Chapter 906: Chapter 514: Sneaking into Danger
Sean Knight and Lincoln Harrington approached the city, using the trees for cover.
The War hadn’t reached here yet, but it was evident that people were in a hurry, with most heading out of the city.
Even those few returning to the city were moving very fast, as if fearing that one slow moment might lead to an irreparable disaster.
Seeing that no one was paying attention to them, Sean and Lincoln became bolder and walked out of the bushes, carrying their backpacks towards the city.
With their different faces and skin tones, plus carrying large backpacks "against the flow," they indeed attracted quite a few glances.
But these people did nothing more than take a few looks before hurrying away.
No one bothered to meddle in their affairs.
Moreover, it was obvious that these two were not to be trifled with.
Lincoln tried to hail a car, but not a single one stopped.
The two of them had no choice but to walk towards the city.
Along the way, they saw many cars rushing out of the city, some dragging heavy furniture, and others pulling along their entire families.
Their eyes were filled with fear, unease, and bafflement.
Sean witnessed these expressions and felt somewhat moved, but not overly so.
He was just a passerby here, unable to manage that much, nor was it his place to do so.
If he could complete his mission and leave the city safely, that would be good enough.
"Boss, we should hide for a bit!" Lincoln suddenly pulled Sean into a shop.
Before entering the shop, Sean glanced ahead and noticed a group of uniformed people dragging away two middle-aged men.
They were speaking the local language, which Sean couldn’t understand.
This was a Clothing Store, mainly selling women’s clothing, with a small section for children’s clothing.
After entering, the two men felt somewhat awkward.
A beautiful girl in the shop was looking at them with a mix of curiosity and caution before speaking a string of words in the local language.
Sean shook his head and said in English,
"We are tourists from out of town, is it okay if we rest here for a bit?"
The girl seemed to hear the noise outside and became nervous, yet she still nodded and said in not-so-fluent English,
"Okay, but not for long, please?"
Sean nodded.
Though the girl was cautious, she was polite enough to pour them two glasses of water and bring them over.
Sean thanked her, took the water, and looked at the clothes in the shop.
The material of the clothes wasn’t top-notch, but they looked pretty nice. The girl was also wearing one of the items from the shop. After a quick glance, Sean inwardly complimented her, recognizing the girl was indeed beautiful.
However, that was all there was to it; next, the noisy sound outside grew louder.
Lincoln’s expression became serious as he stood up, his hand reaching towards the Pistol at his waist.
Clearly nervous, the girl retreated to the cash register, watching the two men, praying they wouldn’t make trouble.
Sean and Lincoln exchanged a glance, neither wanting to cause trouble, but it was clear from outside that there was a "round-up" happening.
If it came to confronting them, they would have to resist.
The noise got louder, and Sean said to Sean,
"Get ready!"
Just then, the girl suddenly offered,
"There is a rest room in the back of my shop, could you use it for a bit?"
Her offer surprised both Sean and Lincoln, but seeing her sincere expression, Sean nodded immediately.
The girl led them to the side of the store, pulled open a mirror, and revealed a small door behind it.
"This is where customers try on clothes, as well as where I rest typically. You can stay here for a while," said the girl, trying to maintain her composure.
Sean and Lincoln looked at each other and went inside.
Sean’s Sky Eye kicked in, revealing the place was merely a small partition within the original shop, just cleverly designed so it wasn’t easy for others to find.
Through the Sky Eye, they could also see outside the shop, where the group was binding a few people and moving forward, occasionally pulling open the doors of shops to take a look inside.
They soon reached the entrance of this Clothing Store.
The girl had already put on a Face mask, watching the outside with some tension.
Two gun-carrying men opened the shop door and walked in.
The girl watched them, not speaking.
"Just you here?" one of them scanned the area and asked.
The other glanced at the clothes, casually picked up a garment as if he found it distasteful, threw it on the ground, and turned to leave.
Without waiting for an answer and without further ado, the other also left.
When the door closed, the girl took a deep breath.
Sean "saw" those two people leave the shop, moved on to the next shop, and only relaxed when they were gone.
Then he watched as they dragged a man out from the next store.
Only after the group had gone far away did Sean and Lincoln come out from hiding.
The girl was still looking nervously at the two of them.
"Thank you," Sean said with a nod, "If it weren’t for you, we might have faced some trouble..."
Indeed, just some Trouble.
There were eight people in that group, and Sean and Lincoln were confident they could resolve the Combat swiftly, but undoubtedly they would have been plunged into significant trouble as a result.
"You’re welcome..." she suddenly said in Chinese and then continued in English,
"One of my classmates was Chinese, but she went back to China two years ago..."
