Chapter 654: Chapter 423: Do a good job in mass work here too!
Having found the exact location of the mine, Edward Shermer and his team went to explore more extensive areas, so Sean Knight didn’t follow them and took a different direction.
"Lincoln, where did you find the rabbit? Let’s go have a look."
Sean Knight held a special interest in hunting and fishing, so he planned to go further and see if they could catch any game.
It was impossible to do this in China, as there were too few and most were protected animals.
But here, there were too few people.
Sean often saw news about yellow sheep and wild donkeys jumping across the border to the Chinese side.
So, there was still an abundance of wildlife resources in Outer Mongolia.
"It’s just 200 meters ahead."
"Let’s go see if we can find a bigger one." Sean Knight took a folding hunting rifle from the off-road vehicle and carried it on his shoulder.
"Boss, shall we go too?" Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper seemed eager.
"Sure." Sean looked at the campground here; besides Jennifer taking care of Mary Edwards, an Outer Mongolian official and driver were also there. Shermer had left a male colleague here too.
So, there were plenty of people.
With the Outer Mongolian official present, maybe any unexpected visitors would be manageable?
So they drove the off-road vehicle away from the campground and headed forward.
The area was mostly sand and gravel, with some alkali flats. Although there were shrubs and weeds, they were not widely spread.
So, the off-road vehicle was very convenient to drive.
Having stayed here before, Sean knew that such a large area belonged to the government and not private entities.
So, hunting here would not be hindered by others.
Not long after they set off, Lincoln pointed out a rubble pile to Sean.
The stones were large and scattered, with many crevices in between.
"The rabbits were in there. They were almost frozen stiff when I found them. They must have been injured during the wind last night, so they couldn’t run fast and I caught them."
They parked the car and checked the cracks in the stones, but there was nothing else inside. So Sean and his friends continued driving until they were about one kilometer away from the mountain.
"Bang!"
"Bang, bang!"
Suddenly, gunshots came from the distance one after another. Sean and the others stopped the car immediately.
"It’s in that direction!" Elijah pointed in the southeast direction and said:
"It sounds like a hunting rifle."
"Are the locals hunting?" Sean guessed.
Although he said so, he still watched cautiously.
If there was trouble, he would hand the guns to Elijah and the others at the first moment.
Then, suddenly, a loud noise came from the direction of the gunshots.
Having climbed onto the roof of the car, Elijah suddenly shouted:
"A herd of yellow sheep!"
Then Sean saw a large herd of nearly a hundred yellow sheep running wildly from the direction of the gunshots.
They were struggling to keep up with their pace. The leaders of these sheep were relatively large, while some of the young lambs behind them struggled to keep up with the long-distance running.
In the more remote area, people were chasing the sheep in pickup trucks and on horseback, occasionally firing a shot or two.
When the herd of yellow sheep came running their way, they saw Sean and his friends’ cars and people immediately changed direction, running towards the mountains.
Elijah asked a question:
"Boss, shall we chase?"
Sean shook his head and said:
"Forget it. There must be other prey besides yellow sheep in such a large Gobi desert. This herd of yellow sheep was obviously pushed our way by them; we shouldn’t meddle."
It wasn’t about fearing trouble, but there was no need to provoke it in unfamiliar territory.
However, to Sean’s surprise, most of the people continued to chase the yellow sheep herd, but one of them riding a horse slowed down and trotted over.
The man held a hunting rifle in his hand and stopped about twenty to thirty meters away from Sean and the others. After glancing at them, he suddenly asked:
"Are you here to hunt?"
Surprisingly, he spoke Mandarin!
Though it sounded a little stiff.
Sean relaxed, thinking the man was coming over to cause trouble.
But after thinking about it, if it was to cause trouble, only one person wouldn’t come over.
"Yes. You are..." Sean stepped forward and asked, "Did you come from inside the country, or do you have relatives in China?"
"I have relatives." The man grinned as he spoke.
He had a typical Mongolian face, a stout figure, and a face weathered by wind and sand, peeling and spotted, making him look older than his actual age.
"Why didn’t you shoot when the yellow sheep came just now?" The man jumped off his horse and walked over, "You couldn’t have missed if you shot!"
"It wouldn’t be appropriate to shoot the prey you chased down!" Sean explained, "There must be plenty of game on this Gobi Beach!"
"You are right! You care about the rules!" The man gave a thumbs up, "My name is Antony Carter, many people here know me. I’ll give you this sheep!"
After saying that, he turned back, pulled a yellow sheep off his horse, and threw it at Sean’s feet:
"This sheep is a lamb from last year. The meat is tender, and it’s delicious with the allium mongolicum regel here!"
Sean didn’t expect Antony to be so generous. Before he could even express his gratitude, Antony had already mounted his horse and rode away.
"This guy is nice!" Elijah said, "It seems at least he doesn’t see us as enemies."
