Chapter 204: Chapter – 183 - Bend Until It Breaks

Xavier’s Point Of View

"Hey, Xander. Have you heard any news from Zachariah yet?" I asked, walking into our office.

"No, not yet. But..."

"What is it?" I asked, concerned.

I couldn’t help but notice how fatigued Xander was looking. I knew that the problems within our Duhtchy were growing, but he seemed especially worn down today.

"The citizens have begun to turn on the Omegas... It doesn’t make any sense though..." He replied, resting his head in his hands.

I couldn’t help but do a double take at his words. We hadn’t made a facility in our Duhtchy, and the Omegas here within the Duhtchy mostly consisted of native born citizens. For the other citizens to turn on them so arbitrarily, was ominous as hell.

"What does this mean?" I asked, taking a seat in front of Xander.

"I want to consult with the other Kings to see if they are having similar issues, but it’s entirely possible that an outsider is inciting the public into baseless action..." Xander said with a grimace.

It was unthinkable. The citizens were being manipulated on a wide scale. The government was beginning to bare there fangs now, and they were dragging innocent civilians into their bullshit.

*BZZZ...BZZZ...BZZZ...*

I pulled out my phone and frowned. It was a private number, and there was only one person who had ever called us privately.

"Answer it. I’m over their bullshit." Xander said through gritted teeth.

I gave a firm nod, as I answered my phone while putting it on speaker, and then set it down on top of Xander’s desk.

"Shaihffer, I don’t have time for silly games right now." I said angrily into the phone.

–Close, but not quite. This is his brother, Chazmen.

A deep smooth voice chuckled in amusement. Something about the way he spoke, made my hackles rise.

’This guy is pure scum...’

"What do you want Chazmen? You guys really put the use, in abuse of power." I said, even more irritated than before.

–That’s pretty rude. I’m not sure I know what you are referring to... The polite thing to do would be to greet me properly so we can begin our conversation. A simple, ’Hello’ would suffice.

"I’m pretty sure I said I don’t have time for games. Get to the point."

–Haaah... I suppose you can’t train all dogs the same... I have a question for you boys. Would you indulge me for a moment?

A silence stretched on for a moment, and my irritation hit it’s max. I looked over at Xander and he seemed to be having similar issues as well.

’They’re definitely brothers... They clearly get a kick out of wasting the time of others...’

"Chazmen, cut the shit and stop wasting my time! Ask your fucking questions, or piss the hell off!" Xander yelled out before I had the chance.

–Temper, Temper... Sheesh, you’re going to get gray hairs if you keep stressing out so much...

He chuckled, but I didn’t find him very amusing. My thumb was hovering over the end call button eagerly.

–How loyal are you to your fellow Kings? How loyal do you think they are in return? There’s a rat among you, and they have given us extensive details of your plans. I’m prepared to make you a deal.

"You are the damn rat! We’d be idiots to–"

"What do you want?" Xander said, interrupting me.

I looked up at him in shock. I couldn’t believe what he was saying.

’He’s not actually going to entertain this bastard, is he?’

–Well... There’s going to be a large skirmish taking place in the near future... How much Corra can I give you, in order for you guys to stay out of things? I’m prepared to release your citizens as well...

I looked at Xander, my eyes wide in shock. He looked as if he were actually thinking things over, and weighing our options.

I muted my phone immediately, and leveled an angry glare at him. Money would never be worth the betrayal, and we had other ways to rescue our citizens.

"Xander, what the hell are you even thinking right now!?" I asked, angrily.

"I’m thinking of using this bastard as a pawn in his own game... It would be too easy for them to usurp our Duhtchy. We border 3 Government Controlled Duhtchies after all. We need to play it smart here." He replied, scratching his head in frustration.

–I’m waiting...

"What exactly are you asking us to do? I find it hard to believe that you just need us to refuse to help our fellow Kings. I also know that no one would betray us for someone who is actively trying to ruin our Duhtchies, and violating our Treaty." I replied, taking my phone off of mute.

–Belive what you want, however, even if it’s proven that the Treaty has been violated, we will still carry out our plan. You should do your best to not get in our way. Now, I’ll let you in on a little secret though... We have people in place in all of your Duhtchies, in places that will allow us to topple your regions overnight. Anyone who stands in our way, will be eliminated.

"So let me get this straight. You guys plan to attack Ferdinand’s home, and abduct the Omegas living there. You’re telling us not to help him?" Xander asked.

–Precisely. And if you can confirm how many Omegas are in his home, we will return your Omegas and provide you and your Duhtchy monetary reparations.

"And if we refuse?" I asked.

–Consider your Duhtchy forfeit, and your indentured servitude activated. You have 4 days to think it over. We’ll be in touch.

*Click*

"Fucking unbelievable bastards!" I growled angrily.

"They’re not even giving us a damn choice! We’re damned if we do, and damned if we dont!" Xander said.

"Looks like they were right, if a King lends any aid, their Duhtchy’s will be at risk of an attack. It’s likely that the attack will come from the inside as well..." I sighed.

"We need to tell everyone. It’s probably best that we put our Duhtchies on lockdown and the others close their facilities. This is getting too dangerous, and it’s impossible to know where the snakes are now..." Xander said, pulling up some information on his tablet.

The government was purposely bending the law until it broke, and we couldn’t properly defend against their attacks because we wouldn’t even know where they would strike from.

’They’re putting us between a rock and a hard place...’
