Chapter 1012: 019 She is Violet Orson_7
"Eat up, that’s someone else’s business," Bernard Taylor said as he served her a bowl of soup. Everyone has their own story, everyone has their own emotions, and they’re just ordinary people who can’t take care of everyone.
"Mhm," Avery nodded.
After dinner, Bernard drove Avery home, and Avery went to sleep after she got home.
She slept comfortably all afternoon, and when she woke up, it was already evening.
She saw a message from Bernard telling her to call him when she woke up. She checked the time, and it was already 6:30 PM, so she called Bernard. He answered after just one ring, "Awake now? What are planning to eat tonight?"
"Hmm, I’m thinking of just making some noodles at home." Avery didn’t want to go out or change her clothes, lazily responding.
"Well, there are eggs in the fridge, some meat, and some vegetables. Make yourself a hearty bowl," Bernard suggested, recounting how after he had dropped her off and she was sleeping in her room, he had taken her keys, run to the supermarket, and bought a lot of stuff including staples and snacks.
Later, he sat in her living room for a while, but it was almost 5 PM and Avery hadn’t woken up yet. He left after receiving a call from Nelson Castillo and his group.
That was when he sent her this message.
"You went to the supermarket?" Avery knew her refrigerator had been empty.
"Yeah, I bought you some stuff. You need to take better care of yourself," Bernard reminded her. At that moment, Nelson urged him, "Boss Bernard, who are you talking to? Come on, the guys are all waiting for you."
"You’re with Dr. Castillo and the others?" Avery recognized Nelson’s voice.
"Yeah, someone in the department is having a birthday, Nelson called me to stop by, so I came," Bernard explained.
"Oh, then you better stay with them, but try not to drink too much," Avery reminded him, knowing he had a sensitive stomach.
As soon as she said it, she realized she was speaking to him like a girlfriend.
Well, girlfriend it is then. Now, even if she wanted to explain, she doubted anyone would believe her explanation; they would definitely assume she was Bernard’s girl.
"...Okay, I got it." Bernard was momentarily speechless from the sudden happiness, then he agreed and hung up to rejoin Nelson.
With Avery’s admonition, Bernard hardly drank, no matter how much they persuaded him. Nelson found it boring and went to drink with others.
After hanging up the phone, Avery went to the kitchen to find some water. She noticed in the corner of the living room, a big bag of snacks. Bernard was really treating her like a kid.
Avery took an egg, a tomato, some greens, and didn’t take any meat, planning to make Tomato and Egg Noodles. Just as she was about to boil water, Giselle Browman came in, famished and parched.
"Sis, is there anything to eat? I’m starved, exhausted, thirsty today, ran into a horrible superior—you tell me, why am I so unlucky?" Working during the Tomb Sweeping Festival was one thing, accompanying the superior everywhere was another, but in the end, she even had to act as a free chauffeur for his blind date. After a tiring half-day, she didn’t get anything to eat or drink, truly she had never met such a shameless, immoral superior.
She assured herself she’d never listen to him again; otherwise, she might as well write her name, Giselle Browman, backward.
Listening to Giselle’s endless complaints, Avery couldn’t help but laugh, having never seen Giselle so full of grievances, "If you find it too tiring, just quit. My shop is being renovated anyway. Once it’s ready, come work for me as the shop manager."
"No way, sis, you know I’m not cut out for being a manager. Plus, I prefer being a white-collar worker. The pay is good, it’s respectable, it involves high technology, and I get the standard national holidays. How great is that? Working for you, I’d only get six days off a month. Over there, not counting the major holidays, I still get eight days off," Giselle calculated precisely as she eagerly scanned around, spotting the big bag of snacks in the corner and diving on it, "Sis, you’re the best, knowing to stock up on snacks here. I’ll have some to fill my stomach first. Make sure to cook my portion too."
"Mhm, got it, go ahead and eat," Avery nodded, then took out another tomato and some more greens from the fridge, adding two more eggs.
Giselle crunched away in the living room continuously; having had something to eat and drink, she slowly regained a bit of her strength. Twenty minutes later, Avery served two bowls of colorful Tomato and Egg Noodles, and Giselle happily rushed over, not caring, picked some up, and blew on them twice before stuffing them into her mouth.
She really was starving, having missed lunch. Was it any wonder she was both hungry and thirsty?
"Eat slowly," Avery disapproved shaking her head, wondering what Giselle had been up to all day.
"Mmm," Giselle muttered noncommittally, concentrating on her noodles.
Avery let her be, taking a few bites herself; the food was hot. She had barely finished half a bowl when Giselle had already gobbled up everything, leaving neither noodles nor soup.
Then Giselle just sat staring at Avery, who looked up in surprise, "Want more?"
Giselle burped and shook her head at the same time, "I’m stuffed to death, definitely no more. Sis, did you have something you wanted to tell me earlier?"
"Nothing much, just wondered if you want to come home with me for dinner tomorrow. I need to go home and announce something," Avery thought since she had decided to be with Bernard, she should at least inform her parents. Besides, Bernard also wanted to meet her parents.
She had been to the Taylor’s home already. Maybe it was time to bring Bernard to her place and introduce him to her parents.
