Chapter 990: 542
"First, follow Zack to the Base to sort out supplies and become familiar with the equipment, then you’ll be briefed on the mission," Sean Knight said with a couple of welcoming words before giving them their orders.
Team members left with Zack, and Charles Young approached Sean Knight.
"Boss, good to see you!" Charles Young stretched out both hands smiling, "Are we planning a big move here?"
"Not a big move, but I just thought that we could actually do some business here. The technology is not bad!" Sean Knight shook hands with Charles Young, "Take a rest, get some food. You decide whether you’ll fly back tonight or leave tomorrow."
"I’ll fly back tonight," Charles Young said. "The things you mentioned shipping here, all the arrangements on the other end are already in place. Some items are difficult to transport..."
Hassan Bager needed supplies, and Sean Knight had hinted at it back then. He hadn’t expected them to be ready now!
It had to be said, the business drive in China nowadays was undeniable.
With fierce internal competition, who wouldn’t be proactive when finally finding an outlet for exports?
Since Charles Young was already prepared, Sean Knight had Lincoln Harrington take him to eat and then rest in preparation for departure.
"Boss, should we clear the surroundings? Our airplane has no protective measures whatsoever," Elijah Hastings reminded him.
"You’re right! Elijah, take Douglas and a few other team members with you. Bring night vision devices and scout for tactical points in the surroundings, just to prevent any issues."
Sean Knight thought of the equipment in the cave storehouse, and instructed further: "Take walkie-talkies with you. Handle what you can on your own, and communicate with us promptly if something’s beyond your control. The airplane must not encounter any problems!"
Elijah set out with his team.
Sean Knight was still worried, so he simply left the base as well, took a sniper rifle, found a highpoint, and lay down to start observing the surroundings.
In the darkness of night, he could see Elijah moving like a ghost through the mountains, focusing on patrolling a few positions that were suitable for ambushing the airplane.
Fortunately, as of now, those locations seemed to be unoccupied.
Sean Knight, using his night vision binoculars, shifted his gaze from Elijah’s team to survey a broader area.
In the distance, he could see on the wasteland to the South, right where the cave storehouse was dug out, Hassan Bager leading the tribal warriors in organizing their defenses. Emplacements were dug out, and heavy weapons were set up.
Clearly, Hassan Bager was also taking the security of tonight very seriously.
Looking in other directions, finally, Sean Knight saw from the Northwestern Direction, several people stealthily watching the base.
They were quite far away, and even with the telescope, the view was not very clear.
However, Sean Knight could see that these people were carrying antiquated rifles and lacked anti-aircraft weapons.
Sean Knight guessed that they were probably spies left behind by the Bagel Tribe from the daytime.
Of course, it could also be spies sent by other tribes. After all, the crash of an airplane here would pique the curiosity of any power in the area.
The opposition hadn’t noticed Elijah and his team and remained still in their spot.
If nothing unexpected occurred, Elijah and his team should locate them in half an hour.
Sean Knight continued scanning the area, within his visual range and didn’t detect anything that could threaten the airplane.
But he was still not reassured—the precaution of doing such a thing should have been taken before the airplane landed.
Fortunately, the airplane’s arrival was sudden and its landing quick, so even if someone had malicious intentions, they would have been caught off guard.
Otherwise, Sean Knight would be endlessly regretful!
Now was the time for damage control, so he quickly got up and ran towards another location.
Five minutes later, Sean Knight lay down at another vantage point and continued his surveillance.
From here, complementing his previous position, he could see the reverse slope that was not visible before. After cross-referencing a few times, he could almost determine any nearby locations that posed a threat.
His and Elijah’s dynamic and static actions were perfectly coordinated.
Within Sean Knight’s scope of observation, the local lookouts far away withdrew before they were discovered by Elijah’s team.
It seemed that the other side might have had night vision equipment, or maybe alarm devices.
With no conflict, Sean Knight breathed a slight sigh of relief.
Intending to stay here long-term, he preferred to avoid confrontations with local powers whenever possible.
After scanning the area without detecting any threats, Sean Knight moved to another position.
Just as he lay down in this new spot, Sean Knight saw something in the distance momentarily reflect light. He instantly became alert and looked in that direction.
Two cars were parked in a depression.
The terrain there was rather concealed; it wouldn’t be visible to the common sightline.
Next to the cars were two tents with faint light inside, indicating that there were people present.
This location was about six to seven kilometers from the base and the runway, outside the attack radius. After all, by the time the airplane took off and circled, reaching this area’s range, it would’ve already ascended to sufficient altitude.
They couldn’t be attacked.
Therefore, this location wouldn’t be within Elijah’s search area—but Sean Knight became vigilant.
By the style of the cars, these people likely weren’t tribal residents. What were they doing here?
Were they the people who visited the base the day before?
Sean Knight continued to observe them with curiosity.
Then he noticed that these people didn’t seem to have any intention of sleeping.
The light inside remained faintly lit.
