Chapter 956: 531 is really a hospitable place

Sean Knight could be certain that Elijah Hastings wouldn’t deceive him, let alone collude with others to harm him.

So he trusted Elijah’s judgement.

Sean felt that, deep down, he was still filled with a spirit of adventure. Therefore, when he received that phone call from Elijah, his heart grew restless once again.

Objectively speaking, staying in New York, overseeing his own businesses, and living a sweet life with Joanna Davis was quite wonderful.

This kind of life had once been his dream.

But now that he had money and the means to live such a life, he grew restless with its tranquility.

After discussing it with Kathy Lewis and Joanna, Sean took a flight back to China.

He changed planes twice to get to the south of Xinjiang, then by car he reached Tower County, before making his way to the National Gate.

Once out of the National Gate, he finally saw Clarence Hughes and Elijah Hastings waiting for him.

"Mr. Knight, you’re really quick to act," Clarence Hughes said with admiration.

"Boss! Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper are currently at the tribe," Elijah Hastings said while opening the door for Sean, "We have a pretty good relationship with the tribe. Douglas’s idea is to see if we can do some other kinds of business there."

Sean got into the car, driven by a local.

Clarence sat in the front while Elijah took the seat beside Sean, briefing him on the situation.

"After we arrived, we first met with the tribal residents, then visited the base left behind by the Lighthouse Brigade.

The base is large, and most of the supplies left behind have already been transported away and sold off.

Given the size of the base, there had to be at least 500 people stationed here at the time.

However, after inspection, we found something odd; it didn’t quite seem like a combat army had left it behind, but rather an engineering corps.

From the traces left, it seems there must have been a lot of mining equipment here, and a fair amount of ore processed.

But it must have been taken away or hidden by now."

"Did you look around nearby?" Sean asked.

"There are many mountain gorges nearby." Elijah Hastings took out his mobile phone, showing Sean the photos while explaining, "We conducted searches in the nearby mountainous areas, finding plenty of their activity traces.

But there are too many caves, some old, some newly dug. There are also many traces of disrupted soil that were destroyed.

If we need to start up, the workload would be immense; so far, we haven’t made any discoveries."

As Elijah spoke, there was an undertone of disappointment in his voice; after working hard for so long without finding anything, it was quite a blow to their pride.

After all, this was their first independent treasure hunt since leaving Sean, and they had found nothing at all. Having to ask Sean for assistance was a severe hit to their confidence.

"Actually, Mr. Hastings and his team have done a great job," Clarence Hughes chimed in, "We had already explored the base and its facilities, as well as the surrounding terrain.

But only after Mr. Hastings and his team’s inspection did we realize that so many details we had overlooked were actually significant. You guys are truly professionals."

Elijah Hastings, somewhat embarrassed, smiled and finally said,

"We’ll go take a look once we get there."

The tribe where Hassan Bager lived was not very close to the frontier.

The car was an off-road vehicle, which first took an asphalt road, then passed through a sandstone road, and finally entered the mountain roads in the mountainous area.

The road was bumpy, and there was plenty of dust. Occasionally, you could see farmland where locals were farming.

"This area used to be planted with illegal plants," Clarence Hughes pointed outside the window and said, "Now it’s mostly food crops. Although the United States has been somewhat excessive in some respects, the change in this area within the tribe has been significant."

Sean had heard before that this area had for a long time been used to grow those illegal substances.

It even became one of the top three narcotics-producing locations in the world at one point.

But then, due to various factors, it slowly began to change.

Occasionally, you could see people working in the fields. Others were herding in the mountains. However, the climate here is quite arid, the vegetation on the mountains is scarce, and the few buildings that can be seen are either low sheep pens or dilapidated mud huts.

The scarce greenery, amidst the dominant hue of earthen yellow, gives an overwhelming feeling of desolation.

The car drove through the mountainous area for several hours, and the group of people hastily finished their lunch in the vehicle.

As the sun was about to set, they arrived at a village in the mountains.

Before reaching the entrance of the village, a group of people came out to greet them, and they finally spotted Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper amongst the crowd.

"The two in front, one is the Tribal Elder Cameron Harrison, and the other is Hassan, who frequently engages with us," Clarence Hughes whispered to Sean as they got out of the car.

"Welcome, Mr. Knight, to our guest in our village!" Hassan called out enthusiastically from a distance with open arms.

Sean embraced Hassan and then shook hands with Cameron Harrison.

He could feel that the Tribal Elder Cameron Harrison and the others were not as enthusiastic as Hassan.

A moment’s thought made it clear why.

Clarence Hughes’ earlier visit had not achieved its goals, nor had the subsequent efforts by Elijah and his team.

The locals had been disheartened by these two failures.

Naturally, they harbored doubts about Sean who had come alone.
