Chapter 849: Chapter 494 There Are Good Items Underground!_3

Cheryl Suweton also liked the snake, but she was more concerned about Sean Knight in the cave interior.

Crouching at the cave entrance, she looked down anxiously, even though she couldn’t see anything.

On the contrary, Elijah Hastings and his two companions weren’t worried at all; they knew that if Sean said it was safe, it must be safe.

When in doubt, ask the boss; if the boss was undecided, then there was something to worry about.

If the boss was certain about something, then just believe it. This had been proven by many facts.

Guide Gru Devon was constantly packing up the belongings of the other guides.

He disassembled other people’s items, collected the useful ones together, put them into a large backpack, and then took out one item from each person’s package to carry on his person.

These were to be returned to the families of the guides afterwards.

Then he ran out, placed the bodies of the guide leader and another companion together, conducted a small ceremony, and then buried them in the soil.

After he had done all this and returned, HarudaTomoko was still huddled next to Elijah Hastings, looking at the snake.

Previously, Gru hadn’t noticed the snake—his attention had been wholly focused on how to deal with his compatriots.

Now, with just a glance at the snake, Gru froze.

"The god... the Serpent Deity..." Gru suddenly exclaimed, then thumped onto his knees before Elijah Hastings, bowing repeatedly to the snake.

This action completely confused Elijah. It took him a moment to realize that Gru was bowing to the snake in his hand.

"You mean, this is your Serpent Deity?" Elijah asked incredulously, "Is there such a god?"

"Yes. The Serpent Deity we worship at home looks just like this!" Gru steadied himself a bit after being asked by Elijah, still looking at the snake with a reverent expression.

Elijah felt this was a bit strange; his boss was somewhat impressive, wasn’t he? Just by catching any snake, it turned out to be someone else’s Serpent Deity!

So what kind of good items could they salvage from the cave?

Gru was actually also a bit stunned.

He was sure that the Serpent Deity worshipped in Dutt Rivera’s Manor was exactly the same as the green snake in front of him.

Having thought that the Serpent Deity was just a weird legend from the past, he never expected to see the real thing!

Considering Dutt’s fondness for the Serpent Deity, the treasures they were looking for this time must be related to this, right?

Gru was educated and could speak English. He had his own interpretation of gods and such.

Although he believed in gods, he wasn’t ignorant.

But now, reality was overturning his understanding.

So looking at the snake, he was confused. Should he believe in god, or in the snake?

Then he saw one of the snake’s heads slowly turning towards him.

The look in the snake’s eyes was full of disregard for him, just like the statue of the Serpent Deity in Dutt’s Manor, filled with the contempt of a superior being for an inferior one!

Gru, who had just stood up, thumped to his knees again.

Even though the snake’s head had turned away, he didn’t dare to stand up again!

It was too frightening!

Elijah Hastings did not prevent or interfere with Gru’s behavior. He respected the Indian’s choice, as he wasn’t one of his own compatriots.

On the other hand, HarudaChika kept glancing between Gru and the green snake, her eyes spinning as she pondered some scheme.

Douglas Cooper and Elijah Hastings were both cutting the softer part of the lingzhi downward.

This task, which seemed very easy for the two of them, now appeared quite difficult.

Firstly, the lingzhi seemed alive, dodging and shrinking away as they began to cut, making the task considerably tougher.

This shrinking meant it wasn’t easy to apply force. And while it might look like Sean was able to effortlessly rip off a piece earlier, actually cutting it was like using a dull knife to cut meat, tough and unyielding.

Both men were patient nonetheless, slowly sawing and cutting, spending nearly one hour to finally sever the piece.

Douglas Cooper took an empty backpack which Gru had freed up, then took out a piece of clothing from his own backpack to wrap the lingzhi, and then placed it inside the backpack.

It was at this moment that HarudaTomoko came over and asked:

"What are you guys taking? Why does it feel soft?"

"Don’t know," Douglas Cooper maintained enough caution with this Japanese woman.

Saving someone in danger was humanitarian; now being rather indifferent was just a trait of a Chinese soldier.

HarudaTomoko tried to touch it, but Douglas Cooper didn’t give her the opportunity, packed the item into his backpack, and carried it on his back.

Clearly, he didn’t plan to put it down.

Lincoln Harrington, understanding the unspoken agreement, took Douglas’s former backpack, found a tote to transfer the items into, and set it aside.

That way, it was clear that when it was time to leave, Douglas only had to carry one and wear the other. As for safety, that was Lincoln’s responsibility.

The complicity among the several people disheartened HarudaTomoko, but she quickly figured it out.

The core of this group was Sean Knight. As long as she could handle Sean, or maintain a close relationship with him, most of what she had in mind could likely be realized.

After all, those people seemed to listen to Sean’s every command, even blindly believing in him to some extent.

At this moment, Sean was inside the underground cave, not caring why the cave interior was different from the corridor—where the corridor was humid and hot, the cave had a cool breeze.

He also didn’t care why the cave walls were wooden, like the hollow lingzhi.

His gaze was fixed intently on a shallow pit in the center of the cave—where a bit of green gleamed subtly.

Sean’s Sky Eye was already open, and he could see clearly that it was a crown on top of a snake’s head!

And below ground, a jade snake with two heads, two meters tall, with one-third of its tail touching the ground and standing upright, was there!

Even though it was buried in soil, through Sean’s Sky Eye, the Jade Snake exuded a subtle majesty, as if it would come to life once excavated!

How could there be such a thing inside here?

While puzzled, Sean stepped forward, took out a shovel and began to dig!

No matter what, this was a great find!
