Chapter 835: Chapter 490: Having Trouble Distinguishing Between the Big and Small Kings!
After his meal, Sean Knight reminded Cheryl Suweton to rest well in the tent, then stood up with the intention to take a look inside the Relic Site.
"I want to go too," Cheryl Suweton quickly put down her meal box, wiped her mouth, and followed him.
"There’s no need, I’m just having a look," Sean Knight waved his hand.
"But I want to go!" Cheryl Suweton cooed, twisting her body playfully.
On both sides, Elijah Hastings and including Haruda Tomoko couldn’t bear to look—this was a bit too much public affection!
"Alright, then stick close to me later, and pay attention to safety," Sean Knight nodded.
Cheryl Suweton moved forward, holding Sean Knight’s hand and laughing blissfully, oblivious to the jealous gazes around, and kept up with Sean Knight.
"They’re practically inseparable..." Haruda Tomoko complained with some envy.
"Douglas, you stay here to watch the tents. Lincoln Harrington and I will follow them," Elijah Hastings, who had already finished his meal and was reinforcing the tent, saw Sean Knight and others walking into the Ruin Site and suggested.
"Understood," Douglas Cooper acknowledged.
The two of them followed immediately, maintaining a distance of about thirty or forty meters from Sean Knight and company—not too far and not too close, vigilantly watching their surroundings.
Under the veil of night, the Relic Site appeared and disappeared amongst the shrubbery.
Twisted vines that seemed monstrous wrapped around the remaining walls, like a giant beast that has just eaten its fill and was quietly digesting its food.
The vines on the ground were also winding, and if Sean Knight hadn’t been constantly reminding Cheryl Suweton to watch her step, this princess-cum-treasure hunter would have stumbled and fallen to the ground.
Even so, she walked unsteadily, so Sean Knight simply carried her halfway and chose the most accessible route to advance.
The four guides watching Sean Knight and others enter the Ruin Site, the lead one whispered something, and one guide immediately followed them.
Standing in front of a collapsed and broken statue, Sean Knight said:
"Look at the image of this statue..."
Cheryl Suweton squinted hard but couldn’t make out what the statue represented.
Before her was just a pitch-black blob.
Having no other choice, she turned on the small Flashlight she carried, and a beam of light enveloped the statue.
"Ah—!"
Cheryl Suweton let out a low cry of surprise and immediately threw herself into Sean Knight’s arms.
The image of the statue was that of a huge triangular serpent’s head, its mouth wide open, baring its sharp venomous fangs.
And inside the serpent’s mouth, a person appeared to be painfully stretching out a hand, seemingly swallowed by the snake, trying to escape, yet utterly unable to get out.
The serpent’s eyes were made of large Emeralds, which looked incredibly chilling under the flashlight’s reflection, and the pained expression on the human face was also disconcerting.
Although the statue was entangled in vines, its ferocious depiction was not obscured.
"Don’t be afraid, it’s just a stone statue," Sean Knight laughed and said, "Look, we might get a little treasure here."
As he spoke, he flicked his wrist, revealing a dagger, then stepped forward and pried out the two gemstone eyes of the statue.
"Here, I’ll give these to you," Sean Knight said, handing two palm-sized Emeralds to Cheryl Suweton.
"I don’t want it, it’s scary!" Cheryl Suweton refused to even look at it.
Sean Knight nonchalantly put away the Emeralds. The quality of the two Emeralds was ordinary, and the cutting technique was quite rough; they weren’t worth much money but were better than nothing.
With this statue as a starter, Cheryl Suweton wasn’t as frightened afterwards, and even though they encountered various strangely shaped statues, she was prepared and even thought about taking pictures with her Mobile Phone.
Although Ruin Site had buildings, the obstruction of vines and shrubbery made it difficult to explore deeply. Since Cheryl Suweton was with him, Sean Knight could only look for the most convenient roads.
"Sean, I’ve noticed that you seem to be able to see clearly at night," Cheryl Suweton finally realized Sean Knight’s special ability, "Can you see without a Flashlight?"
"Not exactly, I’m just a bit better than ordinary people," Sean Knight said as he searched for a path forward, "I used to catch loaches and sparrows at night. The more I did it, the better my night vision became."
The Ruin Site was vast, and Sean Knight, leading Cheryl Suweton, only covered a very small area in about half an hour.
"This place must have been where the Temple Servants lived in the Divine Temple," Sean Knight observed a building in front of them which was comparatively more intact—intact being that at least part of all four walls remained.
Unlike some places where even a wall base was a lucky find.
Under the mighty forces of nature, all man-made structures seemed so insignificant and fragile.
"How can you tell?" Cheryl Suweton disentangled a vine and stamped her foot, asking.
"Look, this room is small, there are scratch marks on the wall, and over there in the corner..." Sean Knight bent down and poked around the corner of the wall with a stick, revealing a piece of blackened Wood remains.
"This is a broken bed. Its Wood was poor quality, I don’t know if it was burned or deliberately destroyed, but these are the traces left..."
Sean Knight explained bit by bit to Cheryl Suweton, and slowly the original outline of the room began to take shape in her Mind.
"Sean, you’re amazing!" Cheryl Suweton looked at Sean Knight with admiration, and that made Sean Knight feel a tinge of vanity.
"It’s nothing really, although we can determine what this place was for, there’s no wealth here," Sean Knight discarded the stick, dusted off his hands, and asked, "Shall we go back now?"
"Shall we go back? I think coming back Tomorrow Morning to have another look would be better."
"Okay then, let’s head back," Sean Knight concluded that the Ruin Site was most likely abandoned deliberately, thus making the chances of finding treasures quite slim.
