Chapter 830: Chapter 488: Really Not a Good Bird!_2
"Cheryl, Mr. Knight, how do you find this place? Are you satisfied?"
"Very satisfied." Sean Knight and Cheryl showed no particular concern for HarudaTomoko’s performance as a hostess, but Dutt Rivera frowned slightly.
Elijah Hastings and others appeared together, and Dutt stood up, laughing, and said:
"Let’s go, I’ll take you to the dining hall; the food is ready."
Sean Knight frowned; he really wasn’t a fan of the local cuisine—was it a lack of exposure or just a longing for food from his hometown?
The dining hall was spacious, reminiscent of the lavish feasts hosted by the nobility of Ancient China.
A large lobby with low tables on three sides, covered with delicious food, and an empty space in the middle, Sean Knight guessed was meant for performances.
After watching the guests settle at their tables, led by the waiters, Dutt from his principal seat said:
"Knowing that some of you might not be accustomed to our local specialties, we’ve prepared dishes from your hometowns, as well as Western meals and more, for everyone to enjoy as they wish."
Sean Knight raised his eyebrows, musing that this Dutt was impressive; he had even noticed his dislike for curry rice on the way here!
Then, watching as the maid-servants brought dish after dish, indeed, there were stir-fried vegetables from China, steaks and pasta from the West, and sushi from Japan.
Maid-servants waited at the side, ready to bring more of what you liked, and to take away what you disliked.
Drinks, beer, juice, and even a bottle of Maotai!
This was getting rather extravagant!
Although Sean Knight knew that overseas the stuff was cheaper than back home, its presence indicated that Dutt really cared.
The service standards exceeded five stars for sure; even Dubai’s seven stars might be just like this, right?
And it didn’t stop there; as everyone ate and chatted, Dutt clapped his hands, and a troop of lightly dressed girls came in, music started, and they began to dance.
The song and dance of India are truly world-renowned, and Sean Knight, during university time, had seen quite a few of their musicals.
It was really captivating!
Anyway, Sean Knight wasn’t in a rush about this whole business—a thousand square kilometers wasn’t something that could be found in a short time.
This Dutt was a local bigshot who might know something, so Sean Knight was not in a hurry, preferring to wait and see.
The Japanese Pirates had once sparked war, ransacking China and stealing plenty from this South Asian Subcontinent, the Southeast Peninsula, and those islands.
These places were naturally abundant with gold, jade, and gemstones, and their believers were generous in offering them to the Buddhist institutions, which had indeed suffered substantial looting.
Some of the loot was taken back to Japan, some was buried on the spot because the war was ending, saved for later use.
Why Japan could recover so quickly after the war—was it really because of the two billion US Dollars in aid from the Americans, and the Japanese women going down south to help with whatnot?
The plundered items played a significant role!
How many precious metals were stolen from China? Since the Eight-Nation Alliance’s invasion, Japan relied on spies and traitors; whenever they entered a city, the first thing they did was to rob the treasury of the Ministry of Revenue.
Later, during the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the first thing upon entering a city was to rob the banks of their treasuries.
Although the war ended and Japan returned some of the precious metals, it wasn’t even one percent of what was stolen!
Of course, how the debts would be calculated was another matter, but it was believed that they would be repaid step by step!
Delicious food, beautiful scenery, and beautiful women to cheer, this banquet was truly a delightful event.
After the meal, Dutt suggested that everyone should rest in their respective rooms and that if they wished, they could stroll through the Manor under the escort of maid-servants; there would be new arrangements Tomorrow.
Everyone had no objections to Dutt’s plan, and they left with laughter and chatter.
Although Dutt was hosting everyone in consideration of HarudaTomoko, Sean Knight was thinking of giving a gift before leaving, as a token of gratitude.
After all, such hospitality was of very high standard.
"That’s appropriate," Cheryl also agreed with Sean Knight, "We shouldn’t accept his kindness for nothing, especially since it seems a bit too much."
The two strolled in the Manor’s garden, under the escort of maid-servants, occasionally sitting under the flower-decorated swing frame, where Sean Knight took out his mobile phone to snap photos of Cheryl.
Cheryl, who seemed to have had a bit to drink, pulled Sean Knight down beside her on the swing chair for an up-close selfie.
"I’m going to post this photo on my social media platform!" Cheryl whispered excitedly, "Let those jealous girls see just how outstanding my boyfriend is!"
Sean Knight hadn’t expected Cheryl to also be troubled by this kind of thing.
Consequently, he held Cheryl tighter and kissed her forehead apologetically.
Because of him, Cheryl must have endured quite a few grievances, right?
Feeling Sean Knight’s emotion, Cheryl looked up, blinked, and then kissed him of her own accord.
After a while, Cheryl said:
"You needn’t blame yourself; I asked for this. Moreover, I think I chose quite well, at least better than what my parents and relatives had imagined!"
Then she began to count on her fingers:
"Handsome, wealthy, influential, and owner of a big island... it’s already very good!"
Sean Knight burst into laughter, experiencing for the first time such earnest talk from Cheryl about him.
"I’m just stating facts." Cheryl smiled too, "Posting it will definitely annoy them—each one either got a fallen aristocrat holding onto an old castle, unable to afford an airplane ride; or an upstart, unable to effectively communicate with their partner, all for the sake of appearances... How much better off we are!"
