Chapter 1045: 024 Unlicensed Driving_5
"..." Avery Graham pursed her lips. She suspected this was an attempt to extort Bernard Taylor – that’s typical of women, she thought. Though not yet married, once a woman’s heart is set, she naturally tends to side with her partner. "We went to register our marriage yesterday, but the Civil Affairs Bureau’s system crashed. Whether you were there to get married or divorced, nobody could do anything."
"What? The Civil Affairs Bureau’s system crashed? You guys really ran into something so bizarre?" Carolline Ruiz could hardly contain her laughter. She didn’t know whether to say they were incredibly lucky or just plain lucky. Maybe just lucky?
Such a rare event, and Bernard Taylor experienced it. He probably felt like throwing up.
"Yeah, and I heard there aren’t any auspicious days for the next month. Only yesterday was an auspicious day." Avery added, meaning that, even if they wanted to register their marriage, it would now be postponed for a month.
Nancy Sallow must care about this stuff too, her mother was someone who also paid attention to auspicious days. So, if Bernard insisted that they live together before marriage, that meant they would be ’driving without a license’ for a month.
"So, you’re ’driving without a license’ now?" With hickeys all over and so deep, it looked like whatever could happen had already happened.
"...Sort of." Avery admitted reluctantly. They had planned on getting their marriage certificate, for goodness’ sake. It wasn’t their fault that fate intervened, preventing them from registering.
"Hmm, driving without a license, pregnancy before marriage, how nice," Carolline said with a smile and then stood up; it was time to go downstairs for a meal.
"Who said I’m definitely going to be pregnant before marriage? I’m going to buy medicine later, buy some condoms. I’m not going to get pregnant before marriage," Avery snapped, as if she was arguing with someone, stormed forward, opened the door and saw a confused-looking servant standing outside, somewhat embarrassed.
Avery was even more embarrassed. She knew she had been shouting a bit loudly; the servant must have heard her.
Well, they heard, so what? They didn’t know each other anyway. If it came down to it, she just wouldn’t visit Carolline’s place in the future.
"Madam, it’s time for dinner," the servant said, avoiding Avery’s gaze and speaking to Carolline.
"Okay, we’ll be right there. Just set up an extra pair of chopsticks. No need to cook separately; we’ll share the Maternity Meal." As long as Bryan Hawkins wasn’t home, Carolline was sure to leave some of her Maternity Meal uneaten. With Bryan around, he always found ways to make her eat quite a lot of it.
"Alright." The servant couldn’t help but give Avery a few extra glances. Was this Miss Graham pregnant too? But she had just said she was going to buy medicine – was she considering an abortion?
But such matters were not something for a servant to be concerned with. Seeing Avery glare at her with resentful eyes, she quickly sped up her steps and headed downstairs.
"I can’t face coming to your house ever again. This is so embarrassing," Avery lamented with a mournful tone.
"Ah, they’ll probably forget about it in a bit. Don’t take it to heart, let’s go," Carolline shook her head and slowly walked downstairs. Even though the floor was carpeted, Bryan had instructed Carolline to walk very carefully, not allowing her to move too quickly.
Gradually, Carolline became accustomed to walking slowly.
That’s why the servants always came up early to call Carolline for meals.
Carolline might be used to it, but someone else definitely wasn’t. Avery exclaimed in shock, "No way, you’re only how many months pregnant and you’re walking slower than a woman who’s about to give birth. Are you kidding me?"
"This is called ’better safe than sorry.’ Do you understand? When you’re pregnant, I bet Bernard won’t be much different," Carolline replied, not explaining how worried her husband was about her being at home alone and possibly falling. When he was home, he would accompany her everywhere she went, even to the restroom.
"Bernard wouldn’t. Please, he is a doctor; I am a nurse. It’s normal for women to be pregnant. Really, do they need to be coddled like pandas? Think about our mothers’ generation – when they were pregnant with us, some even had to work in the fields," Avery felt that some pregnant women these days were just too affected.
Some, due to special health conditions, weren’t an issue, but others were perfectly healthy and still acted like they couldn’t lift a finger, talking about ’ten months of being a princess, one day of being a queen.’
Ah, she didn’t even know what to say anymore.
"..." Carolline didn’t say anything more, mainly because Bryan had too many informants. If she didn’t do as Bryan instructed and someone reported back to him, he would definitely come home and lecture her that evening.
