Chapter 218: Chapter 203: Missing Cargo_2

Jason hurriedly asked:

"Have you seen Wilson?"

As Elijah processed the capybara, he said:

"He saw a monkey and chased after it."

A monkey?

Sean Knight’s expression was a bit strange. As for creatures that looked like humans, he really couldn’t bring himself to eat them even if there was food available.

However, Jason seemed happy and said:

"It seems Wilson was right that there’s plenty of prey in this jungle, he’ll be back soon."

Elijah looked odd but didn’t say anything. After a short while, he finished cleaning the capybara and put it in the pot.

Sean gave him a piece of compressed dried food, which Elijah took and started nibbling on while removing the scum from the pot.

Once the pot boiled, he added some seasoning and covered it with a lid.

Everyone around swallowed their saliva, nibbling on tasteless compressed food.

Jasson suddenly stood up and said:

"I will fetch some more wood. Once Wilson catches a monkey, we’ll need more firewood to cook it."

He then went into the jungle and came back shortly after, holding some dry branches which he broke into smaller pieces.

The capybara meat was tender. In less than half an hour, it was ready to eat.

At mealtime, Jason hesitated and said:

"I’ll wait for Wilson’s monkey meat."

Elijah didn’t bother arguing with him and helped himself to two pieces of meat.

At that moment, they heard Wilson’s cry for help from the jungle, accompanied by gunshots.

Everyone immediately dropped their bowls and pulled out their guns. Jason ran to rescue Wilson, while Elijah and Lincoln protected Sean and the others.

Sean also took out his pistol and stood guard.

Hans and Mila immediately hid among the backpacks, lowering their bodies as much as possible to avoid being detected.

Then they saw Wilson emerge from the jungle, hopping and jumping as he fled, shooting his gun behind him!

’Enemy’ following him was, surprisingly, a group of a dozen monkeys!

These monkeys were agile, with long tails, leaping among tree branches, holding stones or unidentified berries in their hands, throwing them at Wilson from time to time.

When the berries burst open, they stained Wilson’s clothes in smelly juice.

Seeing that it was merely monkeys, everyone sighed in relief. Sean felt both amused and annoyed.

Instead of catching any monkeys, Wilson had almost become their prey. He indeed seemed ’ambitious but talentless’.

To save face, Jason, who had brought Wilson into the team, had to shoot and kill several monkeys.

Faced with more people, the monkeys hesitated, stopped chasing after Wilson, let out an intimidating cry, and retreated back into the jungle.

Wilson showed no embarrassment. He even went back to the jungle to drag out a monkey that Jason had killed, laughing and saying:

"There’s actually quite a bit of meat on these monkeys."

He asked Elijah:

"Elijah, could you peel the skin off this monkey?"

Elijah glanced at him and didn’t respond, continuing to chew on the meat in his bowl.

Seeing Elijah ignoring his request, Wilson eyed that meat in the pot and said:

"Let’s have the monkey meat this afternoon, there’s plenty of meat for noon."

Without even washing his hands, he took his bowl and tried to scoop meat from the pot.

"Go wash your hands!" Lincoln blocked him, "You’ll dirty the pot, how will others eat?"

Lincoln had been practicing his English recently, and he could now speak quite fluently.

Wilson didn’t want to wash his hands, but as neither Lincoln nor Elijah indulged him, he had no choice but to do so before coming back to get food.

As Wilson ate, the others were almost done with their meals. After washing the dishes, they started dividing into groups.

"Mr. Hans, you and Mila, as well as the injured, stay here," Sean suggested, "Elijah and I’ll head west, Jason east, while Lincoln, Wilson, and others will stay behind to protect all of you."

Hans had no objections.

Apart from searching for the treasure, he had already started relying on Sean Knight in other aspects. Mainly because Sean’s decisions had been correct, and he had saved everyone’s lives more than once.

Hans wasn’t a fool; he didn’t want to steal the limelight like Wilson Johnson.

After splitting up, Sean and Elijah Hastings went west, while Jason Caldwell had no objections and gave Wilson a few instructions before heading east alone.

After finishing his meal, Wilson wiped his lunch box and packed it up. Lincoln Harrington had already cleaned up the pot while Wilson was eating, and was now patrolling around with a gun, vigilantly watching for any danger.

Wilson looked at Lincoln and said:

"Keep an eye out. I’ll go check the other directions."

Lincoln didn’t pay attention to him, suspecting that he was slacking off.

Sean and Elijah headed west for about ten minutes and found a totem—naturally located using Sky Eye.

Sky Eye was incredibly useful at this time.

Sean also noticed that in this area, the energy of Sky Eye recovered very quickly, more than five times faster than usual!

After finding a totem, Sean and Elijah were excited, which proved Hans’ words were correct.

"Let’s continue west and see if there are any more totems." Sean said this to Elijah, knowing that he was worried about whether the first discovered totem was at the far left, meaning there should be two more totems to the west.

Continuing west, as expected, they found another totem ten minutes later.

The three totems looked almost identical, each over two meters tall, depicting strange people with angular foreheads and an area of two meters square devoid of any plants.

Having found the totems, Sean and Elijah returned, leaving markers along the way.

By the time they returned, Jason and one of the other mercenaries had come back, but there was no sign of Wilson.

Sean didn’t mind and told Hans:

"We found two totems over there just like this one! If we set out now, we’ll definitely reach the area near the treasure before nightfall."

"Let’s move!" Hans was excited. "I can’t wait to see what the treasure looks like!"

Everyone immediately began packing up their stuff, and Jason was worried that Wilson hadn’t returned yet.

Hans had no choice but to say:

"Let’s wait a bit then. Jason, go look for him. Wilson shouldn’t be doing this."

Jason’s face fell as he walked away, saying:

"When I find Wilson, I’ll deduct his pay!"

He said this while sneaking a glance at Sean.

Sean showed no reaction, guessing that Jason wanted him to put in a good word for Wilson.

After all, he had appeared harmless since they had met.

But Sean wasn’t a fool; Wilson was clearly targeting him, unlike the friendly Jason, who had a condescending attitude like some locals in America, so why should he help him?

Ten minutes passed, and Jason returned with another mercenary named Green, but there was still no sign of Wilson.

Green nodded reluctantly. He was injured and his mobility was limited, although he had improved. Staying here didn’t pose much danger—in fact, they hadn’t encountered any animals in the jungle that could directly threaten them yet.

However, left alone, Green cursed Wilson for running all over the place, causing him to miss out on joining the team.

Hans didn’t interfere with Jason’s arrangements and simply led Sean and Elijah towards the next totem after packing their equipment.

Upon reaching the second totem, Hans and Sean confirmed the direction and then headed towards the treasure.

Jason wanted to wait for Wilson, but Hans was too impatient.

Thus, Jason had no choice but to follow Hans and the others.

With the goal in sight, Hans became chatty, going on about the hardships he had endured for decades in search of the treasure, how he had made money, gained experience, and failed time and again.

At an emotional point in his story, Hans couldn’t help but wipe away his tears—they were finally about to find the treasure!

Sean couldn’t understand, but he sympathized.

As they chatted and walked, about an hour later, a large vacant land appeared in front of them.

It was as big as a football field and completely devoid of plants.

In the center of this vacant land was a stone platform five or six meters high. If not for the clearing, the platform wouldn’t have been particularly conspicuous.

But now, in the center of this clearing, it stood out.

Seeing Hans’ expression, Sean knew that this must be their destination.
