Chapter 836: Chapter 490: Having Trouble Distinguishing Between the Big and Small Kings!_2

He decided to take Cheryl back via a different direction, partly as a recon and partly to avoid backtracking the same path.

Five minutes into their return journey, upon reaching a relatively spacious area that Sean Knight thought might be where the servants of the gods gathered, he suddenly halted.

"What’s wrong?" Cheryl sensed the change in Sean’s mood and whispered.

"There are some... traces here..." Sean Knight looked around; he had activated Sky Eye but didn’t see any living creatures.

Slightly relieved, he said to Cheryl:

"Turn your flashlight over here... look, what is this?"

Following his direction, Cheryl shone her flashlight at the indicated spot.

"What is this... left by something?" Cheryl was startled by the sight as well!

The low wall had been rubbed to a smooth finish, and the damp grassland below it showed clear drag marks.

Although these marks seemed old, their size was noticeably large and didn’t appear to be man-made.

More like an animal’s doing!

"Forest Python!" Sean Knight confirmed, "There’s a giant Forest Python nearby, this area isn’t safe, let’s get out of here quickly!"

No sooner had he and Cheryl taken a few steps than Cheryl screamed again!

She saw ahead, not far off, a white creature with a diameter of forty centimeters and stretching more than ten meters long, lying across their path!

Cheryl’s scream quickly brought over Elijah Hastings and the guide trailing behind, both of whom ran over with Elijah loudly asking:

"Boss, is everything alright?"

"It’s fine, it’s just skin shed by a Forest Python." Sean Knight waved his hand and then reassured Cheryl, "Use your flashlight to check it out; it’s just the skin of a Forest Python, not the real thing!"

Cheryl then mustered the courage to look and indeed found it was only python skin.

However, the size of this python skin was rather large and terrifying!

"Shit!" Elijah too was shocked upon arriving, "Boss, that thing is massive, isn’t it? If it ate people, wouldn’t it swallow them whole in a single bite?"

"This place isn’t safe, should we camp somewhere else?" Lincoln Harrington suggested cautiously.

"Yes." Sean Knight nodded, "Let’s go back and discuss it with the Guide."

The guide who had darted over also noticed the sight, but he merely glanced at it and, without paying much attention to Sean and his group, ran off again.

Sean Knight and several others rolled up the Forest Python’s skin they had found. He noticed the skin must have been shed not long ago, as it hadn’t weathered and could still be useful.

It looked big, but once rolled up, it was only as much as a tent, easily carried by one person.

Back at camp, Sean knight found the guide’s Leader and advised:

"We found traces of Forest Python activity inside the Ruin Site, it’s unsafe here; I suggest we find a different place to camp."

"I’ll go have a look." The lead guide was not entirely convinced; he had already heard the report from the guide that had returned first and now needed to confirm it for himself.

HarudaTomoko saw the Forest Python skin that Sean Knight’s group was carrying. At first, she didn’t find it intimidating, but when Elijah unfolded the skin, her face turned white!

In this quiet Forest, such a huge creature existed!

Could they even stay here?

She was already considering aborting the mission!

After about fifteen minutes, the Guide returned and seeing HarudaTomoko standing with Sean Knight’s group, he said:

"Don’t be nervous; indeed, there were signs of Forest Python activity here, but that was a long time ago, at least one month. We haven’t seen any recent traces; the Forest Python must have moved on to hunt elsewhere. We should be safe here."

With those words, HarudaTomoko breathed a sigh of relief. Sean wanted to say something, but the Guide motioned:

"Rest up, we’re going to explore the Relic tomorrow, and time is tight. Men will stand guard at night, stay sharp."

After that, he didn’t pay any more attention to Sean Knight and went to discuss things with his peers.

Sean Knight and the others could clearly feel the Guides’ disdain for them; it was apparent they thought he was being overly cautious.

Although the night shrouded their facial expressions, Sean and the group saw the look clearly.

Douglas Cooper was irritated and about to say something, but Sean in motion gestured:

"No need to argue with them; this is their domain. We just have to ensure our safety."

He then went to his backpack, took out a small package, and handed it to Elijah:

"Divide these up during the watch later. They’ll come in handy if things get serious!"

Realizing they were Guns and Bullets, Elijah grinned and said, "Don’t worry, boss, take it easy tonight."

Sean didn’t fuss; not having to stand guard was rather nice.

After a short while in the tent, Cheryl crawled in as well.

But she refrained from any overly enthusiastic actions, and Sean guessed she must have been frightened by the snake skin and had come seeking a sense of security.

"I’m starting to regret taking this job." Cheryl hugged Sean’s arm and closed her eyes, "I didn’t expect it to be so dangerous..."

"We haven’t even encountered the danger yet." Sean almost laughed; he remembered this girl wasn’t usually so timid!

"It’s the uncertainty that scares me! To think of such a huge snake, the thought of being constricted, unable to break free... being swallowed whole..."

Cheryl’s voice quavered as she spoke.

"Don’t be afraid. If it does show up, it’ll just mean more Meat on the plate for tomorrow." Sean spoke lightly, and Cheryl chose to believe him, slowly falling asleep in his arms.
