Chapter 989: 542

Mr. Hassan hesitated to make a move, but he did have confidence.

The warriors in his tribe mostly used outdated AK series rifles, but they also had a few stinger missiles.

Although these were products of many years ago, they were still quite effective against passenger planes, ordinary helicopters, and most drones now.

They had proven their effectiveness on the battlefields of Russia and Ukraine.

Otherwise, the American military wouldn’t have placed a new order with General Power Company for these old anti-aircraft missiles that were designed decades ago.

Sadly, General Power Company was both pleased and worried, for the engineers who designed and produced the Stinger were now in their seventies, and although the blueprints still existed, no one could understand them anymore.

They had to invite the old masters back to train the new employees. The production line was no longer suitable, and some parts had to be handcrafted—a very troublesome process.

No wonder NASA, despite having the blueprints for the moon landing program, simply couldn’t replicate the feat—they couldn’t understand the plans!

But I digress.

If they really had to bring down a passenger plane, a few stinger missiles would definitely do the trick.

But Hassan thought it over and decided against it.

He had heard that Mr. Hassan had good relations with some people from an eastern country and often did business there. If that passenger plane belonged to that eastern nation, not even ten times the courage would allow Hassan to entertain that idea.

He had heard of the Mekong River Operation, too.

Dispelling that notion, Hassan was still somewhat unwilling to let it go and decided to call for people.

If he couldn’t handle it alone, couldn’t he gather all the surrounding tribes and handle it together?

A big truck carrying dozens of tribal residents rushed toward the airport. Upon arrival, Zack, the driver, temporarily acted as the squad leader and translator, saying to Sean Knight:

"Mr. Knight, I’ve brought the people."

"Good, clear this airport runway—send a few people to guard the perimeter first, so we don’t get ambushed."

"Yes!" Zack immediately gave the orders, and several warriors, armed with rifles and telescopes, scampered up to the high points around the airport like mountain monkeys and hid.

The shipment included many brand-new telescopes which the warriors really liked.

The cleanup went quickly—this was just a temporary airport with a long enough runway. Although it was originally designed for rugged and durable aircraft like the C130, after Sean gave Charles Young the data, Charles said he could almost land there.

The runway was cleared quickly and wasn’t damaged—mainly because the location was so remote that nearby tribal residents, primarily interested in looting, had taken away everything they could. Nevertheless, the runway, now covered in a layer of windsand, didn’t interest the residents and was therefore not destroyed.

A team was left to collect dead branches around the perimeter and pile them into more than a dozen heaps on both sides of the runway for marking.

The rest went to the base.

Arriving at the base, Sean noticed that the people he had seen the day before had disappeared.

He asked Zack to simply clean up the living quarters first, at least to ensure that when the team members arrived, they would have a place to put their packages.

The tribal residents didn’t complain at all—now they genuinely treated Sean as an honored guest.

If it had been before the discovery of the Cave Storehouse today, this effect would hardly have been possible.

But having seen with their own eyes the supplies piled up like mountains in the Cave Storehouse, and thinking about how much profit these could bring to the tribe and improve everyone’s lives, the residents were more than willing to follow Sean’s orders and began to clean up the rooms in the base.

During the break, the residents each took out a pack of individual American man-portable food packages and ate and drank with curiosity and relish—this was indeed a luxury for them.

In the past, even if they captured such goods, they would normally take them to the marketplace to exchange for food or daily necessities, never indulging themselves.

But now, in the Cave Storehouse, these man-portable food packages were available in boxes, and Mr. Hassan generously allowed each person to bring two packages to work.

So, they could eat to their heart’s content. How wonderful life was!

As the night grew darker, several large empty rooms in the base were also tidied up.

The big truck hauled over individual sleeping bags and other nighttime goods from the Cave Storehouse and stacked them there.

When the moon hadn’t yet risen, Elijah Hastings received a notice from Charles Young: the plane would be over the target coordinates in a few minutes.

Zack, who had been waiting by the side, immediately ordered the lighting of the fire piles.

Those guarding the fires immediately poured gasoline on them, and in an instant, the flames soared.

Dozens of fire piles illuminated the runway, and Elijah even used a high brightness lamp at the end of the runway for an additional "touch-up."

A few minutes later, the roar of the airplane came from above.

Looking up, one could see the blinking lights on the plane.

Charles Young could already see the lights on the ground and the runway it illuminated.

This was a test for him.

Fortunately, his foundational skills were still intact, and Charles, without flinching, adjusted direction, aligning the plane’s body as he descended toward the runway.

Ten minutes later, the plane came to a steady stop at the end of the runway.

The cabin doors opened, and one by one, team members filed out and formed lines on the ground.

As Sean and the others approached, the interim team leader immediately reported in formation, crisply and precisely, much to Sean’s liking.
