Chapter 863: Chapter 499: Not Afraid of Your Demands, Just Afraid You Won’t Speak Up! _2

Although the box wasn’t large, based on her experience, she estimated that these items were worth at least several hundred thousand US dollars!

With just a few boxes of this kind, they would hit the jackpot in this profession!

However, looking further, she found that there was only one such box.

There were other boxes nearby, and Haruda Tomoko, ignoring her wounds, stepped forward and vigorously opened their lids.

The lids of these boxes weren’t sealed completely; upon opening them, she discovered with disappointment that they contained military notes and paper currency.

They were already worthless!

"Damn it!"

Tomoko couldn’t help but curse, kicking the wooden box.

Though she knew that getting angry was not appropriate at the moment, the thought of enduring so much only to wind up with so little made her feel extremely aggrieved!

Noticing that everyone was looking at her, Tomoko said awkwardly:

"It’s just... I can’t accept it! I didn’t expect our final gain to be so little..."

"It’s already quite a bit," Sean said lightly. "But this isn’t the end; with so many grave mounds outside, who can say whether there aren’t other cave entrances..."

"Right, right!" Tomoko immediately snapped alert, "We can keep looking!"

None of the tools and weapons had been touched; the people who had descended just divided and carried out the box of gold and jewelry.

Next, Tomoko truly disregarded her wounds, taking an iron crowbar and began to probe the grave mounds.

Sean, watching Tomoko’s determined efforts, thought it was best not to alert her.

In all likelihood, these grave mounds contained the remains of her great grandfather’s group.

If those old Japanese soldiers knew from the underworld that their own descendants were digging up their graves, what would they think?

Therefore, Sean decided generously not to mention this to her.

Tomoko was not foolish; she did not ask to dig up every grave mound but instead used an iron crowbar to probe each grave mound.

If she encountered a real grave, the coffin would give a clear indication with a single strike, and there would be no need to dig further. If she encountered an iron cover like the one before, she would feel it, making the process much more efficient.

Sean and Elijah Hastings organized their backpacks, setting aside the treasures they had found to prevent them from getting damaged.

Then Sean slowly moved forward, scrutinizing the area; after a sweep, he did not find any other signs of secret underground chambers.

It seemed that those Japanese soldiers had already done quite a job transporting these treasures.

Sean guessed that there must have been more than one squad of such Japanese soldiers at that time, but exactly where the rest might be now was hard to say.

They worked until nightfall, and Tomoko found several grave mounds that might have potentially hidden secrets, but upon digging them up, it turned out they truly contained skeletons, just with thicker coffin boards.

As night fell, they retreated to the last main hall they had encountered to rest.

Elijah and the others, including Gru Devon, took turns standing night watch; Sean, meanwhile, took a long walk around the temple ruins and collected several phoebe zhennan Buddha statues from various Buddha halls, making for a significant haul.

That night, they also planned to see if the fleeing monk would sneak back, but fortunately, the night passed uneventfully, with no one showing up.

The second day, the exploration continued. Tomoko was eager to have Sean join them in searching for secret chambers in the graveyard because she knew that the previous chamber had been discovered by Sean.

But Sean didn’t pay any attention to her hints, and after breakfast, he strolled off to the temple.

Cheryl Suweton had originally planned to join Sean for a walk, but Tomoko kept holding onto her.

As the employer, Cheryl felt it unsuitable to leave Tomoko to indulge in romance, so she reluctantly joined in the tedious task.

The exploration lasted for three days in total; all the grave mounds were probed, and the pagoda forest was thoroughly searched as well, ensuring that the spirits of those monks and Japanese soldiers could not rest in peace.

When Sean returned in the evening, Elijah handed him a package.

"What’s this?" Sean asked.

"Most likely Buddha’s relics," Elijah whispered. "We found them in the pagoda forest. And you know what, Tomoko is ruthless—she didn’t spare a single one! Although she didn’t find any treasure, she did find quite a few of these things."

Sean looked at the small package containing colored pebbles the size of pigeon eggs and some as small as broad beans, feeling somewhat speechless.

"Boss, just take them," Elijah said with a smile. "You never know when they might come in handy."

"And you guys?"

"You know us; we’re not interested in this kind of thing," Elijah chuckled. "It’s not what we believe in."

Sean, without being pretentious, took the little bag and said with a smile:

"I’ve heard lately that singing revolutionary songs can definitely drive away negative energy whenever you’re feeling down, making you blood-pumping and spirited. Is that why you guys seem to lack negative energy all the time—is that the reason?"

"Absolutely!" Elijah laughed. "We don’t know about that theory, but when we sing military songs, we really aren’t afraid of anything, and it feels like no issue is a big deal."

The next day, the group left the temple and began their journey back.

Tomoko looked back at the temple ruins with reluctance, feeling that the treasures brought by her great grandfather must be more than those they found.

But since they couldn’t find any more, and their supplies were almost depleted, staying wasn’t an option.

"I will come back!" Tomoko swore to herself. "I have to find all of the remaining treasures, including those phoebe zhennan Buddha statues!"
