Chapter 652: Chapter 422: Don’t Pretend, or You’ll Be Struck by Lightning

They walked several kilometers along the mountain and arrived at the place Sean Knight had confirmed earlier.

He remembered facing several dangers here, but in the end, they were all resolved.

Whether human or insect, those who were still alive in the end were them.

The car drove into an open space, a place that had not been affected by the previous small skirmish.

"Let’s camp here tonight," Sean said to Edward Shermer. "There are quite a few shrubs around, and lots of snakes, insects, rodents, and even wolves. This open space is relatively rare, and the location is appropriate."

"Alright," Edward Shermer wasn’t unfamiliar with camping outdoors either, so he agreed readily. "It’s just that finding water sources is difficult."

"We’re an exploration team after all, not working here long-term," Sean laughed. "If we need to work long-term, there’s a river within ten kilometers nearby. If needed, digging a well isn’t out of the question."

Although the surface was covered with windsand, Sean had already learned that there was groundwater here, as long as one could find a water source.

This was a professional’s job.

And so the camping arrangements were settled.

There were nine people on the bus, including two women who were not pleased.

Compared to the environment where one’s foot would sink halfway into the sandy soil, the two of them would rather stay on the bus.

Or rather, the thirty-five-year-old Beautiful Country woman with a very common name, Mary.

While everyone else was quietly moving their luggage, Mary whispered to another black girl, Jennifer:

"Don’t listen to them! I’ve stayed in similar conditions in Texas. It looks clean during the day, but at night all sorts of bugs appear, crawling into your hair, nostrils and even mouth. Oh my god!"

With Mary’s words, Jennifer, who had just joined the company, began to hesitate.

However, Jennifer’s supervisor, Baker Lynn, called out to her from outside:

"Jennifer, hurry up and put these instruments away! It’s getting dark, don’t waste time!"

Apologizing with a glance at Mary, Jennifer hurriedly hugged the instruments and left.

With no other choice, Mary grumbled:

"Hmph! With so little courage, no wonder she gets bullied!"

She was determined to stay on the bus.

Although she didn’t really want to come on this trip, given the generous allowance for it and thinking about the numbers on her credit card and the bills, Mary knew that if she didn’t come, she might have to move out of her apartment next month and find a more modest place to live.

Considering that she only knew how to read the paper spewed out by the instruments and didn’t need to dig stones in the mountains, why not take this high-paying job?

A steady job with a decent salary was already a blessing in this sluggish economy.

Sean and his team set up two small tents, while Edward Shermer’s group also had two tents - a small one for the ladies and a large one for the men.

Sean, Elijah Hastings, and Edward Shermer, along with a technician, had already arrived at the foot of the mountain.

"Mr. Shermer, I didn’t expect you to be so eager. I thought you would at least wait until tomorrow to start working," Sean said.

"Mr. Knight, do you know that I haven’t had a proper job since I quit two years ago? I’m eager to find a qualified mine and get back to work!" Edward Shermer said while climbing the mountain with Sean.

"So, as long as the quality of this mine isn’t too bad, I’ll approve it. I want to get back to work as soon as possible, only then can I feel that I’m not getting old, that I can still work and enjoy a better life!"

Well, people’s goals are different.

Sean led Edward Shermer on a long climb to the place where he had previously discovered the golden vein.

The rocks here were severely weathered, and Sean opened his Sky Eye, looking for a place where the vein was about to emerge from the mountain. He used the mountaineering stick he was carrying to pry off a piece of rock, knocking it further in, took out a piece of stone from inside, and handed it to Edward Shermer:

"Take a look, is this stone a mineral?"

There were tiny golden dots on the stone. Edward glanced at it, and quickly took a small hammer out of his bag and started hitting the stone.

After breaking the stone open, he found that the tiny dots penetrated less than three centimeters before disappearing.

He was disappointed, but he knew that this was just the outermost stone and would have to look inside.

Sean pried another piece off and handed it over.

As he walked forward, he said:

"When we first arrived here, we saw many such things along the way but didn’t pay much attention to them. Later, we took a piece back with us, and after testing, they said it was gold ore, so we offered this place."

Sean walked over a hundred meters, prying off seven or eight stones and handing them to Edward Shermer.

Edward examined each stone carefully, then handed them to the technician beside him.

Determining this kind of vein with the naked eye is impossible - except for Sean.

After all, setting up a mining site in the deserted countryside requires a huge investment.

If a massive investment just leads to a small or poor mine, then losses would not only be for the tundra mining company, but also Edward Shermer’s reputation and future.

At this point, Elijah Hastings came forward with a reminder:

"Boss, the weather is changing."

Sean turned his head to look, and sure enough, the sun was veiled in a layer of gray mist, revealing an orange-yellow ball. A faint gust of windsand blew by, indicating that the weather was turning over there.
