even stake out here? Was he out of his mind?
She didn’t scream because she knew Bernard wouldn’t hurt her like a villain. Her life wasn’t in danger.
"Are you really so eager to marry?" He had thought she was lying when she mentioned she was going to a blind date. But it seemed like she was telling the truth after all.
"...Aren’t you poking your nose a bit too much into my business? Dr. Taylor, I am not your nurse anymore," Avery responded, as she forcefully pulled her hand out of his grip. Her tone was icily distant.
"True, you are not my nurse anymore. But I met you first, so even if you’re going on a blind date, shouldn’t you follow the ’first come, first serve’ rule? Right?" Bernard let go of her hand. The next moment, he held her chin, gently forcing her head up. Then he leaned in, pressing his lips against hers.
At that moment, Avery was stunned. What on earth was Bernard doing?
Was he kissing her? But if he just presses his lips against hers without making any other movements, does it count as a kiss?
Avery Graham, who had seen enough kisses in movies, didn’t think this qualified as a kiss. However, it was her first time being intimate with a man in this lip-to-lip manner.
This contact lasted only five seconds before Bernard let her free. Looking at her dumbfounded expression, he didn’t mistake it as her being lost in his ’kissing technique’ - he hadn’t actually done anything.
Before Avery could recover from her shock, Bernard asked in a low voice, "So, how about going on a blind date with me this weekend?"
Avery was taken aback. For the first time, she realized that someone as handsome as him could also be so shamelessly forward.
"...Sorry, Dr. Taylor, you’re too late. Just a moment ago, I became someone else’s girlfriend. So, even if we were colleagues before, I am now a woman with a boyfriend, and I believe I have a fairly good character."
Avery took a step back, turning the hazardous distance between them into a safer one. As her dizzy head cleared and her consciousness returned, she became colder and more distant than before.
"..." Bernard just watched her, evaluating the truth in her words.
Avery was telling the truth, of course. Hence, when faced with Bernard’s scrutiny, she met it head-on.
As luck would have it, Kent Auclair arrived home and made a call to her. His home was not far from Avery’s place - only a ten-minute drive or less than half an hour’s walk. As soon as he entered his house, he called Avery.
"I’m home, what about you?" Kent asked gently. Now that they were officially a couple, he felt obliged to take on the responsibilities of a boyfriend, caring for his girlfriend and making sure she knew of his whereabouts.
While Henry Lawson was a girlfriend he had longed for over the years and finally had the chance to date.
"Mhm, I ran into a neighbor in the residential area, so I am chatting downstairs," Avery lied without hesitation. Her nonchalant manner while telling this lie wasn’t because she was worried Kent would misconstrue something; she’d never had inappropriate thoughts about Bernard.
