Chapter 317: Chapter 317: Little Girlfriend (6)
"..." Carolline didn’t speak, she knew that Emily Hill had been working hard cooking for the whole family. She felt guilty for complaining, so she placed the chicken leg, which Bryan Hawkins had given her, into Emily’s bowl, trying to please her. "Mom, that’s not what I meant. Okay, I understand now, I won’t be so inflexible anymore."
Carolline admitted her mistake willingly.
After dinner, Carolline wanted to help with the dishes, but Emily Hill chased her away. Before leaving, Carolline and her son Axel exchanged knowing glances. Axel nodded and then climbed into the back seat of his father’s car.
Ever since his father had lectured him about not sitting in the passenger seat, Axel had never sat there again. Bryan Hawkins even purchased a child safety seat with the best safety rating from abroad, specially for Axel to sit in the back.
Carolline left their house and went straight to the passenger seat. Bryan Hawkins reminded Axel to fasten his seat belt, and then they drove away.
"Axel, what were you and grandma up to earlier? You looked like you were sharing a secret." Carolline recalled their interaction and felt curious. She had a feeling that the two of them had a secret whenever she wasn’t home.
"There’s no secret! Grandma just told me to listen to you and dad," Axel lied intentionally because he remembered Emily Hill’s recent instruction not to reveal their plans for a younger sibling.
That plan was still just an idea.
"Really?" Carolline asked skeptically. She still didn’t believe him. The look on their faces clearly showed that they were plotting something.
Almost half an hour later, Bryan Hawkins parked his car in their parking lot. Only then did Axel remember that this week was the last week of the school term. They had a field trip planned for tomorrow, which was the final event of the term.
"Dad, I forgot about the field trip tomorrow. I haven’t prepared anything yet," Axel said loudly with a disappointed face. Today, he had played video games with his dad and almost completely forgot about this important event.
"Let’s go to the supermarket and buy some things now," Bryan Hawkins made a decisive decision and drove out of the parking lot. They had their reserved parking spot, so there were no issues.
Carolline was surprisingly lenient. She knew about the kindergarten activity, and even if Axel didn’t go shopping, Emily Hill would have prepared a bag of snacks for him tomorrow. Carolline knew that Axel just wanted to go to the supermarket, and she had some things to buy as well.
Once they arrived at the nearby supermarket, Axel headed straight for the Snack Zone. He strolled around the area twice but didn’t find anything appealing. Even Bryan Hawkins couldn’t help but frown, "Axel, what are you planning to buy? If you keep wandering around aimlessly, we’ll miss your bedtime."
Carolline initially didn’t bother with them. She went straight to the Daily Supplies Zone and bought a few packs of her monthly necessities, then rejoined Axel and Bryan Hawkins. Axel had a gloomy look on his face because he had promised Elena Duncan to buy her the cotton candy she loves the most.
However, after roaming around the supermarket, he couldn’t find Elena’s favorite cotton candy. At that moment, he regretted not paying attention to the brand of cotton candy that Elena usually ate.
"Excuse me, miss, do you have that red soft-centered cotton candy here? It should have a strawberry-flavored filling inside." Carolline could see the troubled look on Axel’s face and naturally knew what he was looking for. She, being a mother, knew the little secret in her son’s heart. She also liked Elena, the pretty little girl who was probably loved by everyone she met.
So she decided to help him inquire about the cotton candy with the lady at the supermarket.
