Chapter 770: Chapter 466 Turns out the Old Monk is Not a Good Thing!_3

Even though a night had passed and much of the scent had faded, the old monk, keen-nosed as a hound, could tell something was off.

The old monk gazed at Sean Knight without speaking, seemed to be waiting for a reply from him.

Before Sean could say anything, Vicky Wilson took the chance to ask:

"Why isn’t it magical anymore? Is it because it was offended last night?"

"Of course not. That was a minor event, not worth its wrath." The old monk turned to Sean, his voice becoming stern:

"Mr. Knight, aren’t you going to clarify this?"

"Clarify what?" Sean pretended to be confused, "I have no idea what you mean, master. As for the Ox-head God’s powers, didn’t we dissect that yesterday? If it’s no longer reacting, isn’t it probably tired of wasting its power on undeserving people?"

At this, Master Floyd turned pale.

Green with rage, in fact!

Wasn’t Sean indirectly mocking him?

Just yesterday he boasted about praying to the Buddha and the deities, and now Sean was giving him a taste of his own medicine.

After all, the Ox-head God wasn’t a Buddhist deity, so it wouldn’t want to protect him.

But the old monk held his peace. Was this boy really pretending not to know? Were they forcing him to expose them?

Master Floyd found that strange.

Usually, any slight disturbance around the main hall could wake him. What happened last night?

If those two had managed to steal those treasures, there must have been some noise.

He had been particularly observant of any activity on that end while he slept, but hadn’t noticed anything unusual. So, how could the treasures have been stolen?

Vicky, finding herself between the rock and the hard place, was baffled.

What on earth was happening?

Just last night, the old monk had specifically asked for Sean and his companions to stay, but why were they at loggerheads so early in the morning?

Even if she were stupid, she would have realized that something was off.

She knew the old monk, and Sean and his friends were her guests. Although she didn’t want to get involved, she couldn’t just stay out of it.

She took a step forward and said to the old monk:

"Master Floyd, could there be a misunderstanding?"

Then she turned to Sean and said:

"Mr. Knight, the old monk is well-versed in Buddhism, he usually doesn’t comment on others. If there’s any misunderstanding, it would be best to explain..."

According to her, the tension between the two parties seemed to have originated from the debate last night and was escalating.

"Miss Meiko, you are also implicated in this." The old monk, no longer playing dumb, pointed to the Ox-head God statue, saying:

"This Ox-head God statue has been here for so many years and its power comes from a treasure cave inside it, where a Buddhist statue is hidden. I suspect Mr. Knight has stolen that statue!"

"Watch your mouth, old monk!" Before Sean could respond, Elijah Hastings spoke up indignantly, "Our boss would never stoop so low as to steal!"

The old monk was taken aback that the two of them would dare to lie right in front of him!

He stared at them and then chuckled, saying:

"Do you think I, a seventy-year-old man, pose no threat to you? I tell you, I can singlehandedly take down ten of you!"

Wow, now that’s a bold claim!

Elijah snorted. Vicky, on the other hand, was getting anxious. She quickly turned to Sean, saying:

"Did you do anything wrong? If you did, put things right immediately. Master Floyd is reasonable..."

Then she nervously turned to Master Floyd and said:

"Master, they didn’t do it on purpose. They probably saw something interesting and..."

Having said that, she started to wink desperately at Sean.

It seemed that Vicky was aware of the old monk’s capabilities and influence.

But both Sean and Elijah shook their heads.

Sean simply stated:

"I didn’t steal anything here..."

In his mind, he added: I took it. This artifact originally belonged to China. You stole it, and I came to take it back! I did not steal. Is it stealing to take something that belongs to you?

Furious, the old monk reached out to grab Sean’s bag without saying a word.

It was clear that he thought the stolen goods would be in Sean’s bag.

Although he couldn’t smell anything, he figured that was because the scent had been covered up.

As long as he uncovered the items, everything would be clear!

Elijah stepped forward to stop him, but Sean waved him off and handed his bag to the old monk.

This took the old monk by surprise.

However, he took the bag without a second thought and began to rummage through it.

"So, did you find the items you were talking about?" Sean spoke with a smirk, "If not, then you have falsely accused me!"

The old monk’s face turned dark!

The bag contained toiletries, snacks, clothes, but not the items that the old monk had anticipated!

The old monk, humiliated, turned his glare on Sean before rummaging through the bag again, even inspecting the side pockets and small compartments on the outside.

But not only did he fail to find what he was looking for, he couldn’t even detect a hint of scent!

How was that possible?

He had checked earlier and found that the treasure from the Ox-head God’s cave was definitely gone!

Although that man with glasses had been here yesterday, he was apparently not capable of pulling off such a theft.

So, the only suspects were Sean and his crew.

But now that Sean’s bag was clear, and Elijah wasn’t even carrying a bag, the old monk’s gaze fell upon Vicky’s small backpack.

Vicky’s backpack was cute and petite, more of an accessory than anything else, not capable of holding much.

But seeing the old monk’s gaze on her made Vicky feel awkward.

Why would they suspect her?

Sean said to Vicky with a playful smirk:

"You’d better let the old monk check your bag, otherwise, who knows, he might suddenly lose his temper and bury you in the vegetable field as fertilizer!"

Vicky assumed that Sean was joking, but she still quickly took off her bag and handed it to the old monk.

She had yet to experience Master Floyd’s wrath.

However, the old monk took the bag but didn’t immediately inspect it, instead he gazed intently at Sean.

His look even contained a hint of wariness!

How did this young man know about the objects in the vegetable field?

Was he merely bluffing? Or did he really know something?

The old monk couldn’t guess, but he knew what was more important.

He hastily unzipped Vicky’s bag and rifled through it, but still didn’t find what he was looking for. This made the old monk even more frustrated!

He fully understood the value of those items. If they were lost, the loss would be tremendous!
