Chapter 862: Chapter 499: Not Afraid of Your Demands, Just Afraid You Won’t Speak Up!
Sean Knight’s gaze was fixed on those books, while Haruda Tomoko’s attention had fallen on the valuable goods before her.
These are clearly valuable items!
If it weren’t for Sean and his team being present, she probably would have started packing these items by now.
Sean picked up one of the books and flipped through it, discovering it was indeed purely Buddhist Scriptures.
Then he picked up another and found it to be Buddhist Scriptures as well.
In the third book, Sean came upon a section about meditation and cultivation techniques. There were annotations—likely left by the Old Monk.
However, Sean quickly became disappointed.
The Old Monk had recorded a short passage, mainly about his hypnosis technique, with the most crucial part being inherited from a certain wine goblet-shaped Happy Buddha.
The Buddha was missing a piece, and when the Old Monk was studying it, he had left it by his bed. One night while meditating, he accidentally touched it and mysteriously gained a new ability.
Since it was incomplete, the Old Monk had researched extensively but was never able to find the complete version. He did, however, find some medicine powder in other Buddhist Scriptures and documents that complemented it.
The annotation recorded just this small excerpt, and as for the Happy Buddha, Sean looked around and realized it was not here.
His disappointment was only slight, and soon he put the books down.
"Let’s organize the items here, pack them up, and then we’ll go check out other places," Sean mentioned, and immediately Elijah and the others began to tidy up.
Seeing how Haruda Tomoko was intently staring at the goods, Sean said with a laugh:
"Everything here is documented, and we’ll distribute it when we get back—of course, we can distribute it now too."
He and his people had been the main force along the way, so naturally, he held the authority in his own hands.
Even if those items were left in Haruda Tomoko’s hands, she wouldn’t be able to keep them safe. It would be more secure to have them in Elijah and the others’ backpacks.
Haruda Tomoko understood that even if she took the items now, she wouldn’t be able to take them out of the jungle—now if they were divided, Sean would have every reason not to take her out with him.
Better to sincerely act as the employer!
"Of course, you guys should keep them," said Haruda Tomoko with a smile. "Look at me now, how could I possibly carry these items? I’ll have to trouble you."
Once everything was packed up, Sean glanced at the large Buddha statue, then walked out.
Haruda Tomoko also looked at the large Buddha, thinking that if she could get out, she would find a way to come back and take the statue with her.
After exiting, the group continued their search and soon arrived at the location of the pagoda forest.
"We were here before when the monks ambushed us," Sean pointed to a few monks lying on the ground, still unattended. "They ambushed us, but we managed a counterambush."
Now, a layer of flies had already gathered on the bodies of the monks, and some of them had small maggots crawling out of their wounds.
"Boss, over there..." Elijah came over and gestured.
Sean understood his intent; Elijah was alluding to whether or not to bring Haruda and her companions to the unexplored cave.
Sean figured since he had already taken the lion’s share, there probably wouldn’t be much left in the cave.
Besides, with the spatial realm at his disposal, it was easy to cheat the system. He said:
"Let’s go and have a look."
While walking, he informed Cheryl Suweton:
"Up ahead, we once dug out a cave entrance. We hadn’t explored it because the Old Monk led us away."
When Haruda Tomoko heard about the cave entrance, she was incredibly excited. Clutching her wounded abdomen, she hurried forward.
Cheryl too was thrilled; essentially their journey ended here, and the cave ahead likely represented the ultimate harvest of this trip. How could she not be excited?
Arriving at the location of the uncovered grave mound and looking down at the cave entrance, Sean instructed:
"Douglas, you and Gru keep watch up top. The rest of us will go down and take a look."
"Yes, boss!" Douglas Cooper nodded.
Gru, feeling nothing amiss, nodded back at Sean and went on to guard.
Elijah led the way, with Sean following, then Cheryl Suweton, Haruda Tomoko, and finally Lincoln Harrington, as the group descended the stairs and headed into the cave to explore.
At the bottom of the stairs and after walking about a dozen steps forward, they encountered an iron gate.
Due to the moisture underground, the gate had rusted over.
From the looks of the iron gate, it appeared no one had been there for a long time.
"Boss, should we pry it open?" Elijah inquired.
"Pry it open," said Sean as he activated Sky Eye. Observing the inside, he confirmed that the contents were indeed as he had guessed—not much, and quite a mess.
Elijah pried open the lock on the iron gate, pulled it open, and shone a flashlight inside.
"Be careful," Sean cautioned.
The group entered the warehouse and saw what was inside.
Near the entrance were several boxes with their wooden lids open, firearms and tools scattered within.
Further inside, there were some strewn books, but these books had practically rotted away in the damp environment.
Sean picked up a book, finding it impossible to open; it had completely decayed.
In her impatience, Haruda Tomoko showed no interest in the things outside. She glanced around and immediately walked further inside.
Finally, she saw what she wanted to see.
Inside a wooden box with a half-closed lid, a pile of gold jewelry and accessories shimmered under the glow of the flashlight.
