Carolline’s belly had already protruded two months ago. It was then that Andy found out Carolline was pregnant. When he first found out, he was shocked. He hadn’t expected that during his absence, Carolline would fall in love and bear their love’s fruit.

However, no matter how he tried to get information, Carolline refused to reveal the father’s identity.

A month ago, Emily, unable to hold back her longing for her daughter, rushed to see her after finishing her work and the start of summer vacation. She stayed with Carolline for over a month until the school term began again.

Upon seeing Carolline’s round belly, Emily nearly fainted with anger and slapped her twice. The Village Chief and his wife tried to stop Emily from hurting her further.

"Dear sister, don’t be so rough with her. Andy said he will take responsibility. When they return, they will get married and even send us festive candies in advance," said the Village Chief’s wife, mainly concerned for Carolline. The slaps had left marks, making her face an alarming sight.

"..." Emily was bewildered. As a mother, she had her doubts if the child Carolline was carrying was truly Andy’s.

Andy hurried back from the clinic, originally intending to accompany Carolline when he heard Emily was coming. But, there were too many patients, and Gavin Campbell couldn’t handle them alone, so he had to let Carolline go first.

Despite rushing back, he was still too late, and Carolline suffered.

While Emily appeared gentle and motherly, she could be quite assertive when disciplining Carolline. If Carolline made any grave mistakes, she would surely be punished harshly.

Carolline remained quiet, knowing Emily would undoubtedly punish her once she found out. For now, it was just two slaps.

When Andy discovered her pregnancy, she didn’t deny it. Andy fell silent for a long time before finally telling her that if anyone in Gratan Town asked, she should say he was the father.

At the time, Carolline didn’t understand. Andy explained that Gratan was a small village with simple folk and traditional values. They would look down upon an unwed pregnant woman.

Therefore, even though Carolline had put her heart and soul into helping the villagers for months, if word got out about her pregnancy, their view of her would change drastically.

They may even drive her out of the village.

Initially, Carolline didn’t believe him. She had been in the village for longer than Andy, and the villagers seemed to be kind and welcoming, unlike the barbaric villages she’d seen on TV. As a result, she thought Andy was overthinking.

Besides, she didn’t want to bring up her pregnancy to others.

As the weather got hotter, she wore loose dresses to hide her belly for a while longer.

Andy didn’t push her at the time, simply asking her to claim the child as his if the villagers found out about her situation.

Carolline didn’t pay much attention to it. In the following days, however, Andy took excellent care of her diet and nutrition. He often used the village’s van to drive her to nearby towns and even the city to buy seafood and nutritional supplements for her.

The special treatment was quickly noticed by the Village Chief’s wife. One day, seizing the opportunity when Andy and Gavin Campbell had not yet returned, the wife asked Carolline to help her shell beans.
