Chapter 96: Murder!
Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Murder!
Hope’s condition had finally stabilized, so for the convenience of her family’s care and visits, she was transferred out of the ICU the next day.
Amelia planned to visit early in the morning and then return to the studio to handle some matters.
However, when she arrived, Hope had not yet woken up.
The young girl had undergone major lung surgery and still could not breathe on her own, so she was connected to numerous tubes.
The sunlight was perfect, as the bright rays gently streamed through the window, casting light on the bedside. It highlighted the girl’s already pale face, making it look even more radiant and transparent, yet even more devoid of color.
Amelia sat down next to her and gazed quietly at her daughter.
Tears unknowingly slid down her face, her heart overflowing with guilt and pain. She wished she could turn back time, for no amount of hardship would have led her to abandon her daughter back then.
Regrettably, there is no cure for regret.
Her phone rang—it was Shaw reminding her of an important client in the morning.
She had no choice but to compose herself, kiss her daughter gently on the forehead, and leave.
In the elevator, she hesitated about whether to ask Christopher.
Why hadn’t he come to the hospital yet?
It would be so pitiful if Hope woke up and neither mom nor dad was there.
But as she took out her phone, after several hesitations, she decided against it.
Aunt Harper and the medical staff were there; there should be no problems.
It was better to minimize contact with him whenever possible.
Upon reaching the parking lot, she had just driven out of her spot when she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure walking in the diagonal direction.
On closer inspection, it turned out to be Lily Garcia.
What was she doing at the hospital? Was she also visiting Hope?
She slowly stopped the car, but as the car behind honked, she had to drive off.
Unaware, Lily walked out of the parking lot and headed straight to the VIP ward.
Christopher had been busy working overnight and was not at the hospital. Lily had picked the perfect time to visit her stepdaughter.
Upon seeing her, Aunt Harper politely smiled, "Miss Lily, you’re here early."
"Yes, Christopher has been very busy these last few days. He asked me to spend more time with Hope when I can."
Lily gently smiled back and walked toward the bed, her face filled with concern and affection.
"Oh, so many tubes! How tormenting! Why didn’t she stay in the ICU for a few more days?"
Aunt Harper explained, "The doctor checked her and determined her condition was stable. We thought that being out of the ICU with family around might help Miss Hope wake up sooner."
"Oh, I see."
Lily nodded, sat by the bedside, and after a while, suddenly started to sob.
Aunt Harper, puzzled, asked, "What’s wrong, Miss Lily?"
"It’s nothing... I just feel the child is suffering too much, and with my own health being like this, I don’t even know if I could have children after marriage... Christopher has such a big estate, yet there is no proper heir..."
Hearing this, Aunt Harper sighed as well.
"Miss Lily truly has deep feelings for her husband."
"What use is it? If Hope doesn’t accept me, Christopher will never truly be good to me."
Aunt Harper did not know how to console her.
After a moment of silence, Lily suddenly turned around, "Aunt Harper, you haven’t had breakfast yet, have you? I can stay with Hope. Go get some breakfast, and maybe bring back some flowers and fruit as well. Adding some decoration to the room can make the atmosphere look more pleasant."
Aunt Harper, remembering Christopher’s instructions, smiled, "There’s no need. I’ll wait for Mr. Hart."
"He just went back home from the office this morning. He’ll come after having a shower and changing clothes."
Fearing further refusal, Lily hurried, "Please, go ahead. I have something at nine anyway."
Thinking that she was soon to be the lady of the house, Aunt Harper could not oppose her wish and just thanked her and quickly left.
The room was left with Lily alone.
She stood by the bed, looking at the quietly sleeping little girl, the smile and tenderness on her face completely thawed.
In place of warmth, there was now a cold hatred and a murderous intent in her eyes.
Wendy had said, "Once this burden is dead, the bond between Christopher Hart and Amelia Garcia will be completely severed!"
Moreover, Christopher hasn’t taken care of his daughter properly, Amelia will definitely hate him to death!
She admitted that her mentality was twisted, but it was all because she was forced!
Christopher, you forced me...
She chanted in her heart and then reached out with one hand, her sharp, long, and hard-carved manicure pinching the oxygen tube.
Time ticked by.
Hope Hart, in her unconscious state, knew nothing, but her survival instincts made her trembly shake her little head.
Suddenly, the door of the hospital room swung open with a bang.
She startled, trembling all over, quickly let go of her hand, and while her heart gnashed her teeth in hatred, she turned around with a smile on her face, "Aunt Harper, you’re so..."
She stopped abruptly.
"What are you doing?"
Amelia Garcia stormed in and pushed her away.
Lily Garcia staggered back, bumping into a table behind her, quickly shifting from panic to rage.
"Again you? It seems you didn’t listen to a word I said the other day! Still addicted to being the other woman, have you no shame!" she snapped bitterly.
Amelia Garcia didn’t pay any heed to her attempts to change the subject, she carefully looked around the bedside again and asked sternly, "What were you just doing? Were you trying to harm Hope?"
"What nonsense are you talking about! You’re just spitting blood!" Lily Garcia retorted fiercely.
But Amelia Garcia didn’t believe her at all.
She took out her phone and called Christopher Hart directly.
Unexpectedly, he hung up!
He didn’t answer?!
She paused, frowning and gnashing her teeth in secret.
Damn it!
Lily Garcia was initially a bit panicky, but seeing that her call didn’t go through, she suddenly became smug.
"You’re calling Christopher? He didn’t answer, right? Homewreckers should just explode on the spot! Knowing that someone is getting married but still clinging desperately, so shameless! Women like you should be stripped and caged, and be used by men—"
Before she could finish, a tall figure appeared at the doorway of the hospital room, accompanied by a cold and stern question: "Who allowed you to disturb Hope?"
Both women turned around abruptly.
Amelia Garcia looked slightly astonished but quickly regained composure, understanding why he had hung up just now.
But Lily Garcia’s expression became intricately marvelous.
She had been preparing to thoroughly humiliate her rival, even considering bringing friends to strip her and parade her around, but she hadn’t expected the tables to turn so swiftly!
Christopher Hart immediately questioned her presence there!
"Christopher... I, Hope is undergoing surgery, and how could I possibly not be here for such a big affair? Besides, Wendy is worried about Hope too, but she’s unable to move right now, so she asked me to come and check..."
She had her trump card.
Bringing up Wendy was like a get-out-of-jail-free card.
But unexpectedly, Christopher Hart shot back, "She should just mind her own business. She doesn’t need to worry about anything else."
"She’s her aunt, this..."
"Whether or not you truly care about Hope, I know very well, so stop acting in front of me."
Lily Garcia’s face flushed red, her eyes darted around, her voice weak as a mosquito, "Of course, I am sincere..."
"Get out." Christopher Hart didn’t let her finish.
"Christopher!"
Standing in front of her rival, Lily Garcia felt utterly humiliated, would kill if she could.
"Why can she stay, and I cannot? Tell me the truth, is she Amelia Garcia?"
Lily Garcia suddenly became hysterical, pointing angrily at her rival and interrogating Christopher Hart.
"You know she is Amelia Garcia, right? Are you guys planning to remarry? Was agreeing to marry me just a delaying tactic, and you two had already hooked up, hadn’t you!"
