Chapter 170: Side Story - 10 - A Bigger Family
Sable’s Point Of View
I woke up feeling smothered. It had been happening much more frequently as of late. And the culprit?
"Raihne... You’re squishing me!" I groaned, trying to free myself from his body weight.
"Mmm... it’s fine, isn’t it? You’re safer this way, anyway." He grumbled, flinging his arm atop my head.
"I have to pee, dummy!"
I shoved him to the side and rolled off the bed. After stretching a bit, I looked back towards the bed and saw Arrisa suffering the same fate.
The twins had become extremely paranoid after the invasion and Arrisa’s capture. There was nowhere we could go, that they didn’t follow.
I shook my head, and then headed for the bathroom. Even though Arrisa and I had our own rooms, we never stayed in them alone. We’d alternate between the two, sometimes sleeping in Ari’s room, and other times my room.
No matter where we slept, the twins would be there too. We got tired of waking up to them asleep on our floors, so Mr. Torhrezz purchased bigger beds for our rooms.
After taking a shower and brushing my teeth, I made my way back out to my room. I gasped in surprise when I noticed that Raihne was awake, and standing against the wall beside the bathroom door.
"Seriously, Raihne... You’re way too paranoid now. It stresses me out."
"Well, better stressed than missing." He said with a Hmph.
"Ari, time to wake up. We are going to have breakfast with everyone today." Payhne said, picking her up and rubbing her cheek.
I sort of felt bad for both of them. They fussed in their sleep quite a bit. No doubt having nightmares about the invasion. Payhne felt like his loyalties were being split, and Ari felt like he was working too hard. She was just glad that he came for her, but he was upset that he hadn’t been here to stop it from happening in the first place
It was quite a strange conundrum they found themselves in. Lost in thought, it suddenly registered what Payhne had said.
"Wait, we’re eating with everyone? Who’s everyone?" I asked, looking at Raihne.
"Well... Ferdinand said it was breakfast with the whole family. So I assume that means everyone." Raihne shrugged.
"Well, Meah, Nahana, Odehssa, Josephine, and a few of the guys are gone. But Del, us, Ferdinand and Co., Tristan, Synnahmen, Meyhymn, Ezekihel, Kaleb, Gaibe, and Santiago should all be there." Payhne said, thoughtfully.
"Hmm? Who’s Gaibe, Payhne?" Arrisa asked, yawning.
"Haha. You’ll see. It’s been a crazy week for sure." Raihne said with a chuckle.
I wasn’t sure what that was supposed to mean, but it seemed like they were the only ones in on the joke. I shrugged and walked into my closet. I got dressed quickly and made my way back out into my room.
"Payhne and Ari are going to meet us down there." Raihne said, as I left my closet.
"Okay then. Let’s go."
We walked out of my room and down to the kitchen. Raihne was moving much better now, having upgraded his cast to a boot. I supported him down the stairs, and we made it to the dining room in no time at all.
I could already hear Uncle Syl goofing off inside. Honestly, it made me hesitate to open the door. I wanted to listen in on the conversations being had instead.
But Raihne...
"Good Morning! How are we all?" He said loudly, as he pushed open both doors.
I rolled my eyes and walked in after him. He was in such a bright mood, and it was kind of unnerving to say the least. Meyhymn and Ezekihel were laughing at Raihne’s entry, and Sylvester walked right up to me.
"Good Morning, Sable." Sylvester said, ruffling my hair.
"Good Morning, Uncle Syl. Where’s Tristan?" I asked, noticing that he and Cole were the only ones here out of the group.
"He should be on his way. Tristan was feeling a bit unwell this morning." Cole said, kissing my forehead.
"Okay..."
I gave him a hug, and then headed to my chosen seat. I noticed that the nannies had already brought Kaihsie and Tahlia down and placed them in their high chairs. They were adorably talking to each other while sipping their juice.
Delcain walked in next and sat to my left. Followed shortly by Ari and Payhne. Ari sat to my right, smiling from ear to ear.
"Good Morning Del." I said, as he got comfortable.
"Good Morning, Sable. You sleeping okay?"
"Yeah... more or less. I think Raihne is being a bit overbearing, but what’s new?"
Del chuckled as he looked over my shoulder to see Raihne standing behind me.
Santiago and Syn were next to enter the dining room. I was a huge fan of the adorable Omega. I didn’t quite know why, but I found him extremely cute and wanted to dote on him as his big sister. Even though he was older than I was.
Santiago didn’t let Syn go too far from his sight or grasp, it reminded me of how our uncles acted around Tristan in the beginning. I found myself smiling softly, as Santiago held Syn’s hand, even after taking their seats.
"All I’m saying is, that this is going to be so frikkin awkward–"
I heard Kaleb complaining with someone, when Torhrezz opened the door on him, unexpectedly. Kaleb flinched at all the eyes on him, then glared at the man at his side.
The other guy was handsome as hell. I was awestruck. I couldn’t stop staring between him and Kaleb. I wasn’t sure when or how it happened, but it was clear that Kaleb really liked the guy.
I never thought I’d see the day where Kaleb had chosen someone to be with. It was more shocking than anything else. And given our history, I was sure he would be like Del and not want a male partner.
But surprise surprise. He was even smiling. It was so bizarre.
Next to enter was Tristan, Bellamy, and Ferdinand. They rounded out our massive family, and the space inside the dining room seemed much smaller just looking at everyone.
I looked at Tristan in Bellamy’s arms, and he did seem much more pale and extremely tired. I became instantly worried.
As everyone got situated, the servants brought out platter after platter of food. Once everything was set on the table, plates began to be made in earnest.
While everyone was shoving the food into their mouths in rapid succession, Tristan only ate a few pieces of fruit here and there. I wasn’t the only one who noticed either.
"Tristan, are you okay? You look... Awful..." Del asked with not an ounce of tact.
Tristan looked up at Bellamy, and then back at us. He took a slow measured breath before giving his announcement.
"Yea, well... About that. It would appear that I am currently pregnant." He replied nervously.
Meanwhile, cutlery clattered, loud gasps were heard, and Delcain was choking on his food.
It felt like time had stopped. Like the world was grinding to a halt. I felt tears beginning to sting my eyes. I had seen enough pregnant women at the facility to know that child birthing was terrifying.
It was extremely unpredictable, no matter how careful you were. Many Omega women died during or shortly after birthing. I couldn’t even begin to know what that would mean for Tristan.
A male Omega giving birth was a rarity upon rarities. So there was no telling how serious it could be. I was scared out of my mind, and I wasn’t the only one...
"You must be joking! Don’t you realize how dangerous that is!?" Kaleb yelled.
"For once, I agree with the moody teenager. Seriously, Tristan. What the hell?" Delcain said.
"Congratulations big brother! I’m going to be another auntie! Yay!" Arrisa innocently exclaimed.
"Which of these idiots knocked you up? I’m definitely going to punch them!" Raihne said.
Payhne still hadn’t even recovered from his initial shock. Santiago and Syn hadn’t either for that matter. Everyone was staring with their jaws dropped to the ground, not even daring to breathe...
"I’m with Ari, congrats Tristan. Even if this isn’t something you expressly wanted, bringing new life into the world should be celebrated. And your family is big enough now to make sure everything will be fine." Meyhymn said with a big smile.
Then it hit me. Meyhymn was right. We had enough people to help with anything. The doctors here actually cared if we lived or died. And our uncles were no slouches either. I finally got ahold of myself, and stood up.
Then, I slowly made my way around the table and over to Tristan. Once I reached him, Bellamy slid his chair back a bit so I could properly face Tristan.
He looked happy and terrified all at once.
"Haaah... Another baby, big brother? The cuteness level in this house will be unrivaled... I’m scared, y’know? But I’m happy for you all the same. Auntie Seraphine would be freaking out right now. Auntie Josephine will definitely freak. You better brace yourself." I said, pressing my forehead against his.
"Thanks Sable. I love you too." He chuckled.
’Haaah.... Seriously, this family is getting way too big...’
