Chapter 1027: 022 I want your commitment
Avery Graham frowned, while Bernard Taylor raised his eyebrows, implying that although he hadn’t heard everything, he had heard quite a bit, and all that he wanted to hear.
He had been quite nervous before, but once he entered the house, his nerves eased. He could feel that Avery’s Auntie and Uncle were quite pleased with him, and having just heard Avery’s mom affirming him, he naturally became completely at ease.
"It’s time to go, get ready." Avery pouted, heard what she heard, anyway she had never been thin-skinned.
"Oh." Bernard obediently responded behind her, like a dutiful little wife.
Avery turned around and glared at him. She ended up not saying much. Avery’s dad came out of the restroom, saw Avery grabbing her bag, and looked out the window to see it was getting late, "Avery, Bernard drank, you take him home first."
"...Okay, Dad, then we’ll head out first." She’s a girl, don’t her parents worry about her going back alone late and encountering danger?
Bernard had only had some wine, and wasn’t drunk to the point of stumbling. Why couldn’t he go back on his own?
"Okay, let’s go, and call us when you get home," Avery’s dad waved nonchalantly as if already accustomed to the idea that his daughter would soon be married off and no longer living at home.
Bernard smiled and said goodbye to Avery’s dad. Avery’s mom came out of the kitchen to see them to the elevator, and after Bernard had bade goodbye to Avery’s mom, he followed Avery into the elevator.
As soon as the elevator doors closed, Bernard leaned against the back wall and took Avery’s hand, "This feels great, we passed the test smoothly."
"..." Avery pursed her lips and remained silent. Actually, she wanted to say he passed too easily, but she didn’t want to boost his ego, "So you passed, what’s there to brag about?"
"I’m not bragging." Bernard straightened up quickly, earnestly explaining himself.
"..." Avery laughed, she was just joking. What was he being so serious for?
Bernard also laughed. The elevator soon reached the ground floor. The doors opened, and hand in hand, they walked out. Some old ladies were also there watching them. Avery greeted them openly, saying goodbye.
Bernard smiled friendly at them too. As Avery and Bernard walked away, their affair once again became the hottest topic of gossip in the residential area.
Avery thought about it and didn’t mind. After all, even the most popular gossip was just others’ envy, jealousy, and hate for their family.
Avery thought Bernard had arranged for a driver, but looking around, she didn’t see any, "Are you planning on us hailing a cab?"
Avery wasn’t exactly aiming to ride in a stretched luxury sedan, but at this moment, was Bernard really okay without a driver and truly having her take him home?
"Yeah, let’s take a cab." Bernard nodded.
Avery didn’t say anything. Her car was parked in the parking lot of her residential area. Though not far from her parents’ place, it would take twenty minutes to drive. Walking there would take at least an hour.
Bernard hailed a cab and, after getting in, he gave the driver Avery’s address. Avery turned her head, "Actually, we could have dropped you first."
Bernard just smiled silently.
Eighteen minutes later, Avery’s residential area arrived. Avery opened the door to get out, Bernard paid and followed her out, Avery looked at him, "Why did you get out too? It might be hard to catch a cab later."
"Yeah, I came to make a promise," Bernard nodded, already knowing he wouldn’t come down later to catch another cab.
"...What promise?" Avery frowned, Bernard’s way of speaking really was becoming more esoteric.
"First, invite me for a cup of coffee." Bernard walked ahead.
Avery watched him and it took her a while to catch up.
Once upstairs, Avery opened the door. By that time, Giselle Browman hadn’t returned yet, so she couldn’t help but call Giselle. Initially, she wanted to ask Bernard, but she knew Bernard, although a group executive, wasn’t Giselle’s direct superior and naturally wouldn’t know Giselle’s whereabouts.
"Giselle, when are you coming back?" As the phone connected, there was noise from Giselle’s end.
"I’m not Giselle Browman, I’m her superior, Alvin Morris. Miss Avery, right? Giselle got drunk; I will bring her back soon. Sorry, I had to ask her to join me for an urgent business outing, and our counterparts were very persuasive with their toasts," Alvin Morris spoke respectfully, his relationship with Bernard being decent enough that he was aware of the relationship between Avery and Bernard.
