Chapter 851: Chapter 495: There’s a Monk Who’s No Ordinary!_2
It’s a pity I can only think about it.
After eating, everyone had mostly packed up, and by then, Cheryl Suweton and Haruda Tomoko were already studying the bag of green jade discs together.
Unlike Cheryl, who merely found the items pretty, Haruda Tomoko — a woman from Japan — was well-versed in the jade culture, having been educated in the traditionally adapted culture that originated in China during the Sui and Tang Dynasties.
So, in her eyes, it was as if she was looking at a sky full of stars.
She was just short of asking Cheryl, "Why don’t you give these jade pieces to me?"
However, Cheryl wasn’t foolish. Sean Knight had excavated them with great effort underground and specifically entrusted them to her. Even if she didn’t know their value, she wouldn’t just give them away to someone else.
Thus, despite Haruda Tomoko hinting subtly and overtly a few times, Cheryl simply ignored her.
"Alright, we’ve pretty much covered the village, let’s move on," Sean Knight said, shouldering his backpack, "Let’s go. We don’t want to have to deal with those snakes again."
Haruda Tomoko had some objections since they hadn’t thoroughly searched the village.
But as soon as she heard Sean Knight mention the possibility of the snakes returning en masse, she immediately stopped objecting, picked up her backpack, and followed the team.
Elijah Hastings handed the snakes over to Sean Knight, and worked with Guide Gru on scouting ahead, while Douglas Cooper and Lincoln Harrington brought up the rear.
Though Gru wasn’t the leader of the guides, he knew the road ahead after discussing it with the other guides, so there was no pressure in leading the way.
They encountered sporadic snakes outside the village.
However, whether it was because their morale had been weakened by the previous snake battle or because they were isolated, these snakes would dart into the bushes and escape upon seeing people.
Given the snake infestation, everyone proceeded cautiously. Luckily, they didn’t encounter any large wild animals, and there were few dangers.
Two days later, they arrived at a lakeside.
"This is the target area," Gru cooperated exceptionally well at this point. He realized that Sean Knight and his companions were not as greedy or malicious as his boss had described.
They were simply here to search for items and didn’t disturb the environment or disregard his beliefs. They also treated him politely.
And that was already quite commendable.
Gru thought that he needed to have a good talk with Dutt Rivera once he got back and tell him that these treasure hunters were indeed quite decent.
He knew his words carried little weight, but these people had the Divine Serpent!
Presumably, Dutt Rivera would be very interested as well!
"This lake was once part of a temple. The water in the lake rose over time, submerging most of the temple, and then the place was deserted," Gru was familiar with the location, having been sent here as a guide, "The monks all left."
"When did this happen? Where did the monks go?" Sean Knight asked.
"More than thirty years ago?" Gru squinted, reminiscing, "Some monks set off to build a new temple elsewhere, some went to other temples, and others returned to secular life."
Gru came well prepared. While Dutt Rivera seemed to have casually chosen four men, at least he had gathered intelligence from Haruda Tomoko’s side before sending these well-informed guides.
Haruda Tomoko was slow to catch on, but Sean Knight had figured it out early on.
But with the green snake in hand and having acquired even better treasures in his spatial realm, Sean Knight thought he might be able to coax some advantages from Dutt Rivera.
As for Haruda Tomoko, he would leave it to fate.
Though the lake seemed small, it was quite large if one were to walk around it. Thus, upon arriving, Sean Knight decided to set up camp first and prepare before proceeding.
To prevent another attack by snakes or other wild animals, the camp was not only set up on relatively high ground, but a trench was also dug around it.
Elijah and his team sprinkled anti-colic powder in the trench. Gru went into the forest to find some insect-repelling herbs to add to the trench, making it a simple defensive line.
Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper cut and sharpened tree branches to create traps in the trench against stealthy beasts.
After all these arrangements, Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper started preparing food.
Among the three men following Sean Knight, Lincoln always played the role of the cook and the driver, although occasionally acting as a sniper didn’t count.
Although there were two women in the team, relying on them for food meant they would probably have to wait until tomorrow.
Gru conscientiously hunted down a deer from the jungle. There weren’t too many carnivorous animals in the jungle, so these small herbivores were still available.
Douglas Cooper also caught two fish weighing three to four kilograms each by the lakeside, making the meal quite rich overall.
As they ate fish prepared Xinjiang-style, Sean Knight said,
"After we eat, let’s rest a bit, and then go out to pinpoint the temple’s location. Once found, signal the others. If anything happens, send a signal immediately and be careful."
Most people felt sleepy after eating. This was mainly because digestive activity required a large quantity of blood.
Since the body’s blood supply is limited, some of the blood normally supplied to the brain would be redirected, causing the brain to feel sleepy due to a temporary shortage of blood.
Of course, it’s not always like this, but it happens to most people.
