Chapter 19: Empathy for others

In a blink of an eyes days flew like eagle flying in speed and the day Julie and Roman will officially assign the marriage agreement come.

As someone who like her space Julie was sitting in her room alone without any disturbance, as think of what will happen in her life after marrying Roman, and indeed her life will take drastic change from miss Julie Jenkins who is from an average family to Mrs Thompson the most richest person in the entire D city.

Without her Unknowing not just is he the richest person in the city but also he a king of the business world and that one person who every one is scared off.

Just the like the rest of the day Roman disappeared after the doctor left for the few days she was alone all she knows is he left before she wake up and sighed.

’did you miss him much,’ a voice asked in her head.

And Julie said the answer thinking out loud enough for everyone and thank God she is alone in the room.

"Yes though we don’t even talk but I miss him I miss him so much and I don’t know why he is harsh sometimes yet soft hearted sometimes I wonder whether have a personality mental disorder," she said to herself as she gaze at the wardrobe.

"Knock, knock," there was a knock on the door and Julie was quick to say yes for the person to come in.

" Ah lily come in," Julie said from where she is, "ma’am here is the tea and biscuits," lily said politely and still standing with the tray without knowing where to keep it.

" Keep it on the table lily," Julie said gesturing lily to keep the tray on the table and she flow from behind sot downd.

"Ma’am do you need another thing," lily asked.

"No I don’t need anything this is enough and I’m good you can carg on with what ever you are doing," Julie said and watch as lily fidget with her fingers and still standing in front of Julie and was now sweating.

" Com on tell me what wrong with my cheerful girl that’s make you start cry what the matter," Julie said wanting to ease the situation and hear the girl problem,"

Julie said after a complete minute pass without Lily saying anything " Lily don’t you trust me enough to tell me," Julie said what she didn’t want to say as she don’t want to invent herself in someone’s private but what can she do she want to hear wrong with girl.

’She is always cheerful and with a happy smile on her face what the matter now," Julie Wondered in her mind as she looked at the girl in front of her who is now quiet as if she is not there.

" I want to go home, my mother is now sick and I should be by her side not to let her by herself but I don’t know how to asked about it and I have no idea if sir will allow me to go back or not," Lily said with tears streaming down from the two eyes like a twin stream of water.

" I’m in a dilemma ma’am what should I do I seriously don’t know I just recently start working I shouldn’t take a leave yes but my mom need me now," Lily said with a sniff.

Julie looked at Lily who is so pitiful and she smile remembering her time though the reason that make this way are two different.

While she has her family’s hatred towards her, this a child love to her own mother and that all the reason Julie want to give her the permission to leave.

"It okay don’t cry okay calm down," Julie said as she slowly pick some tissue from the table and hand it to Lily, "Oyah wipe those tears and go pack you things," Julie said to the maid Lily.

Hearing her Lily’s eyes lit up as of her life is in danger and she saw a savior "Are you serious ma’am," she asked sniffling as she rise her face to looked into Julies face.

"Ehm I’m I’m more than serious go and wash your face," Julie said smiling at Lily.

"Thank you ma’am thank you so much I wish you all the best with master," Lily said now grinning ear to ear but what she said pick Julie interest.

"What did you mean by with master huh?" Julie asked with a raise brow.

"I’m sorry ma’am yesterday I accidentally hear what you two are talking about," Lily said and Julie hummed.

"It that all you hear or you hear something more," Julie asked as the contract is main to be in between her and Roman.

"No I just hear it accidentally and then I flee away, I know I shouldn’t hear what the two of you are talking about," Lily said proving that she did not here anything.

Hearing her Julie hummed in a sighed of relief " Thank God," said softly so no one will hear her.

"Oyah carry on and stop thanking me else you will be late,"

Julie is soft hearted person indeed just being with a person for some days she is willingly to hear the person’s problem.

"I’m slowly falling in love with Julie, guys.

After some minutes Lily drag her suit out of her room and bit Julie goodbye before heading out of the house.

Julie sipped her tea, her eyes meeting Lily’s as she noticed the girl’s unusual distress. Lily’s face was flushed, and she was sweating despite the air-conditioned room. Before Julie could ask what was wrong, Lily suddenly found herself pulled down to sit beside Julie on the plush couch.

"What’s wrong, Lily?" Julie asked, her voice soft with concern. Lily cast her head down, her eyes welling up with tears. Julie’s expression softened as she caught a glimpse of the tears streaming down Lily’s cheeks.

"Oh my, what’s happening? What’s wrong?" Julie asked, her tone gentle, trying to ease the situation. A minute passed without Lily speaking, and Julie’s concern deepened. "Lily, don’t you trust me enough to tell me?" she asked, not wanting to pry but sensing something was seriously wrong.

Lily’s quiet demeanor was unnerving, and Julie’s mind raced with possibilities. "I want to go home, ma’am. My mother is sick, and I should be by her side, not leave her alone," Lily said, her voice cracking as tears flowed freely. "But I don’t know how to ask for leave, and I have no idea if Sir will allow me to go back or not."

Julie’s heart went out to Lily, remembering times when she felt similarly trapped, though for different reasons. She smiled sympathetically, recalling her own struggles with family hatred, while Lily’s situation was rooted in love and concern for her mother.

"It’s okay, don’t cry. Calm down," Julie said, slowly picking up tissues from the table and handing them to Lily. "Wipe those tears and go pack your things. You can go visit your mother."

Lily’s eyes lit up, hope and gratitude shining through her tears. "Are you serious, ma’am?" she asked, her voice filled with skepticism and longing.

"I’m more than serious. Go and wash your face," Julie said, smiling warmly at Lily. Lily’s face transformed into a bright smile, and she thanked Julie profusely. "Thank you, ma’am. Thank you so much. I wish you all the best with Master."

Julie’s curiosity was piqued by Lily’s comment. "What do you mean by ’with Master’?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. Lily’s expression turned sheepish. "I’m sorry, ma’am. Yesterday, I accidentally overheard what you two were talking about."

Julie’s interest was piqued. "Is that all you heard, or did you hear something more?" she asked, her voice measured. Lily shook her head vigorously. "No, I just heard it accidentally and then I fled away. I know I shouldn’t have overheard what the two of you were discussing."

Hearing Lily’s assurance, Julie felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Thank God," she murmured softly. "Okay, carry on and stop thanking me, or you’ll be late."

With a final thank you, Lily hurried out of the room, her suitcase packed in record time. She bid Julie a tearful goodbye before heading out of the house, leaving Julie to ponder the complexities of life and the bonds that connected people.

As Julie watched Lily leave, she felt a sense of satisfaction, knowing she had made a difference in someone’s life. Her soft heart had always been a defining trait, and being with Lily for some time had only deepened her empathy for others.
