Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Coming and Going (8)
But just as Joyce Lopez was reaching out her hand, Bryan Hawkins dodged it, "No need, I’m fine."
In the middle of the night, when Bryan Hawkins’ IV drip was finished, the nurse removed it and asked him to get some sleep. Hence, when he woke up in the morning, the IV bottle was no longer on his hand.
"By the way, thank you." Bryan Hawkins said his thanks to her anyway. After all, she did watch over him for the whole night, didn’t she?
"Brother Bryan, can you tell me why you had a fever? You’ve always been healthy, did something happen? Can you tell me?", Joyce Lopez eagerly expressed her concern for him.
However, what she didn’t know was that, from Bryan’s perspective, she was meddling too much. Even if she had watched over him for a night, it didn’t mean he had to report his whereabouts and private matters to her.
"Joyce Lopez, besides being the manager of my Hawkins Family’s Public Relations Department, you are also Grandpa Lopez’s beloved granddaughter in my eyes. Nothing more. I thank you for your hard work yesterday, but that won’t change anything between us, understand?"
Bryan Hawkins just looked at her, his reply firm and unwavering. He didn’t know what else he should say to her, but no matter how many times, his attitude towards her was the same.
She really didn’t need to waste her time on him - it’s unnecessary and wasteful.
After speaking, Bryan Hawkins got out of bed, put on his slippers, and went to the bathroom inside the room.
Joyce Lopez closed her eyes, she couldn’t understand why Bryan Hawkins always had to talk to her like this. Where did she go wrong? Or is he still hung up on Matilda Ferguson?
But that shouldn’t be the case, given the history between him and Matilda Ferguson, he surely couldn’t go back to her.
Moreover, Matilda Ferguson has gone mad, she’s been sent to a mental hospital, hasn’t she? She may never get out for the rest of her life, then who else could he possibly still be thinking about?
Could it really be Carolline Ruiz?
Carolline Ruiz has left, if he had any response to Carolline Ruiz, would she still have left?
Being a woman herself, she could see how much Carolline Ruiz liked him. He could see her feelings for him, wouldn’t he also be able to see Carolline’s feelings too? Hasn’t he responded to both of them in exactly the same way?
The only difference between her and Carolline Ruiz is that Carolline Ruiz is willing to give up when there’s no response. But she is unwilling to. She would not easily give up after all these years of waiting and liking him. If she could let it go, she would have given up when he had other women by his side.
When Bryan Hawkins came out, he saw Joyce Lopez’s distraught expression. Yet, he felt no compassion. It was best to make a clean break in such matters; continuing to drag it out was not for her best interest.
Indifferent, Bryan Hawkins walked past her. But Joyce Lopez suddenly spoke up, "Brother Bryan, you’ve always known I liked you, haven’t you? Despite my efforts to hide it, waiting for you to take the initiative. But you never showed any interest, do you really not like me at all?"
"I only see you as a sister. If you hadn’t said anything, I wouldn’t have taken the initiative to tell you to stop liking me." Bryan Hawkins told her straightforwardly. At the time, she didn’t say anything. What could he, as a man, say?
"..." Joyce Lopez scoffed. So that’s how it is. It turned out she was the only actor and audience in the play she had created herself, "Well, can you tell me who I lost to?"
She just wanted to know who exactly the woman in his heart is. She wanted to see where she exactly fell short.
Joyce Lopez had always been too presumptuous. She still doesn’t understand that love isn’t about who is more worthy of whom, but simply a matter of whether there is mutual love.
When there is mutual love, that’s when love emerges. It doesn’t have anything to do with the circumstances of either party. If there’s no love, then there’s no romance, only crushes, or unrequited love.
Such feelings offer no happiness.
Unless the person in unrequited love is open-hearted and can let go.
"..." Bryan Hawkins didn’t say anything. Who he liked was none of anyone’s business. The porridge Joyce Lopez left there, he didn’t even glance at it. He turned around and didn’t see any clothes he could change into, so he took out his phone to make a call.
Joyce Lopez saw this, dashed up to him, and snatched his phone away, "Just tell me who exactly is that woman. Is it that difficult? If you don’t tell me, I’ll assume there’s no one in your heart. In that case, Brother Bryan, I won’t give up."
"Whether you give up or not, that’s your business. Whether I accept or not, that’s my business." Bryan Hawkins took his phone back from her hand, "Joyce Lopez, don’t overstep your boundaries. Otherwise, we won’t even be able to maintain our current relationship, got it?"
"..." Joyce Lopez couldn’t utter a single word. She had only heard that Bryan Hawkins was quite ruthless towards women who threw themselves at him, but he had always been decent towards her. Thus, she had always thought she was special to him.
This was the first time she saw Bryan Hawkins be so indifferent to her. For a moment, Joyce Lopez was unable to accept it and ran out of the room crying.
When Xavier Estrada arrived, he was bumped into by Joyce Lopez. The bag he was carrying fell to the ground. It contained Bryan’s change of clothes.
Xavier Estrada was somewhat annoyed. He wanted to scold the other person, but Joyce Lopez ran away too quickly. He had no choice but to swallow his anger, pick up the clothes and walk into the ward.
Just as Bryan Hawkins was about to call Xavier Estrada, Xavier Estrada walked in with the bag, proving why he was the most reliable assistant. Without even getting a call from him, Xavier Estrada prepared everything.
Bryan Hawkins quickly changed into his clothes. Without waiting for Xavier Estrada to say anything else, he said, "Let’s go, back to the company first."
"Hawkins, won’t it be a problem for you to be discharged in this condition?" Xavier Estrada was quite worried. After all, his fever nearly reached forty degrees yesterday.
"I know my own body. I’ve already delayed for a day. Let’s go." Even though there was no progress with Carolline Ruiz, and he had even hit a wall instead, there were things he needed to get done quickly. He had to get rid of some ticking time bombs sooner rather than later.
