Chapter 192: Chapter 192: Coming and Going (6)
She didn’t want to compromise for anyone when it came to her precious grandson; she valued Carolline Ruiz because, as an onlooker, she noticed that her grandson treated Carolline differently.
"You’re right." The old Master Hawkins agreed with his wife’s words, and the couple held hands as they got into the car.
Sophia Lawson was astonished for a moment. She had not expected her father-in-law to convince her mother-in-law of anything, but at least she hoped that the old lady would not always target Joyce Lopez. Besides, Bryan Cooper hadn’t expressed any dislike for Joyce either.
Of course, Sophia liked Carolline too; however, her son had never said that he liked Carolline either. As a mother, she would not oppose anyone her son liked and would support them to the end.
So, as to whether the future daughter-in-law would be Carolline or Joyce, Sophia cared more about her son’s choice. However, she felt that her mother-in-law’s bias towards Carolline was somewhat unfair.
She felt sorry for her son.
Sophia Lawson went with Austin Hawkins in another car, separate from her in-laws. It was only then that she had the chance to complain to Austin Hawkins.
"Just let it go, Mom’s old now; let her work herself up over her choices," said Austin Hawkins.
"Why should she get to do what she wants? It’s about Bryan’s happiness! Whoever Bryan likes is who he should choose. But with mom like this, doesn’t it mean that Bryan can only choose Carolline Ruiz?" Sophia was slightly dissatisfied.
Her husband was good in many ways and very obedient to her, but when it came to some issues, especially those between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, his compromising attitude angered her.
"Did our Bryan object to it? Who knows our eldest son better than anyone else in this family?" Austin Hawkins did not get annoyed, but instead smiled and comforted his wife, knowing that she was also worried about their son.
"..." For a moment, Sophia had nothing to say. When she gave birth to Bryan Hawkins, she was very weak. To spare her, her mother-in-law kept the child by her side and raised him herself. Honestly, as the birth mother, Sophia hadn’t played much of a role in Bryan’s upbringing, which is why she had hardly interfered with his choices throughout his life.
As Bryan grew up, he became exceptionally close to his grandmother, while William Hawkins and Camelia Hawkins, whom Sophia had raised herself, were much closer to her.
She felt regret and guilt for not being closer to her eldest son.
"Alright, don’t worry any further. No one will force Bryan to make a choice he doesn’t want to make. Mom won’t, and neither will we, right? You don’t have to feel guilty," Austin Hawkins told his wife when she remained silent, certain that she was thinking unhappy thoughts. He held his wife’s hand, gently rubbing it.
"I know." Sophia responded, secretly vowing to spend less time with Joyce Lopez in the future.
After all, the Lawsons and Hawkins families had a long-standing friendship. If the two children were really meant to be together, they probably would have been by now, regardless of whether William Hawkins and Camelia Hawkins were involved.
Moreover, she genuinely liked Carolline and was grateful for her help. If not for Carolline, her Bryan might have been ruined, and as his mother, she had been powerless to help him back then.
Joyce Lopez went straight home, but the next morning, she woke up early. Before dawn, she called the servants to cook her porridge. Once it was ready, she took it to the hospital.
When Joyce arrived at the hospital, William Hawkins hadn’t woken up yet. Hearing the noise, he opened his eyes to see Joyce standing there. "Joyce, why are you here so early?"
