Chapter 202: Chapter – 181 - A True Monarch

Zachariah’s Point Of View

"Jaymehsyn, is everything ready?" I asked, grabbing my jacket from his outstretched arm.

"Yes, my King. I have placed all the necessary documents inside this satchel, and I have arranged for Mahlekai to take charge in our absence." He replied, placing his left hand above his heart.

I secured the satchel and my jacket into place, then looked up at him with a start. I hadn’t expected him to go so far.

"You intend to come with me? I assumed that you would take command while I’m away." I said, eyeing him curiously.

"I cannot deny that I pondered this decision quite restlessly. I had a hard time finding someone capable to entrust this responsibility to, as well. Please forgive me for not consulting you first." He replied, bowing deeply.

"It’s fine, Jay. Truthfully, I’m a little hesitant to leave my responsibilities to anyone but you... Is there a reason that you decided to tag along with me?" I asked, resuming our walk towards the door.

"My reason is simple... I’m the only subordinate under your command that was there, during the initial signing of the Constitutional Contract between your father and the previous Parliament. I wagered that such a burden could not be replaced by anyone else. Mahlekai has proven to be extremely capable, so I have no issues with him taking point while we’re away." Jaymehsyn said, opening the front door for me.

I looked back at him in surprised realization. It had completely slipped my mind that he had agreed to be my father’s second-in-command. I was never told about Jaymehsyn’s reasons for doing so, and he never explained why he was willing to serve me after my father passed away.

However, it was extremely comforting to me knowing that he would have my back during this upcoming meeting.

I didn’t say anything else, and nodded in heartfelt approval. I wasn’t exactly nervous about the meeting, but I was incredibly pissed off that I had to have this meeting at all.

I knew that Jaymehsyn wouldn’t let me fly off the rails into a blind fury, and with him at my side I was certain that nothing would go unresolved.

"Shall we depart, My King?" Jaymehsyn asked, standing next to the helicopter.

I gave him a sincere smile and nodded.

"Yes. Let us go, and show them what it means to be a True Monarch." I grinned.

It was insulting that they had perpetrated such underhanded tactics, and abused their power in the process. What’s more, they dared to point their aggressions towards the Mafia Kings.

’I hope you’re prepared to accept the consequences of your actions. I will not take pity on you, and you will restore order and peace within this nation... Mark my words...’

Ohr’Aizen’s Point Of View

"Sir? Zachariah is here to see you. He is waiting in the lobby." Monicah said, as she nervously stood in my doorway.

"Understood. Please escort him to conference room #3 on floor 50. I will be there shortly." I said, trying to keep my voice calm and steady.

"As you wish. I will make sure he is taken care of, until your arrival." She bowed dutifully.

"Make sure you bring some coffee." I said, waving her away.

I was a nervous wreck on the inside. I had no idea what I would do if he demanded reparations, or if he could refute my claims. I felt like an idiot dancing in the palm of Shaihffer’s hand.

The previous President had every right to refuse his proposal. However, he was a foolish idiot for not explaining why he had refused it at all. I tried to deny Shaihffer’s proposal, but unfortunately, there was only one alternative option for me if I refused.

Once Shaihffer had finally listened to reason, it had been too late, and he basically dumped all the responsibility for this meeting into my lap.

As I stepped into the elevator, my mind began to spiral out of control. I couldn’t help but overthink my entire situation and this meeting. I had to find a way to protect myself in the event that this meeting did not end in Shaihffer’s favor.

<Floor 50... Please watch your step.>

The chime of the elevator snapped me back into focus, and I took a deep breath. I slowly exhaled as I walked down the corridor. I didn’t have time to be afraid anymore, all I could do was fight towards the future and hope for the best.

"How impertinent he is to make you wait for him, when he knew ahead of time about your arrival." I heard a deep, annoyed voice grumble.

"It’s fine, Jay. Parliament is a very time consuming position. I imagine they have their trepidations about all of this..." Another voice reasoned calmly.

’Trepidation? I’m frigging terrified!’

"Apologies for my tardiness. I was just doing some last minute preparations..." I said, as I walked into the room.

"It’s no problem. I’m glad you agreed to this meeting on such short notice." A man with long gray hair with white highlights, and emerald green eyes said.

’Not like I had a choice in the matter...’

"Hello. It’s good to finally meet you. I am Ohr’Aizen... You must be King Zachariah, I presume?" I said, stretching out my hand toward him.

"Indeed. It’s good to finally put a name to the face. I’m Zachariah, 2nd Monarch to the Mafia Kings." He smiled politely, accepting my hand.

’Yeesh! Talk about presence! And what’s with his grip? He’s going to crush my hand!’

"We are both busy men, so I won’t waste your time with needless small talk." I said nervously, taking the seat across from him.

"Yes, that would be most helpful. This is my second-in-command, Jaymehsyn. He will serve as a witness, and will oversee any breaches or discrepancies in the contract. Is that acceptable?" Zachariah asked, calmly.

"Yes, that shouldn’t be a problem. Is there a specific reason why you’ve chosen him as a third party impartial witness? I must admit, its hard for me to believe his views will not be bias in these regards..." I asked, curiously.

"Well, as it stands, Jaymehsyn was counted among the attendees during the first meeting. He was a witness to the initial signing of the Constitutional Contract between my father, Ahrexander and the previous Parliament. He can remain unbiased in these proceedings, because it is his sworn duty as a witness. So please be at ease." Zachariah explained.

I nodded in understanding, and opened the folder in front of me.

"It is my understanding, that you are here due to a violation of the Constitutional Contract that was signed, correct?" I asked.

"Yes. These brazen aggressions towards the Kings and myself are the peak of arrogance, and a blatant disregard for the contract. You must understand that these actions are tantamount to declaring war on the Kings, no?" Zachariah asked, sternly.

"I’m not sure I follow. The government is just trying to collect its scattered property. Our buildings were ransacked and destroyed, while our property was stolen in the process. These are things that cannot be overlooked as a small inconvenience." I said firmly.

"And if these incidents remained a government problem, then I would have readily agreed with you. However, the government attacked a Mafia King on multiple occasions. The last assault happened in a government controlled Duhtchy, however a Mafia King’s family was involved. That’s to say nothing of Lady Chastaine’s decision to hold me hostage." He replied with a glare.

"While I agree that Danhiel and Hastings acted out of line, you must know that it’s not actually that simple. A Mafia King has laid claim to government property, we are not at fault for using any methods necessary to retrieve it. There are no laws against such actions."

I was treading on flimsy territory now. While the contract allowed the Kings to protect family members, there were no laws to prevent the Kings from making Government property their family. But such a loophole was far too risky to ignore. It opened the door for the Kings to just make any Omega they came across, a part of their family.

"One could argue, that the negligence of the Government is at fault here. My Kings did not go out of their way to claim your property. They did not seek your property out intentionally. Had said property been properly cared for and secured, their union would not have come to pass." Zachariah retorted.

I had hit a brick wall. Everything he said was correct. The government had acted rashly, and out of jealous anger. We couldn’t fault the Kings for retaliating.

"Tell me, Ohr’Aizen... What kind of dirt do they have on you to force you into this position? They’ve made you a disposable scapegoat, and you seem wholly aware of that fact." Zachariah asked, clasping his hands above the table.

’Should I confide in him? Petition him for aid?’
