Chapter 171: Side Story - 11 - And So, Farewell
Kaleb’s Point Of View
Breakfast had gone from zero to one hundred in the blink of an eye. I couldn’t believe that Tristan was pregnant. Even more unbelievable was that he was going to keep it.
It made what I wanted to say to everyone inconsequential. I had been worried that everyone would overreact and I’d be forced to argue with them so early in the morning, but Tristan dropped the bomb of all bombs just now, so I had no more concerns.
Everyone slowly began to accept the news after Sable congratulated Tristan, but Delcain had nothing but worry in his eyes. I had spent over a week with Gaibe, and even though I told him he could go home at any time, he wouldn’t, unless I expressly ordered him to.
In the beginning, that didn’t seem like it would be hard to do. But after 4 days, I had this feeling that it would be twice as hard to meet him again, so I couldn’t bring myself to dismiss him so easily.
I knew I wanted to spend more time with him after he had met Kaihsie. She had taken a liking to him instantly, and she wanted to be near him just as much as I did. It turned out that he was really good with kids as well. He had no problem playing with Kaihsie, or Tahlia for that matter.
The only thing about him that would take some getting used to would be...
"You still sure you want to do this?" Gaibe whispered to me, his hand on my knee.
He was far too perceptive, and way too perverted. He always wanted to have some kind of physical contact with me whenever he was close by. Even outside of my heat cycle, he made me extremely nervous, all the time.
"Yeah... Now, more than ever." I nodded.
It was now or never, and I probably wouldn’t get another chance to do this in the future. Things were always happening at a rapid pace here, and I just wanted to take it easy. If only for a little while.
"Uhm... I too, have an announcement..." I said, garnering everyone’s attention at once.
Now that everyone was staring at me expectantly, I became even more nervous than before. My mouth went dry and my eyes locked with Tristan’s.
It was entirely like he already knew what I was going to say. His eyes held a sort of sadness that I hadn’t seen in a long time.
"Well, don’t stand on ceremony. What is it?" Sylvester asked.
"I’ve decided to move... out... Tomorrow..." I murmured.
And for the second time today, the sound of cutlery hitting plates crescendoed throughout the room.
Everyone looked at me with wide eyes, and dropped jaws. That is, everyone but Tristan, who lowered his head, sadness consuming his eyes.
"Huh? Tomorrow? But, why?" Delcain yelled.
"Where will you go? I don’t want you to leave, Kaleb!" Arrisa cried.
"So we add a niece, but lose a brother? What about Kaihsie?" Sable asked, looking hurt.
"I’m sorry Ari... But I need to do this. It’s not like it’s goodbye forever, just for a while. And I’m going to take Kaihsie with me, of course, Sable. My sister, my responsibility. I need this, okay? Please don’t hate me, Del."
Tristan looked up at me with unshed tears in his eyes.
"You have a place to go, yes?" He asked, wiping his eyes before the tears could fall.
"Yes. I’d say come visit me any time, but we both know that wouldn’t be logical or safe, for either of us." I murmured.
"Right. Okay then. If this is what you want, then I won’t stop you." Tristan said, choking back a sob.
I hadn’t forgotten that he had called me his favorite. It meant more to me than he would ever know, and I would hold that statement close to the chest forever.
"What do you mean!? I don’t accept this! Everything is happening way too fast!" Delcain yelled.
"Even still, it’s happening. To be honest, this was just a formality. I was leaving regardless of what you all said about it. I have to. It’s the safest and most logical action that I can take. I’m sorry, big brother." I said, without a shred of remorse.
That ridiculously close brush with Lore’rahlye had given me a massive wake up call. We were all in much more danger being around Tristan, than we would be if we separated. The girls had the twins, and Tristan had his mates...
But me and Delcain were basically massive liabilities and vice versa. Not to mention, the people after us wanted Tristan more than anyone. They would use the rest of us to control him. We had no future with a life like that.
"Look after him for me, Gaibe. I’ll kill you otherwise." Tristan said, locking eyes with Gaibe and leveling a murderous look at him.
"No need to keep threatening me, Tristan. I saw it up close, remember?" Gaibe chuckled nervously.
"As long as you know, we won’t have any issues." Tristan said, matter-of-factly.
’With Tristan’s approval, I have no more worries...’

Gaibe’s Point Of View
Breakfast had been nerve-wracking. Kaleb’s siblings definitely hated my guts. They’d be floored to know that I had been just as shocked and surprised when Kaleb had sprang the proposal on me the night before.
He was extremely strong willed after his heat cycle had ended. He voiced his opinions openly, and bossed me around like I wasn’t a damn Mafia King. He became ten times more interesting and amusing. Wehsley would have an absolute fit over him for sure.
Meeting his little sister had been my absolute downfall. She was insanely adorable and more clingy than her brother. She had thrown a fit on the first day of meeting me, never wanting to leave my side. She was endearing as hell, and extremely smart for a toddler.
I knew after meeting her, that I had to protect the both of them. Something inside me had just flipped into that thought process, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that misfortune would befall these adorable siblings if I didn’t.
"Do you have everything you need?" Tristan asked Kaleb, hugging him tightly.
Kaleb had actually packed the night before, hell bent on not being here for another day no matter what his siblings had to say.
"Yeah.... If I missed anything, Gaibe can just come back and get it." Kaleb shrugged.
"Cheeky little shit. How about they just mail it to me, you brat." I grumbled.
Tristan looked up at me over Kaleb’s shoulder and smiled gently. It was the first real smile I had seen him make since being here.
The conversation I had with him two days ago, would forever be permanently engraved into my mind. He had creatively, and thoroughly threatened me in every way possible. And that was before we knew of Kaleb’s escape plan.
"I love you Kaleb. You better write or text me. Send me postcards if you go anywhere. Make sure you actually live a life. You could never stand being a bird in a cage very well..." Tristan said, releasing Kaleb.
"Yeah. No more cages." Kaleb smiled a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
"I’ll miss you big brother!" Arrisa cried, her cheeks tear stained and eyes puffy.
She obviously hadn’t been able to stop crying since Breakfast yesterday.
"One day, we will get to hang out and see each other again. I’ll miss you everyday until I get to see you again. Be good Ari, be sure to look after the others for me, okay?"
"Okay..." She sobbed into his shoulder.
"Love you, Ari." He smiled, as he pulled away from her.
*SMACK!*
The deafening smack robbed the entire foyer of speech. Meanwhile, Kaleb looked down at Sable and took her hand. He rubbed her palm, that was now red from the slap.
"That hurt, didn’t it?" He asked.
"You’ve always been a selfish asshole, but this is a new low. I get it... I swear I do... But I’m still incredibly pissed off! Don’t come crawling back when you find out how miserable life is... without... us..." Sable could no longer keep it together, and collapsed to the ground sobbing.
"I’ll miss you the most, Sable. Try not to hate me too much. Please?"
"Fuck you, Kaleb! You have no idea! I-I don’t... Ugh! I’ll miss you, asshole..."
Raihne knelt beside her and pulled her into his arms. I didn’t envy the guy. He clearly had his work cut out for him.
"Bye, Kaleb. Take care of yourself. I’ll still be worried sick about you, every day. Watch your back." Delcain said, ruffling Kaleb’s hair with tears in his eyes.
"Yeah... I hope you find your peace as well, big brother. Thanks for everything..."
I helped Alahstir load up Kaleb’s luggage while he said his final farewells. He slowly made his way to the car, a big smile on his face with tears streaming down his cheeks.
"I love you, Kaleb! You big dummy!"
His siblings yelled their goodbyes, but he never turned around.
"....Goodbye guys. I’ll love you all.... Always..." He cried softly.
