Caroline casually put her phone aside and continued to scrub the clothes.

For new clothes, just rubbing them gently was enough. Caroline quickly washed two basins of new clothes. Thankfully, she had bought several clothes hangers during a previous shopping trip, which she had even been scolded by Emily for. Today, she could finally put them to good use.

After hanging the clothes to dry, Caroline looked at her handiwork with some embarrassment. Their spacious balcony was completely filled with clothes, all belonging to Axel.

After taking a shower later, she wouldn’t have any space left to hang her own clothes.

At this moment, the main culprit called her. Seeing the unknown number, Caroline ignored the first incoming call as she typically didn’t answer calls from unsaved contacts.

Soon, the phone rang again. Initially planning to hang up, Caroline’s finger inexplicably changed direction and hit the green answer button instead.

"Caroline, it’s me. This is my new number; save it when you have the time." Bryan’s voice floated into Caroline’s ear. He knew she would save it without waiting for her reply. "I’m back home, in an apartment near the company."

"Well, you don’t have to tell me so many details. Just let me know that you’ve arrived safely," Caroline said awkwardly, and glancing at the full balcony, she found the person on the phone really irritating.

He could’ve just sent a text message instead of making a call.

"..." Bryan sighed internally, realizing that her patience for him was running thin. "When are you off this week? I have a week off, and I’d like to find a day for us to talk privately, is that okay?"

"My schedule is packed this week, and I probably won’t have any time. We can talk later. Besides, didn’t you say you’re not leaving?" Since Bryan wasn’t leaving, it meant they would have plenty of time to talk in the future. For now, Caroline didn’t want to talk about anything.

"Alright, let’s do as you say and talk later." Bryan compromised.

"Okay, bye." Caroline said and hung up, then turned off her phone.

In fact, she was off on Thursday. After finishing work on Wednesday and starting her shift on Friday night, she had more than enough time to rest from Wednesday noon until Friday night at 8:00 pm.

However, she simply didn’t want to meet with Bryan privately. Having her son around today wasn’t too bad, but she wasn’t refusing to meet one-on-one, she was just afraid.

Though she wasn’t sure what she was afraid of, it was probably the fear of facing Bryan and losing her composure when she was alone.

Before heading back to her room, Caroline checked on Axel and, as Henry had said, his sleeping posture was certainly not great. He had already kicked his blanket onto the floor, and he was wearing a tank top and underwear, sleeping soundly.

It seemed like she hadn’t told him a bedtime story today, but he fell asleep on his own. He must have been too excited, and got tired as soon as he lied down.

After readjusting Axel’s crooked position and covering him with a blanket, Caroline went back to her room, took a shower, and washed the clothes she had taken off. She hung them to dry in the bathroom before lying down in bed.

It had been a long time since she had done so much at night. In her memory, the last time was the year when Axel was still not potty trained, when she washed countless pee and poop-filled pants every night.
