Chapter 1030: 022 I want your commitment_4

"?" Avery Graham was somewhat depressed, "Just to make it clear, I haven’t prepared anything for you here, there’s a supermarket downstairs, and if you really decide to stay, you can go down and buy some essentials yourself. I have towels here, but for everything else, it’s up to you what you need to buy. I’m going to take a shower first; the keys are by the shoe cabinet. Take them with you when you go out."

Avery was implicitly agreeing to let him stay overnight. After all, her place had a study room, and there was a Military Folding Bed in it. If Bernard Taylor really decided to stay, he could make do with spending the night there. Since he didn’t mind, she didn’t feel the need to fuss over him too much.

Besides, as for the birth certificate, she could give it to him. Once they got the Marriage Certificate, they could just go to the Family Planning Office to get the birth certificate on top of that.

This was, in a way, keeping a promise.

"Okay," Bernard Taylor nodded his head gleefully in agreement.

After Avery went into her room to take a shower, Bernard Taylor called Nancy Sallow to tell her not to wait up for him, as he wouldn’t be returning that evening. Upon receiving the call, Nancy Sallow was elated and started babbling non-stop by herself, which made Jacob Taylor think she had lost her mind.

After hanging up, Bernard Taylor took the keys and headed to the supermarket downstairs. He bought a box of underwear, a pair of couple’s toothbrushes, mouthwash cups, slippers, pajamas—in short, whatever he could think of; he bought some of each. Even though the quality of these items at the supermarket didn’t really meet his standard, he’d just make do with them for now and gradually replace them later.

By the time Bernard Taylor came back with his purchases, Avery had finished her shower. Her head was wrapped in a towel and she wore modest pajamas with pants as she was spreading the bed in the study room for Bernard.

"You’ll have to make do with sleeping in the study room tonight. The Military Folding Bed is a bit hard, so I put a cotton pad on it which should make it a bit softer. You should go to sleep early," Avery instructed, as she had yet to blow-dry her hair.

"..." Bernard Taylor did not make any additional requests; he simply took a quick shower in the outside bathroom, changed his clothes, and obediently entered the study room to lie down on the bed.

He actually just wanted to make his way into her inner sanctum. As for everything else, even though he wanted it, it didn’t necessarily have to happen tonight. The fact that he could stay was already very good.

As far as he knew, Michael Auclair never had the chance to stay here overnight. The fact that Avery allowed him to do so was a big step forward.

All the tensions that had been stretched tight throughout the day were finally easing. Bernard Taylor lay down and soon fell asleep.

On the other hand, in the room, after Avery blow-dried her hair, she leaned against the door to listen for any noise from Bernard. Hearing none, she made sure several times that her room door was locked before going back to bed to play some games. After a while, she fell into a drowsy sleep, regretting her decision and feeling rather ashamed for so readily agreeing to Bernard’s request to stay the night.

After much internal debate, Avery finally drifted off to sleep, reconciled with the situation.

The next morning, Avery Graham woke up early while both Bernard Taylor and Giselle Browman were still asleep. She cooked some porridge and went downstairs to buy steamed buns, soy milk, fried dough sticks, pancakes, and other snacks.

By the time she came back, both Giselle Browman and Bernard Taylor were already up and chatted animatedly at the breakfast table.

"Sis, you’re back? I knew you went to buy breakfast. Is it the fried dough sticks and soy milk from Wang’s place? I love their soy milk," Giselle Browman said with a smile. She only served two bowls of porridge, as her favorite breakfast was soy milk with fried dough sticks, and she seldom ate porridge.

"Yeah," Avery said helplessly, thinking that Giselle would ask why Bernard had stayed over, but this girl appeared to be more accepting than Avery had anticipated.

On her way back, she’d been pondering whether to ask Bernard to leave after breakfast or, if Giselle saw him, how to explain the situation.

Turns out, the young lady hadn’t asked a single question, and Avery had been fretting over nothing.

"Thanks, sis. You treat me the best. You have no idea what a jerk Alvin Morris is. Knowing full well that people were urging me to drink, he didn’t even try to block it for me. Bernard, I am seriously considering switching departments or at least teams. I can’t be on the same team as that jerk Alvin Morris. Only now have I realized how vindictive he is," Giselle Browman ranted as she ate, brewing her anger against that detestable man, that old guy who, under the guise of being her superior, tormented her. Just wait and see, her sister was about to marry Bernard soon, and once they were married, she would become Bernard’s sister-in-law, and then she’d make that bastard Alvin Morris pay dearly.
