Chapter 1055: 026 Newlyweds, aunt breaks the appointment
The following month flew by swiftly.
The couple was busy taking wedding photos, moving houses, sending out invitations, purchasing essentials for their new marriage, and even reopening a store. Over the month, Avery Graham was as busy as a top, her life was fulfilling but her body weary.
This must be what people mean by "painfully happy."
Eventually, they set their wedding date for a lucky day at the end of May. The day before, the couple went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get their Marriage Certificate. Landon Estrada and Yvonne Thompson personally took care of them. They were allowed to use a special channel and enjoyed privileges throughout, swiftly receiving their red Marriage Certificate.
"I apologize for the system crash last time that left you without a certificate for a month, that was our fault. At the wedding, I, Landon Estrada, will personally drink three toasts as penance. Mrs. Taylor might be expecting, right? Sorry, little one, your uncle almost made you a bastard," Landon Estrada rambled on, clearly not adept at reading the room, and said whatever came to mind, cheerfully oblivious to Bernard Taylor and Avery Graham’s displeased expressions.
"No need for self-punishment, but feel free to triple the money," Bernard said coldly.
As for whether Avery was carrying a little one, she had been too busy to even remember that possibility. However, Bernard was well aware that if Avery didn’t get her period that night, it might really mean there was a baby on the way.
"..." Avery didn’t say a word, knowing Bernard would retort for her.
At that, Landon’s face immediately soured, "Mr. Taylor, Big Brother, you both are big bosses, a little extra in the money envelope won’t hurt. I only earn a government salary, and it’s barely enough, asking me for triple is cutting into half a year’s savings for me. I’ve got elderly parents, kids, and a beautiful wife to support, so..."
"Enough, make it up, or we’ll ask you for even more," Yvonne Thompson nudged Landon, while Bernard observed with a cold smirk, completely indifferent to Landon’s pleas of poverty.
"..." Landon made a face, regretting showing up in person.
Bernard handed out their invitations to the couple, "Come early tomorrow."
"Sure, sure," Landon accepted with both hands.
Bernard then took Avery by the hand, and they both headed back to their shop first, placing their Marriage Certificate in front of Charles Barkley to freely take pictures and post on Moments.
Meanwhile, Bernard announced good news: all staff would have the next day off to attend their wedding. Though their wedding would undoubtedly be less grand and solemn than Carolline Ruiz and Celia Wade’s due to time constraints, making it lively was necessary.
The staff cheered. A boss who gave all employees the day off for his wedding was indeed rare.
Seeing how happy they were, Avery didn’t say much. Though she hadn’t planned to close the Cake Shop the next day, Bernard had spoken, and everyone was so thrilled; naturally, she was ready to follow his lead.
"Everyone come early tomorrow then, we’re heading back now," Bernard took the Marriage Certificate from Charles’s hands, ready to leave.
"Oh, Charles, make sure to prepare extra desserts for tomorrow,’’ Avery reminded him as they were leaving. She considered her cake shop quite good and her wedding an excellent opportunity for publicity, which Avery wasn’t about to pass up.
There would be many guests, though Nancy Sallow had suggested cutting back on some formalities. But that day, as she filled out the invitations, even after dismissing some, she still ended up with a stack of written invitations, shaking her head regretfully.
She figured that with many friends of Nancy Sallow and Jacob Taylor coming, there would be plenty of sweet tooths, not to mention her shop also offered sugar-free bread for diabetic patients, catering to various consumer groups.
Especially since there would be many kids that day, mainly because Axel had called in advance asking Aunt Avery to prepare cakes and bread. He loved Aunt Avery’s cakes the most.
No matter whether these were just flattering words, hearing them made Avery feel good; thus she thought, her little handsome man Axel was indeed the cutest.
