Chapter 1054: 025 In-laws meet to set the wedding date_7
"Let’s hurry up and leave." Charles Barkley brought out a fresh cake, having overheard the argument, and firmly siding with Avery. Jollie Auclair was already blacklisted in their shop, "otherwise, we might have to chase her away with a broom."
Even if Bernard Taylor did not issue that command, they wouldn’t do business with that woman.
"..." Jollie Auclair did not speak, just coldly stared at the silent Avery Graham, "How foolish. We have our own money, why would we be afraid of not being able to buy something tastier?"
The group then gave up and left.
Avery watched them leave, knowing they were standing up for her. Business isn’t done this way, but Bernard Taylor was also the boss. She could perhaps say this to the staff, but Bernard being so proud, it was likely he wouldn’t listen.
Additionally, she genuinely disliked Jollie Auclair and could not understand why she looked down on her so much.
As the two left the shop, Michael Auclair hurried over. The Auclair siblings really were peculiar; his sister had just left, and now the brother showed up.
Michael Auclair came not to see Avery but to seek Bernard Taylor. After visiting the Taylor Group and learning Bernard was not there, he headed straight to Avery’s Cake Shop.
Sure enough, Bernard was there.
"I’ll go deal with him; you go wait in the car for me." Avery felt she had made herself clear to Michael Auclair the day before, yet here he was again today, leaving her wondering what the Auclair siblings were really up to.
"No need, you go to the car and wait for me. Here are the keys. If I’m not mistaken, he’s here to find me today," Bernard said with a smile, as though he had anticipated this.
Michael had encountered problems with a project Bernard had previously given him because he had been penny-pinching.
He had indeed said in the project’s terms that one could earn a minimum of a million dollars; however, if Michael had indeed been driven by greed to improper practices, then not only would he not make a million, but he would likely end up with severe losses.
Now, with Michael coming over furiously, it was clear that Bernard had calculated it all precisely. Michael Auclair’s character was indeed problematic.
"..." Avery didn’t quite understand, but ultimately she listened to Bernard and went to wait in the car.
Seeing Avery turn and walk away, Michael, who had come to settle accounts with Bernard, did not think of speaking to Avery.
"Let’s talk somewhere else." Bernard glanced around and headed to the small garden across the street.
Michael followed, furious, and once they were alone, he roared, "Bernard Taylor, you are a despicable man. You talk about giving me a project, and what kind of lousy project is this? I haven’t made a dime yet, but I’m facing a loss of a million!"
Though he did indeed have a million, it was the result of many years of hard work. Not being from the Rich Second Generation, the thought of paying out a million caused him unbearable pain.
However, if he didn’t pay, the other party would sue him, and once the lawsuit commenced, his company would discover that he had been taking private commissions. That would truly be more loss than gain.
He had thought Bernard was kindly allowing him to make money. Bernard’s non-involvement in the project seemed to be a favor. But now, hearing Bernard’s words, it was clear that he was very familiar with the project’s progress, including everything Michael had done.
"You have issues with your character, but you don’t even realize? If so, Michael Auclair, I genuinely feel sad for you," Bernard mused with a light chuckle.
Initially, the project he presented to Michael was indeed a choice; had he chosen correctly, he could indeed have made money. If he chose poorly, not only would he not make any money, he would lose money.
Initially, when Bernard and Adelle Turner dealt with Avery, they did not resort to extreme measures to seek justice for her, but rather chose a more roundabout way. This was quite merciful for Michael.
"..." Michael was stunned for a while before realizing that nothing could be hidden from Bernard. He was now convinced that Bernard had set a trap for him, "Bernard, you set me up. I’m telling you, if I can’t have good days, neither will you."
"Is that so? I’ll be waiting," Bernard replied, uninterested in engaging with this madman.
He was curious to see how Michael intended to make things difficult for him.
"As for you, I’m only warning you once—don’t try to get close to Avery again. Otherwise, your days will be much worse than now. I advise you to sort out your matters quickly before things get worse."
After speaking, Bernard went to find Avery.
Seeing him talking with Michael for so long, Avery asked about the matter, and Bernard smiled, glossing over it. Some things, she did not need to know too much about.
Seeing Bernard not telling her the truth, Avery did not press further. Not everything needed her attention.
