Chapter 497: Chapter 345: My Territory, I Make the Rules!_2
These guys think we’re here to steal stuff just like them!
When the off-road vehicle arrived at the campground, those people quickly occupied a few of the cabins and then said to Elijah Hastings and his companions as they got out of the car:
"We’ve taken these rooms, and everything inside is ours. You guys should go somewhere else!"
Sean Knight and the others laughed in exasperation. These guys were really brazen!
Without waiting for Sean’s command, Elijah’s group confronted the car and people:
"Take everything back! This campground was bought by our boss! You are trespassing and stealing! If we kill you now, it would be totally justified!"
Douglas Cooper even fired a shot at the feet of one of them!
The sudden gunfire scared the hell out of those people.
Although they also had guns, they didn’t immediately intend to use them. Now, suddenly having guns pointed at them and being told that the other party owned the campground, they naturally backed down.
Although they were unwilling, under the deterrence of the gun, most of them eventually put the stolen items back where they belonged.
One of them suddenly pulled out a gun to resist—Arkansas allows concealed carry, and both guns and bullets can be combined for self-defense when threatened—
Then he was shot dead.
With one person dead, Elijah’s group went to look at the body and took his gun, all the while shouting:
"We have legal documents! You invaded private property—you better behave, or you’ll end up like him!"
With someone shot dead, the others were terrified. The impulsive revenge seen in movies, like taking up guns to avenge a killed colleague, didn’t happen now.
Douglas Cooper called the police, Lincoln Harrington recorded everything, and Sean Knight inspected the site.
Fortunately, these people were the first wave to steal from the campground, and the losses were not significant.
The police arrived in half an hour, watched the video, and learned of Sean Knight’s identity. After Sean agreed to donate fifty thousand dollars to the local police station to buy equipment and distribute bonuses, the officers happily took the intruders away.
Sean and his companions put everything back where it belonged, and after Douglas had finished inspecting the site, he laughed and said:
"This campground is really luxurious—with everything we need. Staying here feels even more comfortable than living in a New York villa!"
"Forget it, it’s fun for a short time but not suitable for a long stay." Elijah said, "Didn’t you hear what the police just said? The nearest town is more than ten kilometers away, and it’s a hassle to buy groceries."
"But it’s so peaceful." Douglas shrugged, "We can do both fine dining and eating roots and bark. Speaking of supplies, there’s enough here to last for ten days or half a month, right?
Besides, there are plenty of mushrooms and wild game in the forest. We could easily survive for a while."
"No need for that," Sean interjected. "We’ll rest well today. Starting tomorrow, we’ll scout the surrounding area to see how many people are cutting down trees in the forest."
"And what should we do if we find them?" Douglas asked.
"Simple," Sean replied. "There are still cars in the base’s underground garage. We’ll split into two teams, one going east and the other going west. If it’s just one or two trees getting cut down, we’ll give them a warning and let them go."
"What if they’re cutting down trees on a large scale?" Douglas continued.
"Well, that’s even simpler," Sean sneered. "Use your skills—puncture their tires, set traps—make their lives miserable. If they want to make a fortune here, they can talk to us nicely. Stealing on a large scale won’t be tolerated!"
With the plan settled, the four of them decided what to do next.
That evening, they ate a quick meal of self-heating food and went to rest.
Early the next day, Sean and Elijah formed one group, while Douglas and Lincoln formed the other. They drove off from the campground in separate vehicles.
Driving the huge Ford Raptor, Elijah jokingly said as they drove:
"Taking road trips abroad is really risking our lives—dammit, we’ve only met two groups of people, and they’re both outlaws!"
Just now, they had entered a forked road where a truck was parked by the side, and people were loading wood onto it.
Sean and Elijah got out of the car and told the driver that the forest belonged to them, asking the thieves to leave immediately.
It was meant to be friendly advice, but the driver rudely insisted that the wood was unclaimed and even threatened Sean and Elijah with a gun.
Elijah shot the man’s hat off and then shot a hole in his arm.
The man immediately surrendered and begged for mercy.
Sean Knight told his subordinate to quickly drive away.
Next, they encountered a pickup truck with logs. Seeing Sean knight and his group, they started shooting directly.
Elijah Hastings was so angry that not only did he injure the attackers, but he also scrapped all four tires of their vehicle.
After warning them, they continued driving.
Later, it became less frequent.
Two hours later, they finally encountered a large group.
Seven trucks had already cleared a football field-sized area within the primitive forest.
Logs were piled up like mountains, and many people were operating machinery to cut and transport them.
Looking at the tracks, it was clear that many logs had already been taken away.
The leader, Owen Stewart, used to be Brown’s manager left in charge of guarding the camp.
After Brown’s death, Owen was aware that a new boss would be coming, so he originally planned to wait for him.
However, when he heard that the new boss was Chinese, he decided not to work for Sean Knight—his grandfather was a veteran who suffered a beating on the 38th Parallel and thus had no good feelings towards Chinese people.
Owen himself had secretly logged timber under Brown. Brown didn’t care, as he was more interested in the treasure here.
Now that Brown was gone, Owen simply made logging his main business. In his opinion, the new owner would not have the ability to deal with him—after all, he was the real local snake just a minute away from making it very difficult for the new boss to move here.
"Use this gun." Sean took out two Mauser 98K sniper rifles with telescopes from the back of the car. He handed one to Elijah and kept one for himself:
"Today, let’s consider this hunting."
These people were clearly organized in their illegal logging, and Sean even spotted some guards patrolling nearby with guns.
So, there was no need to greet them.
"Boss, I can handle it. You’ve never sniped before..."
"It’s just guerilla warfare," Sean laughed. "Hasn’t one seen a pig run even if they haven’t eaten pork? Don’t worry, I can shoot and change my position. This dense forest won’t cause any trouble for me.
Hide the car, then let’s get started."
Sean left with the gun. After a few steps, he said, "Try not to kill anyone."
Elijah responded, and the two split up to go in separate directions.
A few minutes later, the first gunshot sounded.
A hole was shot into the fuel tank of one of the trucks. The oil inside flowed down through the hole.
The gunshot caused panic among the loggers. The operators of the machinery stopped immediately and sought cover.
Owen was also startled and hid under a truck at first.
After a while, when he didn’t hear any more gunshots, he raised his walkie-talkie and loudly yelled:
"Donald! Hurry up, find the shooter and bring me that bastard’s head! Go!"
Donald was the security guard captain hired by Owen. At the moment, he was crouched cautiously behind a car, observing the direction of the gunshot.
Because the gunshot was sudden, he only had a rough idea of the direction and didn’t know the specific location.
However, as a security guard captain and a retired military man who had been on the battlefield, he had a keen sense of direction.
He signaled a few of his men hiding nearby, and they alternated in moving towards the approximate direction of the gunshot.
Just as they reached the edge of the clearing, another gunshot suddenly rang out. The man running in front was shot in the leg and screamed as he fell to the ground!
There was more than one person!
Donald realized this immediately. He felt a chill run down his spine, knowing that the enemy was using sniper rifles. They were in big trouble!
