Chapter 865: Chapter 500: Making Money Can Also Be Indirect

"Wood trading rights?" Dutt was a bit puzzled, "Mr. Knight, could you elaborate on that?"

Sean Knight smiled and said:

"Wasn’t I clear enough? However, to explain, I need you to exchange a certain amount of wood from your territory for this snake."

"How much wood are you looking for?" Dutt’s face relaxed a lot when he realized it was a wood-for-snake trade.

He had feared Sean might make a demanding, painful price offer.

But if it was a trade for wood, Dutt really wasn’t worried.

There’s no end to the amount of wood in the territory, and Dutt never counted on selling it to make money.

To trade timber for a Serpent Deity now would be more than advantageous.

"How much wood do you think your Serpent Deity is worth?" Instead of answering, Sean asked back.

"One... 10,000 logs?" Dutt tentatively offered a number.

He had no concept of how much wood there was in his territory.

Considering the size of his jungle, it must have several million logs.

As for the value of those logs—what value does wood have? It’s always growing, like grass, not worth much money at all!

If he could trade 10,000 logs for a Serpent Deity, then it would indeed be a huge win.

"10,000?" Sean waved his hand and said, "Don’t you think that’s a little low?"

"Then let’s make it 50,000 logs, no more." Dutt had in mind a limit of 100,000 logs.

As long as it didn’t exceed this number, he thought it was acceptable.

After all, the number of trees in the jungle kept growing each year; to him, a few more or less was truly inconsequential.

And the number he quoted was just the count of logs; how to cut them down and transport them was none of his concern.

"Fine, 50,000 logs it is," Sean said generously, "consider it a friendly deal. But you’ll have to handle the export procedures for the wood."

"That’s not a problem, but I won’t manage the cutting and transport of the timber," Dutt clarified at that moment, turning into a shrewd merchant once again as he haggled with Sean.

"You won’t need to worry about that; just have the export procedures ready, and I’ll ship it to Southern Ports." Sean explained, "When the time comes, a boat will take the wood away."

"That would be for the best," Dutt said noncommittally, "Are you planning to send it via sea to China?"

"No, no, no. I have a Big Island in Southeast Asia; I will ship it there. My island isn’t any smaller than this territory of yours."

Sean "casually" showed his strength, which truly made Dutt apprehensive.

Ordinary Chinese People and a Chinese person who could own a Big Island had different levels of influence on Dutt.

"All right, shall we sign a contract?" Dutt asked, "It would make it more official."

"Certainly," Sean responded, "Specifically, when the time comes, it won’t be me handling this matter, but my people will come with the contract to oversee the handover and cutting, I hope Mr. Dutt will still make things convenient at that time."

"That’s definitely not a problem." Seeing the deal was about to close and the Serpent Deity was nearly in hand, Dutt was very happy:

"May I take a look at the snake now?"

"Of course!"

James Ross led Dutt to Elijah’s room.

"Elijah, get the snake out for Mr. Dutt to have a look," he said.

"Okay, just a moment," Elijah said as he took out a bottle from his luggage, "This snake’s vitality is quite strong; it hasn’t eaten well these past few days but is still full of life."

Seeing the constrained Serpent Deity trapped in the bottle, Dutt blinked, wanting to erupt with anger but finding no reason to do so.

He took the bottle and examined the double-headed green snake carefully.

Indeed, both the heads and the body were exactly like the Serpent Deity worshipped in his House.

When the snake saw Dutt, both heads turned to look at him.

With the gaze of four snake eyes upon him, Dutt felt the indifference, as well as the condescension of a higher being looking down upon a lesser one.

Even though the double-headed green snake was in the bottle, the way it looked made it seem as if Dutt was the captive, not the snake.

"Mr. Knight, let’s sign the contract now." Unable to bear the gaze any longer, Dutt turned abruptly, firmly saying to Sean:

"I can hardly wait to complete this transaction."

"Good, I hope so too."

Sean was happy.

50,000 logs! In this jungle, there was a wealth of precious wood, especially phoebe zhennan and rosewood.

Even if just half, no, one-third of those were the more precious woods, James could drive down their prices on the international market!

And there were many more valuable species in the jungle than just phoebe zhennan and rosewood.

Now, with Dutt’s words, Sean was almost certain that he would take a place in the international timber market.

He couldn’t wait to have Lana set up a wood processing base on the Big Island.

Such matters were better done there.

Recently, there have been quite a few restrictions domestically, but on the Big Island, he would have the final say.

Eagerly, Dutt signed the contract with James and used his private seal, and Sean delightedly let Elijah hand over the snake to Dutt.

The procedures for the transaction were thus completed.

"Boss, what did you trade the snake for?" Elijah curiously asked back in the room.

"Not much, not much," Sean said with a smile.
