Chapter 193: Chapter 193: Coming and Going (7)
"Hmm, you must be tired, William Hawkins. Go back and rest, I’ll stay here." Joyce Lopez was pleased that it was just William Hawkins in the room. If the old lady was here, she might not even be able to get through the door.
"No need, I’ll leave when my brother wakes up." William Hawkins refused. This was a mission entrusted to him by his grandmother, and he had to stay until Bryan Cooper woke up.
"Don’t you trust me? Look at you, you haven’t changed your clothes all night, and they’re all wrinkled. Go change and take a shower, it won’t take long to go back and forth. When Granny Hawkins and the others arrive, you’ll definitely be back. If your brother wakes up, I’ll call you. Is that okay?" Joyce Lopez tried to persuade him.
"...Alright, then I’ll go change my clothes and take a shower. You watch him for me while I’m gone." William Hawkins was convinced. He did want to go back for a bit, but he hadn’t expected that it would be Joyce Lopez who would come to replace him.
Seeing that William Hawkins was willing to leave, Joyce Lopez finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She sat down, originally wanting to take advantage of this time to take a good look at the man in front of her, who made her heart flutter and filled her thoughts. But Bryan Cooper hadn’t given her a chance – as soon as William Hawkins left, he woke up.
Joyce Lopez hadn’t been seated for even half a minute before she saw Bryan Cooper open his eyes. Even though she couldn’t properly adore the handsome features of his sleeping face, the fact that they were now alone together still gave her a little thrill of excitement.
"...Why is it you?" Bryan Cooper looked at Joyce Lopez’s direction, and after a long silence, finally asked.
He recovered from the fever this morning, but during the fever, he had a lot of dreams, all related to Carolline Ruiz. He dreamed of holding her hand and walking into the public eye together, announcing to the world with joy that this was his wife.
However, the happy dream didn’t last long – suddenly, a tornado appeared in the sky, sweeping Carolline Ruiz up into the air. A mass of dark clouds rolled in, blocking everyone’s view. They searched for a long time but couldn’t find Carolline Ruiz, who had vanished before all their eyes.
Emily Hill was crying so hard that she was on the verge of passing out. Seeing him, she couldn’t help but curse him, saying he was the bane of Carolline Ruiz’s life. She had told him not to marry Carolline, but he wouldn’t listen. If Carolline had married Andy Aguirre or any other man, this would never have happened.
At that moment, he couldn’t describe his feelings. He felt sorry for Carolline and her parents, but he truly wanted to be with her and care for her for the rest of their lives. Yet, why couldn’t the heavens grant them their happiness?
In the end, he cried, and as he cried, he woke up. Then, he saw a woman and stared intently for a while before recognizing her. It wasn’t Carolline, and his heart was filled with an indescribable sense of loss.
He had gone there but hadn’t seen Carolline. He returned without confronting them when he saw her naturally held in Andy Aguirre’s arms. At that moment, he didn’t even have the courage to question them, even though he was Carolline’s legally wedded husband.
In that moment, he suddenly became like an ostrich, shamefacedly turning around and leaving.
Therefore, it was impossible for Carolline to know that he had gone there. Since she didn’t know, couldn’t reach him by phone, and was in that place, how could she possibly know that he had come down with a high fever?
At this moment, Bryan Cooper firmly believed that if Carolline knew about his condition, she would definitely come to see him.
"You had a fever last night, and I stayed with you all night. I had the servant make some porridge for you this morning." Joyce Lopez stood up, walked towards him, and naturally reached out to touch his forehead, wanting to make sure whether his fever had subsided.
