Chapter 217: Chapter 203: Missing Cargo
That night, nobody slept well as they were afraid of encountering more problems.
Fortunately, it was a peaceful night.
The next morning, they quickly ate and continued on their way.
The tropical jungle was hot and stuffy, and soon everyone was drenched in sweat.
Even so, no one complained of tiredness or suggested taking a break.
The atmosphere last night that made people sleep deeply had really frightened them.
Gradually, the jungle was no longer dense, and the air circulated faster, making it less stuffy. Sean Knight felt much more comfortable.
Glancing at Hans Hunter, he noticed the old man constantly looking around while holding a map and mumbling to himself.
Sean guessed, could it be that they were approaching their destination?
"There’s a strange totem pole up ahead."
Lincoln Harrington, who was scouting ahead, signaled everyone to stop and pointed at a location, saying,
"You guys look over there."
Wilson Johnson, who was supporting an injured mercenary, scoffed, "What’s so interesting about a totem pole? Didn’t we see many of them at the relic site?"
His words made the atmosphere awkward.
Sean said lightly,
"If you think there’s nothing, then let’s keep going."
Wilson immediately stopped talking.
Sean was virtually half the boss, so Wilson could confront Lincoln, but not Sean.
If it weren’t for Sean, Wilson would have died yesterday. Even if he didn’t die, he would have had no complaints if they had cut his mercenaries by half on this trip.
After all, he was on guard duty yesterday, and he should have discovered these situations first!
Lincoln gave Wilson an emotionless look and continued to address Sean:
"This totem pole is strange, you’ll see."
Before Sean could move, Hans had already eagerly walked over while they were talking.
"It’s...it’s this pattern!" Hans shouted out in excitement as he approached the stone totem pole:
"We found it! It’s right here!"
Everyone hurried over and saw the totem pole, which was more than one person wide and over two meters high.
The top of the totem pole was a person, or it could be said that the top meter was a human body. But this person was strange, with a small body and an unusually large head.
On the large head, there was a round hat, and a wooden thorn, or wedge, was embedded right in the center of the forehead, just where the so-called third eye would be!
And the eyes of the totem, they stared down at the people below, glaring at them.
In the area surrounding the totem pole, no grass grew within a two-meter radius!
No wonder Lincoln said this totem pole was strange!
Embracing the totem pole, Hans was so excited he nearly cried:
"It’s this one! The totem pole recorded in my father’s notes! This eerie totem pole is less than three kilometers from the treasure! As long as we find it, we will definitely find the treasure!"
At his words, everyone became excited!
Sean asked,
"How do we determine the location?"
Hans let go of the totem pole, and his emotions slowly calmed down, saying,
"There are three totem poles, arranged in a triangle. Walk in the direction of the middle totem pole, towards the midpoint of the line connecting the two other totem poles, about three kilometers, and you’ll arrive at the location where the treasure is buried."
"Can you tell which totem pole this is?" Mila Ward asked from the side.
"No." Hans shook his head. "The three totem poles are exactly the same."
"Then let’s split up and search." Jason suggested, "By the way, what’s the distance between the totem poles?"
"About one thousand two hundred meters."
"That’s simple." Jason smiled, "The distance isn’t far. We can split into groups and search separately."
Sean assessed everyone’s condition and made a suggestion:
"Why don’t we first rest and eat under this totem pole, then split up to search?"
He said to Hans,
"Mr. Hunter, since we are close to finding the treasure, there’s no need for us to rush on the road. We can find and excavate the treasure with rejuvenated spirit."
Hans nodded in full agreement and said,
"Alright, let’s rest. I’m hungry too!"
They found a flat spot nearby to rest, and Elijah Hastings volunteered to go hunting.
Wilson wanted to go too, but Jason advised him,
"Hunting is not your strong point, you should stay here and gather firewood."
"No, no, no!" Wilson shook his head, "I think hunting is not difficult, trust me, there will be gains!"
Saying that, he confidently walked towards the jungle.
Sean looked at the somewhat eerie totem pole and felt as if something was watching him.
But when he used his Sky Eye to search around, he found nothing.
They gathered wood and boiled water.
In order to escape from the anesthetic atmosphere, most people’s backpacks no longer had much left in them.
Only Sean and his companions, as well as Jason, still had food in their backpacks.
Sean took out the compressed dried food from his backpack and distributed it to everyone, then poured some hot water for each person.
"Sean, I’ll cover the fees for your two men this time," Hans said, still not fully calmed down, "We’ll deduct it from the treasure. If it weren’t for them, we might all be buried in the jungle this time."
Jason and the injured mercenary had complicated expressions after hearing this.
Sean nodded, recognizing that this was only fair.
According to the Western concept of contracts, Elijah and Lincoln did not have to worry about Hans and his party since they were hired by Sean.
But they had done as much work as Jason and his team, if not more.
Before Hans could speak further, Elijah returned with a capybara that was even larger than the one he had brought earlier.
