Chapter 1028: 022 I want your commitment_2
"Um, thanks for that, Mr. Morris," Avery Graham politely replied.
This girl, she works way too hard.
Bernard Taylor approached, "Alvin Morris, right? Don’t worry, Giselle is in good hands with him. I know what kind of person Alvin Morris is."
"Speaking of which, you guys are friends?" Avery turned to ask, then she went to the fridge to get some coffee beans.
These were top-notch coffee beans her chef had brought back from abroad.
"Yes, we’ve known each other for a while. Let me tell you a little secret, Alvin Morris likes Giselle. Like you, she’s kind of oblivious. You really are like sisters," Bernard wasn’t usually one to gossip, but seeing how gloomy Alvin Morris had been getting lately, and how he complained that Giselle Browman was so clueless, made him think of himself.
Giselle Browman and Avery really seemed like sisters, both quite oblivious, perhaps too oblivious.
"What?" Avery hadn’t expected that. Giselle seemed to attract quite a bit of attention at the company. "How old is he? He sounds younger than you, right?"
"..." Bernard suddenly felt insulted. How could she think he was old? He wasn’t even 35 yet.
Was she implying something? Why did he feel like this was some sort of hint?
Avery had just asked casually, she hadn’t meant it the way Bernard thought. The coffee beans she put in quickly turned to powder.
Avery was someone who truly enjoyed life, so she had set up a coffee-making station at home, even her cups were not ordinary ones.
After pouring out the coffee powder, Avery started brewing it. Suddenly, Bernard enveloped her from behind, circling her waist. Avery stiffened, what did he want to do now?
"You just said I’m old, didn’t you? Want me to prove right now that I’m not old?" Bernard’s breath on Avery’s neck made her shiver.
"When did I say that? Let go of me," Avery said, her back to Bernard, wiggling her body. But that only escalated things.
She wasn’t sure what she touched, but the next second, Bernard turned primal, spun her around and pinned her against the fridge. His kiss fell passionately.
It wasn’t tender or lingering, but aggressive, probing deeply, feeling almost like a direct charge to her core.
They had kissed before, sometimes tender, sometimes passionate, and sometimes fiery, like now. But today, Bernard was different from any other time.
Avery felt her tongue numb quickly, Bernard’s heat almost seemed to want to consume her whole.
Avery reached out to push him away slightly—he was too eager, and she had this unsettling feeling that she had forgotten something important; moreover, this wasn’t the time for him to lose his mind this way.
But as soon as Avery’s hand touched Bernard’s skin, the scorching heat made her retract her hand. Then, Bernard pinned her unruly hand behind her back and kissed her for a while longer before finally letting her go a bit.
However, Bernard didn’t back away and both were left breathless, somewhat dizzy, "Avery, I need a promise from you."
"What?" What promise? She really didn’t remember promising him anything.
"You said, once I’ve successfully won over your parents, you’d give me the birth certificate, too." Bernard looked at her, his voice raspy as he reminded her of her earlier words.
He had come tonight, shamelessly hoping to stay over, all for that birth certificate.
He had married later than others, just like Avery had said. He was indeed older and felt quite anxious. Anyway, given their situation now, he was determined to marry Avery, meaning the Marriage Certificate and the birth certificate could indeed be processed together—a double blessing.
"..." Avery was stunned. She had just said that offhandedly, and he had taken it seriously?
But before Avery could think more about it, a strange smell invaded her nostrils. She tried to push Bernard away, but he wouldn’t budge, still waiting for her response. And tonight, he had no intention of controlling himself.
