Chapter 696: Chapter 441: The Bottom of the Temple_2
"There’s a high probability we’ll run into them," Sean Knight said. "Since those people found this place, they must have their sources. Maybe they’ll find the treasure before us."
In fact, Sean wasn’t too worried, at least they were in the dark, and the others were in the open.
Anyway, they had the advantage now.
After eating, the four of them took out their guns, moving carefully forward.
"Did you guys notice, we seem to be going downward!" Elijah Hastings suddenly said.
"Indeed, we’re going deeper- look, the water level of this subterranean river has gotten much deeper." Douglas Cooper also noticed.
"It could also be that the terrain above has gotten higher, this might be a mountain or a hill," Sean Knight said, "But there’s no need to worry, even if this is a dead end, we can simply turn back."
They walked for another hour before stopping.
"I can’t believe the source of this underground river is like this!"
At the river’s source, there was a stone platform built by people. The majority of the water gushed out from an opening on the side of the platform.
However, there should be plenty of water supply here, not only the opening but also the cracks on both sides of the stones were seeping water.
This abundant amount of water was the initial water source of the underground river.
Then along the way, it collected and converged with the underground springs, forming a larger and larger underground river.
On top of the stone platform, there was an archway, with stairs leading deeper in.
Sean opened his Sky Eye and could see that deep in those stairs, there was an iron gate.
"Let’s go take a look," Sean led the way over.
With his Sky Eye, he saw through the iron gate that it led to a place like a reservoir.
At the bottom of this reservoir, there were many gold coins and valuable items scattered.
So, the treasures in the underground river were flowing out from here!
The iron gate was locked from the inside with an iron stick, but after so many years, the finger-thick iron stick had not much left due to the damp erosion.
Sean shook it hard a few times, broke the iron stick, and pulled open the iron gate.
"I didn’t expect it to be like this inside," the four of them entered, and Douglas whispered.
The reservoir was now full, and water flowed down from an exposed pipe at a higher position.
The diameter of the pipe was about half a meter, only one-third of the water volume.
The opening of the pipe was decorated in the shape of a divine beast, which reminded Sean of the Twelve Zodiac heads.
It seemed to be made of copper as well, and if taken out, it would probably be worth a lot.
The iron gate was a little higher than the reservoir, which seemed to be carved out of stone. Copper plates covered the surrounding walls, but they were already corroded.
"How extravagant!"
The reservoir was close to a tall wall, and the wall led to a flight of stairs.
The stairs continued to the center of the wall, then went deeper, this time there was a wooden door.
The four of them came to the wooden door, Sean found no lock and no one behind it.
He pulled open the wooden door, the hinges rusted, making an unpleasant sound.
Sean got startled, but after waiting for a while, noticing no movement, he exhaled and went in first.
Inside the door, there was a space the size of two football fields. In the center was a circular pool with exquisite sculptures.
Sean approached the pool and found it similar to a wishing pool, half-filled with water, and the bottom covered with gold and silver coins.
"Damn! Are they that rich?" Douglas came over, saw it, and commented.
"Let’s take them first."
The four of them immediately got into the water and picked up everything inside.
Sean looked around again and found that there were four doors on each side of the square, each about four meters high. The ceiling was painted with a giant painting, depicting a god riding a war elephant and fighting demons.
The god had three eyes, just like Erlang God, with the third eye vertically above his eyebrows, radiating light and possessing peculiar bravery.
In the god’s hand was a torch, its light turning countless demons into ashes.
Sean could not help but take out his mobile phone and take a picture of the giant painting.
"Boss, which way should we go next?"
Having collected all the gold and silver coins, Elijah came over to ask Sean.
Sean first went to the door opposite the one they had entered.
Behind that door were stairs going down, to Sean’s surprise, it was a place for dumping garbage. Even after hundreds to thousands of years, there was still a foul smell.
Under the door to the left were more stairs going down, leading to deeper underground, where there were rows of small houses with iron railings. Inside, there were still skeletons.
It was actually a place to hold prisoners!
Only the door to the right had stairs going up.
"Let’s go!" Sean led the way to the door on the right.
Of these doors, apart from the one holding the prisoners, which was an iron door with three large locks, the other doors were wooden and unlocked.
But the doors were exquisite, covered with copper sheets, and adorned with intricate lines and decorations.
Opening the door, continuing up, Sean found that behind the wooden door there was still another door.
However, this door was made of thin copper plates, even the handle was gold!
This was too extravagant!
Opening the door, they entered a hallway.
Exquisite paintings were on both sides of the hallway walls, also featuring gods, either riding war elephants in battle or living in the divine realm.
