Chapter 854: Chapter 496: Amazing Hypnosis!_2
Because the walls on both sides are relatively high, it’s hard to discern any change in the color of the soil without looking closely.
Elijah Hastings examined carefully and discovered a spot about the size of a washbasin where the soil was relatively moist, but it was not noticeable unless one looked closely.
"Be careful, there might be something nasty buried underneath there!" Sean Knight warned seriously. "It could be something the Old Monk buried when we weren’t here just now."
Upon hearing this, Douglas Cooper immediately slung his gun over his shoulder, pulled out a dagger, went to that spot, squatted down, and gently scraped away the soil.
"Damn it! Landmines! Old-fashioned mines!" As he removed a layer of topsoil, Douglas couldn’t help but curse aloud, "Damn it, who the hell planted this..."
"Disarm it," Sean said, glancing around. Sky Eye’s visual range was limited, and he still couldn’t see where people might be hiding.
"Why bother disarming it? Can’t we just leave it here?" Douglas asked, disarming it all the while.
"What if Lincoln Harrington and the others walk over here later?" Elijah answered for Sean.
Just as he finished speaking, Elijah’s expression suddenly became stern, and he shot a short burst fire towards the end of the road ahead!
Sean was originally looking to the side, but upon hearing the gunshot, he immediately looked over and saw a figure with a gun at the corner. However, that person ducked behind the wall the moment Elijah shot.
Clearly, that person had intended to ambush Douglas.
"Bang, bang, bang!" Sean also raised his gun and fired at the retreating figure, but the person was too alert and managed to escape.
Elijah began to chase, but Sean quickly called out to him:
"Don’t chase, let’s go together later!"
He was afraid that if Elijah went alone, he might fall into a trap, which would spell trouble.
Elijah halted, but his gaze became even more vigilant.
Two minutes later, Douglas stood up and said:
"Old mines from World War II, actually pretty simple to dismantle, just rusty, a bit of a hassle."
"Come on, let’s catch up!" Sean, standing atop the wall, commanded from a superior position, "They shouldn’t have gotten far!"
He had already deduced that the other side was using a Type 38 rifle typical of the World War II period, which further confirmed that the treasure and the great grandfather mentioned by Haruda Tomoko must be here.
By the time the three of them reached the corner, there was no sign of anyone.
Of course, this was expected, so Sean and his team didn’t rush but continued their methodical search.
Tracks on the ground became much clearer, perhaps because the person had fled in a hurry, resulting in distinct footprints on the ground.
Sean was even more cautious, realizing that the Monk with the gun was not the same one who had attacked Elijah before.
Inside the Temple, there was clearly more than one person!
Moving forward, they came upon the main hall with a ground of blue bricks. Douglas and Elijah noticed that the footprints had vanished.
"Boss, could they be inside here?"
Scanning with Sky Eye, Sean chuckled coldly:
"They should be..."
"Then let’s search!" Douglas, gun in hand, immediately attempted to break in.
He felt keener than ordinary people and, with his wealth of experience and confidence, he was not afraid.
"Wait a moment." Sean slid his hand to his waist, coming out with a can of tear gas in hand. He popped the fuse and threw the canister inside!
Elijah had already noticed that the doors to the front and back of the hall were open, and during this time he had circled to the backdoor.
He planned to trap his prey in an enclosed pot!
After the tear gas was thrown, a stimulant gas spread with the smoke.
Sean, with the help of Sky Eye, was completely unaffected; he could see clearly that two Monks, one with a gun and the other with a hand grenade, were hiding behind the Buddha Statue in the main hall, ready to attack anyone who entered!
At that moment, Douglas also realized there was something fishy about the hall and raised his gun, ready for action.
Even though he couldn’t see because of the smoke, he could hear suppressed coughing from inside—definitely his target!
Since the opposition had already attacked Elijah, Sean and Douglas now saw these individuals as enemies.
With enemies, it’s kill or be killed, no place for pity or hesitation.
The coughing grew louder, followed by gunshots inside!
A hand grenade was thrown from within. Douglas and Elijah calmly dodged, and it exploded with a boom on the blue brick ground in front of the main hall.
After the explosion, both men quickly emerged from where they took cover at the corner of the hall, just in time to see a Monk stumbling out of the temple with his hand over his mouth.
"Bang, bang!"
Douglas reacted swiftly, taking aim and firing; the Monk fell to the ground, a hand grenade clutched in his hand, but he was too late to pull the pin.
Gunshots also rang out in the backyard, but they ceased after just one exchange.
"Elijah, how is it?"
"Clear! One target down!" Elijah shouted back.
"Good, one down here too. Stay alert! Now, into the main hall!"
After shouting, Sean looked around again and proceeded into the hall.
Douglas approached the Monk, removed the grenade, and seeing the pin was still intact, pocketed it. He then searched the Monk, found nothing but tattered clothes, and followed Sean into the main hall.
The main hall didn’t honor a typical Buddha but rather featured a Buddhist Fighter like Camel Ve.
