Chapter 203: Chapter – 182 - It’s Just Not That Simple

Gaibe’s Point Of View

"Boss! We have a situation on our hands!" Ahjin yelled, looking up from his tablet.

"What is it? Try to calm down Jin, it’s too early in the morning for this..." I replied, looking in his direction.

"The headcount for the Omegas in your Rehabilitation Center has decreased... By a third!" He said, clearly not understanding what it meant to calm down.

"Seriously... Those Government assholes are pushing it. How many days has the decrease persisted?" I asked, looking over the information he was showing me.

I widened my eyes in shock. Something was definitely happening behind the scenes. The spike in abductions had all taken place in the last 3 days alone. The Omega Center was more of a shelter than a facility. We provided a room and education, however the Omegas were free to come and goes as they pleased.

Most of them often went out to look for jobs, or to find a way to make money. We provided a basic meal, but any lavish dishes were typically paid for outside of the Center.

"Does this mean we have a spy in our ranks?" Ahjin asked, his panic shifting to anger.

"It’s possible. We were told as much during the meeting. They would definitely want insider information..." I replied, thoughtfully.

"How do we go about weeding them out? We haven’t hired any new personnel in over a year... Which means they’ve been amongst us for at least that long..." Ahjin said, pulling out his phone.

"It’s just not that simple. We would cripple ourselves if we just started pointing fingers aimlessly..." I sighed wearily.

"This is a nightmare... Hey, Alahstir. Where are you right now?" Ahjin said, pacing around my office.

–Hey. I’m at the Center. You need to get down here, now. I’m not sure what’s going on, but the Omegas... They’re beginning to revolt. It’s a mess!

"What do you mean? Why are they disgruntled?" Ahjin asked, setting his phone down atop my desk.

–They said that the citizens have turned on them, and they are conducting a citizen’s arrest on any and all Omegas for a chance at the reward money.

"What the hell!?" I yelled, standing up in anger.

"Things could not get any worse, Sir. How do we quell the masses, and safeguard the Omegas?" Ahjin asked, his fists clenched tightly.

"We will head to the center. Alahstir, prepare the Omegas to relocate for the time being." I said, grabbing my jacket.

–Understood, Sir. Where will we take them?

"My estate, obviously... I promised to protect them, and I intend to do just that." I replied, walking out the door.

’I’m not sure how to lure out the rats. They could honestly be hiding among the Omegas as well... However, there is a bigger scheme at play here... I will not fail! There is too much at stake, and I’m not in the mood for games!’

Mahlekai’s Point Of View

"Sir, forgive me for my rudeness... But I can’t help but notice that you seem a bit unwell..." Raymohnd said, glancing at me nervously.

"No need for forgiveness. Truth is, I’m extremely uneasy. I’ve had this foreboding feeling for a while now. I can’t seem to figure out why, though..." I sighed.

I couldn’t pinpoint why I had this feeling, however, something just didn’t sit right with me. I was looking over the cataloged information for Zachariah’s facility, but something wasn’t adding up.

"Raymohnd, is this information from the facility up to date?" I asked, perplexed.

"To my knowledge... We recieve daily logs twice a day... Why do you ask?"

"I could be wrong, but it’s possible that this information is being fabricated in places..." I replied, showing him the tablet with the data I was referring to.

"Hmm? You know, I don’t think you’re wrong. It’s entirely possible that we are not getting an accurate account of everything..." He replied, thoughtfully.

"Who is in charge of updating the data?"

"I believe there are two people who oversee that task... Should I summon them?"

"Yes. I would like to have a word with them. Summon 4 more guards as well, we may have a wolf in our midst..." I nodded.

"Understood, Sir. I’ll do so right away." He replied, before leaving in haste.

I began to study the data and compare it to the previous week. Individually, the discrepancies weren’t very apparent, but looking at the data as a collective whole, there were quite a few alarming disparities.

To add insult to injury, it wasn’t just one category being affected. There were financial inconsistencies that bordered on embezzlement. Another category being affected was our supply consumption with things like inhibitors, contraceptives, and food.

Also, the amount of employees and labor costs were so dissimilar to previous accounts that I wondered how it had gone unnoticed for so long.

On closer inspection, I could actually understand how most of it had gone unnoticed. Because unless you compared the data, with the population of Omegas in the facility, you really couldn’t tell that there was an issue at all.

However, within the last 5 months alone, the number of Omegas dwelling inside the facility had nearly plummeted down to half the amount that we had started with.

"Mahlekai, Sir? I have brought the two men that you requested." Raymohnd said as he entered the office, and pulled me from my cogitation.

I looked up from the tablet and leveled my gaze on the two men. There was a chance that they were both deceitful snakes, and they could potentially be working together. There was only one way to find out, and I would put my all into finding out.

"Please, have a seat. I would like to discuss a few things with you, if you don’t mind." I said politely, indicating the two vacant seats in front of the desk.

"Understood." They replied in unison.

"My name is Mahlekai. I’m overseeing the Duhtchy and facility for the time being. Please, tell me your names and the position you hold within the facility."

"My name is Polairress, I am the Chief Accountant for the facility." The plain man with cloudy hazel eyes said.

"My name is Gervahnt, and I am the Assistant Biochemical Geneticists." The older man with salt and pepper colored hair said.

"How long have you been in those positions?" I asked, eyeing them carefully.

I didn’t want to miss a single twitch or change in their demeanor. On the surface, they both seemed to be tense and nervous. However, if they were actual spies, they would be proficient in the ways of deception.

"I’ve held this position for almost three years. It’ll be three years in May." Polairress said.

"I’ve held my position for five years now... Do you mind if I ask what this is all about?" Gervahnt asked warily.

"I see... I’ve summoned you both here due to some irregularities found in your daily reports. I would like to hear your side of the story, before jumping to conclusions." I said, deepening my smile.

Upon my reply, both men seemed to tense up even more than before. Polairress began to shift his eyes around the room, almost like he was looking for a good escape route. Meanwhile, Gervahnt began to fidget about in his seat, his complexion slowly draining of any color.

’If I didn’t know any better... I’d say that they are both hiding something...’
