Chapter 864: Chapter 499: Not Afraid of Your Demands, Just Afraid You Won’t Speak Up! _3
They left by walking directly out of the graveyard and through the jungle, so HarudaTomoko didn’t have a clue that all the Buddha statues carved from valuable wood inside the temple had disappeared.
Or rather, they were taken away by certain people.
It took about ten days to get there, but less than five days to return.
Gru Devon played a significant role in this.
Although he was not the most prominent among the four guides, he had a good grasp of the general layout of the jungle on Dutt Rivera’s land. They took some detours along the way but eventually returned to Dutt’s Manor without incident.
Dutt was not there, but the butler knew that Sean Knight and his companions were Dutt’s honored guests and warmly received them.
After spending half a month in the jungle, they all felt as if they were starting to rot. Now that they had returned to the Manor, it felt like paradise; each person cleanly washed up in their own room and then took a well-deserved sleep.
Sean Knight and Cheryl Suweton were arranged in the same room. Both being full of energy, they took advantage of the opportunity to rest and engaged in some strenuous activity together. After they felt refreshed, they came out together.
Dutt was already back, and at that moment, he was listening to Gru Devon’s report.
"You’re saying they found three ruin sites and ultimately found those treasures?"
After hearing Gru’s report, Dutt asked again, "Was it pythons that caused the death of the other guides, not a setup by them?"
"Yes." Gru nodded earnestly, "Actually, Mr. Knight wanted to come back to save our boss, but the boss was a bit too confident and didn’t want to listen to Mr. Knight, and then..."
Dutt had no doubt about Gru’s loyalty—as a servant who had served his family for generations, he was unlikely to betray him.
It’s just that these people were not very smart, and that’s why Dutt wanted to confirm the process several times over.
"Alright. So that’s all the treasures they found?"
The amount of items Sean Knight and the others brought back was limited; after all, upon returning from the jungle, there’s only so much one can carry in a backpack—it seemed unlikely that there could be more.
Unless there were too many items to carry back.
"Only that much... but..."
Gru thought about it and decided to tell about the snake:
"Mr. Knight caught a double-headed green snake that bears a strong resemblance to our worshipped Serpent Deity, almost identical..."
"What?" Dutt grabbed Gru by the collar and asked loudly:
"What did you say? Divine Serpent? How is that possible?"
"I saw it with my own eyes..." Gru hurried to explain, "It’s true, absolutely certain, not just seen by me alone, and moreover, Mr. Knight has brought that snake... the Divine Serpent back!"
"Brought it back?" Dutt was stunned for a moment and then immediately turned to leave; he needed to find Sean Knight and ask him.
Even though he graduated from university and studied science, Dutt was well aware of the importance of the existence of the Serpent Deity to the native people in the prince state!
He must keep this thing in his hands; otherwise, if it falls into the hands of someone with ulterior motives, his wealth might be at risk!
As Dutt came out, Sean Knight and Cheryl Suweton were just coming out, taking a stroll in the Manor’s garden, and they first encountered HarudaTomoko.
HarudaTomoko looked somewhat pale. Sean didn’t ask, but Cheryl did:
"Miss Haruda, what’s wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell?"
"It’s nothing..." HarudaTomoko forced a smile and said, "Not sure if it’s the injury I got while traveling or something else, but the wound feels a bit uncomfortable... It should be fine."
"Have the Manor’s doctor look at it, or better yet, go check in a professional hospital," Sean suggested, "Back in the jungle, we only managed simple treatment, and that level of care may not entirely rule out danger..."
HarudaTomoko knew what Sean said was true, but she hesitated and said:
"I’ll wait for Dutt to return and settle things before dealing with it. A day or two should not make a difference."
Just then, Dutt hurried over.
"Dutt, you’re back?" HarudaTomoko exclaimed with surprise, "I’m so happy to see you..."
As she said this, she moved towards Dutt, apparently intending to embrace him.
However, Dutt’s target was clearly not HarudaTomoko. He gave her a perfunctory nod and then bypassed her to approach Sean Knight, glanced at Cheryl Suweton, and asked:
"Mr. Knight, can we discuss a matter privately?"
Sean looked at Cheryl Suweton and was about to say it wasn’t necessary, but Cheryl tactfully let go of Sean’s hand, laughing and moving towards HarudaTomoko, suggesting:
"You have your discussions, we’ve been in the jungle too long. It will be good to relax here and take a walk."
Saying this, she walked away with HarudaTomoko.
"Go ahead, speak," Sean said, "What’s the matter?"
"About that snake..." Dutt hesitated for a moment, afraid that Sean would ask for a lot, but this matter was too important—he had to get the snake under his control before he lost it.
"You mean the two-headed snake? It’s currently with me. Alive," Sean already knew what Dutt was most concerned about.
"So... I want to buy that snake," Dutt knew he had to show sincerity at this moment, "I’ll transfer my share of the treasures to you, how about that?"
"No, no, no," Sean waved his hand, "I think the value of that snake exceeds that of the treasures. I am not short of gold and gemstones, but such a two-headed snake is incredibly rare..."
Dutt knew Sean would ask for a high price but hadn’t expected that Sean would disregard the treasures entirely!
"Then what do you want?" Dutt asked, "Whatever I can offer here, we can discuss!"
"That makes it easy," Sean said smiling; there was indeed much to discuss!
"I want the trading rights to the wood in this jungle," Sean said, "This wood is just sitting here otherwise; it’s better to find a way to sell it, don’t you think?"
