Chapter 653: Chapter 422: Don’t Pretend, or You’ll Be Struck by Lightning_2
"Let’s head back," Sean Knight said.
Edward Shermer knew that Sean had been here before, so he trusted his words and immediately started to head back.
By the time they returned to the temporary camp, a light wind had already begun to blow.
"Tell them to reinforce the tents. This windstorm might get quite strong!" Sean said to Elijah Hastings:
"Also, I saw that some people haven’t gotten out of the car yet. Ask them if they plan to stay in the car. If so, it’s better to persuade them to get out. The temperature difference between day and night is huge here, and it would be troublesome if they get frozen or injured."
Sean was so considerate mainly because the company now belonged to him, and he still needed to worry about what should be worried about.
He was not worried about his own tent at all—with Lincoln Harrington and Douglas Cooper taking care of it, the result would definitely be more reliable than if he did it himself.
Edward took Elijah’s words to heart and immediately had people reinforce the tents while he participated in it as well.
However, Mary Edwards in the bus just refused to get out.
"I’ve experienced windstorms before! I’ve seen worse windstorms in Texas! Tents were blown away, but the bus was fine!"
Mary originally planned to go to the tent if necessary since there were sleeping bags, but once she heard about the windstorm, she immediately refused to get out.
Several men tried to drag her out, but Mary simply locked the car door from inside.
Although the door could still be opened, Edward waved his hand:
"No need to persuade her, let her stay inside."
Elijah reported this matter to Sean, who looked at the rolling yellow sand on the mountain ridge and thought of the huge windstorm he had heard of in the capital suburb. He then shared the same attitude with Edward:
"It’s hard to persuade a stubborn ghost, so let’s not bother. Let’s quickly get some hot food and then get into the tents!"
It was too late to start boiling water and cooking at this point, so everyone in their group got a self-heating rice meal. On the small folding table in the middle, there were two self-heating hot pots with beef meatballs and duck blood and tripe, which tasted quite good with rice.
Edward’s nose was like a bear’s, and he came over when he smelled the food.
They were eating bagged noodles and ham and drinking mineral water, with no hot food at all.
But eating something hot at this time, regardless of race, would make it feel more than ten times better!
"Come on, help yourself," Sean handed a self-heating rice meal to Edward. Douglas had taught him how to use it, and Edward didn’t hesitate to start eating with big bites.
He even gave a thumbs-up while eating!
He was really not picky at all!
Before they finished eating, the wind grew stronger, blowing sand with it. Sean immediately carried his things and said:
"Alright, let’s get into the tents!"
Edward ran back to his tent in a somewhat awkward manner.
Sean entered his tent, pulled up the zipper, and turned on the solar-powered lamp. He opened an electronic screen and read a novel while eating.
The cold wind outside couldn’t get in, and although the temperature inside dropped a bit, it was still bearable.
Edward returned to his tent, still holding the self-heating rice lunch box, unwilling to throw it away.
"Mr. Shermer, what are you eating?"
"The magical rice from Chinese People," Edward laughed.
"Is it hot?"
"Yes."
These people weren’t strangers to self-heating food, but they generally didn’t have much contact with such items.
Unlike Sean and his friends, who were used to preparing a lot of such food, this sudden change felt different.
If the weather was hot, they wouldn’t feel the difference, but now, the windstorm carried cold air and took away all the warmth outside the tent. These people could only feel warm when they stayed in their sleeping bags.
The tent’s spatial realm was limited, and they were afraid of accidents, so they didn’t light any fires. Thus, Edward’s self-heating food became precious.
"Chinese People are so clever!" someone said, "I’ll take a look tomorrow too."
"Mr. Shermer, the next time we go out in the field, I suggest we bring some of these kinds of foods. Convenient!"
While they were discussing this, Mary, who was in the bus, was already starting to suffer.
At first, she had a blanket wrapped around herself, lying on the reclined seat to sleep.
However, within a short time of the windstorm, the sky outside, which was originally a clear sunset, suddenly darkened.
Then the wind and sand hit the car window with a series of loud sounds.
Although the curtains on the bus could be pulled, they couldn’t block out the noise.
Moreover, although the bus looked quite new, it was not a new car and had many places from where the air could leak in.
The cold wind seeped in bit by bit, and soon Mary couldn’t bear it any longer. While there was still a little bit of light outside, she quickly got up and found the sleeping bag assigned by her company. Without worrying about getting it dirty, she spread it out in the aisle and immediately crawled inside it.
At first, she felt a bit warmer, but as time went on, the metal floor gradually absorbed the heat from the sleeping bag, and Mary also felt her body temperature dropping slowly. It took her a long time to remember there was a moisture-proof pad - how long had it been since she spent a night outdoors?
Without thinking too much, Mary spread out the moisture-proof pad and crawled back into the sleeping bag.
By now, Mary was filled with regret.
However, listening to the cold wind blowing outside and the incessant tapping on the bus, she couldn’t muster the courage to get off and go to the tent.
What if the wind blew it away?
This night, for Mary, was destined to be a long one.
Of course, for Sean Knight, this night was quite comfortable - the sound of the wind and sand had no effect on his sleep.
It is unclear when the wind and sand stopped. When daylight came, Sean Knight got out of his sleeping bag but did not instantly open the tent. Instead, he shook the tent vigorously from the inside to shake off the sand that the wind had blown on the tent. Only then did he crawl out.
After coming out, Sean Knight found about two inches thick layer of sand and soil accumulated outside the tent.
There was no movement from Edward Shermer’s tents, but Elijah Hastings and his team had already cleared the sand and soil around their tents and started boiling water and cooking.
"Boss, why don’t you sleep a little longer?" Douglas Cooper stirred the porridge on the gas stove with a smile and asked.
"I’ve had enough sleep." Sean Knight stretched lazily, took some water and a towel to wash up briefly, and then asked:
"What’s the situation inside the bus?"
"We can’t open the door." Lincoln Harrington came back with two rabbits and said: "With this weather, I guess they might catch a cold."
Sean Knight wasn’t too concerned. The temperature at night hadn’t dropped below zero, so it shouldn’t be that serious.
As for catching a cold, well, consider it a lesson learned.
After the wind and sand, the air was still good. Sean Knight didn’t expect Lincoln to catch something so quickly, so he smiled and said:
"Did you catch these?"
"No, I went for a stroll, and these two rabbits must have been lost in the wind and sand. They were huddled in a pile of rocks nearby, and I saw them."
When Edward Shermer and his group got up and the driver opened the bus door, they found out that Mary indeed had a cold and showed some signs of fever.
A few people carried her to the tent, and after taking some medicine, Jennifer took care of her.
Last night, Jennifer was also a little scared and even regretted not staying in the bus with Mary.
But now, seeing Mary’s flushed face and trembling body, Jennifer was incredibly relieved that she had listened.
After breakfast, Edward Shermer announced that the remaining staff would go up the mountain, disperse, and search for the veins to obtain enough ore samples.
Not only did they need to find out the grade of the ore, but they also had to explore the scope of the veins.
Sean Knight and his team had already completed their mission, but he had no intention of leaving at this moment.
He wanted to see how far Edward Shermer could go in the end.
Moreover, he found out that Edward Shermer’s experience was inadequate. These people didn’t carry any weapons nor had given much thought to security forces.
It would be quite troublesome if they encountered any issues.
So, Sean Knight’s idea was to stay and at least ensure Edward Shermer and his team finished their exploration safely before leaving.
After all, this is related to his own business!
At this time, Sean Knight would not back down.
Of course, neither would Elijah Hastings and his team - For this investment, Sean Knight gave some shares to Elijah and his team.
The cost was that money obtained from selling the properties Robert handed over to Elijah went to Sean Knight.
It was like buying shares.
Of course, both parties felt it was a good deal.
And so, things were settled.
Sean Knight never thought that things would happen so quickly!
