Chapter 823: Chapter 486: One Happy Enemy After Another

Heilemann left Sean Knight with a beautifully produced album of paintings.

The album was divided into several categories, all of which included items that Sean had previously purchased through Kyle Mitchell.

Not only were they included, but the quality was better, and the grade higher, than what Kyle Mitchell had provided.

Although Sean was a layman, he had, out of necessity, done some research in the recent past.

From what he could see in the book, some items were definitely in active service with the American military.

And yet, these items were boldly presented in the album.

The items were all of high quality, of course, and the prices were truly exorbitant.

Sean casually picked out an item, and its price was three to four times higher than the prices Kyle Mitchell had quoted him.

And those speedboats equipped with heavy weaponry needed for patrolling the seas were now double the price!

Was he really being taken for a fool to be slaughtered for money?

If he had to pay these prices, the cost of the items he bought would not stop at 300 million dollars!

Sean was now somewhat understanding why so many people were grinding their teeth over the Americans’ military sales.

They were really selling scrap metal at the price of gold!

He carelessly tossed the book aside.

Seeing Sean’s action, Kathy Lewis was a bit puzzled and asked,

"Mr. Knight, Heilemann is a very gentlemanly person. He even specifically reminded us that some of the items he’s brokering are currently in use by the military, and he hopes you understand the risks he is taking.

Of course, he also hopes that after you buy them, these weapons will not flow to places they shouldn’t, nor should they be disassembled at will..."

"You help me refuse him," Sean waved his hand, "just say I don’t need those things anymore. I can’t afford them."

Kathy Lewis pouted, thinking that it’s not that he couldn’t afford these items, but rather that he just didn’t want to buy them.

However, since Sean was her boss, and she also had a relationship with Jeremy Knight, Kathy naturally took Sean’s side. She nodded and said,

"Alright, I’ll reject Mr. Heilemann right away."

After Kathy made the phone call to report to Sean, she said,

"Mr. Heilemann said it’s a pity. He originally wanted to come and talk to you personally. I refused him."

"Mmm, you did the right thing," Sean commented, "I love peace. I don’t want war, nor do I want to attack others proactively..."

He didn’t finish his sentence, but he believed Kathy understood what he meant.

Not attacking others proactively did not mean he wouldn’t retaliate if attacked.

Kathy just smiled and said nothing more.

In the following days, Heilemann did not give Sean a call, and Sean naturally didn’t care, thinking the matter was over.

Since he was here, there was no reason to run away immediately, so Sean spent his time either watching Joanna Davis work or picking her up after work, enjoying their two-person world.

While at the Port, Sean visited Joanna’s workplace. When he did, two of Elijah Hastings’ men followed him, and the other one would go to the Freight Yard managed by Jason Caldwell. Douglas Cooper even started getting hooked on gambling with Containers, mingling with Mr. Madden and others, spending money to entertain himself by purchasing a Container just for the thrill of it.

With nothing much to do, Sean didn’t bother about it. Neither did Elijah Hastings nor Lincoln Harrington advise against it, after all, it wasn’t a big deal.

And surprisingly, although Douglas wasn’t very lucky, he made quite a few friends.

Earlier, Sean had been termed the "lucky lad" here, and this was not without a hint of envy.

But Douglas, with his not-so-great luck, still managed to earn a respectable status among them, and became friends with many big shots.

Of course, in private, Douglas would lament,

"How come I don’t have the boss’s luck? Just look at what I’ve got; I have to spend a decent amount of money just on Garbage disposal every day!"

Most of the items from the Container could be sold somewhere if they were second-hand.

But with Douglas’s current wealth, he really didn’t have the leisure to bother with that, and most of the time, he dealt with those items on the spot to the second-hand dealers waiting there.

Most of the time, he didn’t even make enough to cover his original investment, but occasionally, by sheer luck, he could score big. Usually, he would then show off for a while.

Then the next day, he would share some snacks with others, so those who knew he had struck it rich wouldn’t be too jealous.

When Sean learned of this, he commented to Elijah, laughing,

"I think if Douglas keeps hanging around here, he’ll definitely do better than me."

"Not likely, he’ll probably be just like those guys for a lifetime," Elijah shook his head, "No matter how high your EQ is or how tactfully you handle things, without good luck, you can’t really make it big."

Elijah had been with Sean for a long time and knew that this profession was like gambling — most of the time, you barely break even, occasionally you make a big profit, and occasionally you suffer massive losses.

Consistently making big profits was practically unheard of.

Sean was a bug in the system.

For Sean, this period was another life experience.

Back on Big Island, Lana Brown gave him the impression of being a combination of traditional Chinese womanhood and a modern-era female, balancing career with being deeply considerate of his feelings, and also took care of his daily life.

Here, Joanna Davis was more concerned with aligning with Sean on an emotional and physical level and enjoying the exotic sensation brought by the mysterious Eastern man.

As for daily life, one couldn’t expect her to look after Sean — it was a good thing if Sean didn’t have to take care of her.
