Chapter 215: Chapter 202: Almost Died Once!

Sean Knight and Hans Hunter discussed for a long time, and with Mila Ward’s reminders, the three of them finalized their route.

Actually, Sean was mainly just going with the flow - he knew even less about the map than Elijah Hastings and Lincoln Harrington.

However, deciding on the route was something mercenaries and subordinates didn’t meddle in. It was an unspoken rule in the team, and Jason had no interest in these matters.

By the time they finished discussing, it was already late.

Elijah and his team had tossed Doncaster Foster and the others’ bodies into the man-eating flowers. Then, the team moved to a different spot to set up camp and prepare food.

Initially, Elijah wanted to go hunting, but unfortunately, there was hardly any game near the man-eating flowers. Luckily, Doncaster and the others’ backpacks still had quite a bit of cooked food. Everyone didn’t mind and ate it before resting.

They had had an exhausting day, so after assigning watch duties for the night, they didn’t do much else.

Being close to the man-eating flowers’ territory, there were no dangerous beasts that came during the night.

At daybreak, after breakfast, the expedition continued.

The warriors from the primitive tribe took a large detour to depart, but Sean noticed that black man Wilson quietly left the team to follow the warrior.

He figured Wilson would be up to no good.

However, Sean didn’t stop him.

If Wilson was able to go about freely, it was surely Hans’ idea. Sean wasn’t a saint, he wasn’t going to risk his relationship with Hans over an unrelated person.

The team continued advancing deeper into the jungle. After walking for half a day, they found some relics.

There was a stone platform. It was unknown what building it originally belonged to, but the platform was still there.

Upon seeing the stone platform, Hans got very excited:

"We finally found it! The rest of the road should be easier!"

Sean didn’t feel the same way.

He used his Sky Eye to look further down the path and saw similar stone platforms and fragmented stone walls appearing one after another.

Could this have been a city previously?

However, Mayan cities used to hold treasures, right?

Sean didn’t know how the Mayan people perished or how Europeans later came to plunder, but he kept using his Sky Eye. Although he discovered some underground secret chambers in some of the relics, there was nothing inside them.

The team arrived at a new stone platform. They cleaned the area a bit and temporarily set up camp to rest.

After arriving here, Hans became more excited. He smiled and said to Sean:

"I took a different route on my previous trips. The dangers encountered along those routes were no less than what we faced this time. Of course, there was no man-eating flower, but there were other dangers."

"In those instances, I wasn’t so lucky. We lost many people and equipment halfway through and ended up having to turn back."

"I didn’t expect that inviting you along this time would bring such good fortune. Even though we faced danger, we managed to get through safely and finally arrived here — we’re now not far away from the real treasure. Sean, you’re more lucky than I thought!"

Sean just laughed and didn’t respond.

After eating and resting a bit at the stone platform, they had a simple lunch and set out again.

Everyone was very excited, except for Sean. The vegetation here was not as thick as before, and even though most of the ruins were covered by shrubbery, they could still be found. Sean even saw the step-styled Mayan pyramid that he’d only seen in books.

He curiously climbed up to take a look but found nothing.

Hans, however, didn’t bother. He shouted from below:

"Sean, hurry up and come down! We still have a long way to go!"

Sean could sense that Hans was far more anxious than before.

Could it be that they were close to finding the treasure, which was why he was becoming excited?

Sean descended from the pyramid and continued advancing with the team.

Wilson had rejoined the team by this point, sporting a new wound on his face.

Elijah and Lincoln seemed to have realized what was happening. They kept a little distance from the others and focused more on protecting Sean.

By nightfall, they arrived before a building with only two stone walls remaining.

Jason sprinkled sulfur to drive away poisonous insects while the others cleared away grass and shrubbery before setting up camp.

After a simple dinner, Hans said to Sean:

"Just one more day’s journey, and we’ll reach where the treasure is. Then we’ll be relying on you."

Sean simply nodded. He didn’t know much about navigating, but finding the treasure should not be a problem.

However, if there was a lot of treasure, based on their number, how much could they carry away?

Sean thought of his treasure hunt with Brown.

If he hadn’t had his spatial equipment, he imagined it would have taken Brown quite a while to move all that treasure, right?

At least they were able to land a helicopter there, but here, there was nothing.

Of course, Sean just shrugged it off with a self-deprecating laugh, it was also possible they might find nothing.

As he lay in the tent, Sean felt restless.

He was bewildered since he usually slept very well and hardly ever suffered from insomnia.

What was going on tonight?

In the middle of the night, Sean couldn’t bear it any longer and got up, intending to relieve himself and check on their surroundings.

After leaving his tent, he first called out softly for Wilson.

Sean remembered that when they went to sleep, Jason had arranged for Wilson to be the first watch of the night.

However, at this moment, Wilson was nowhere to be found?

In a hurry, he used his Sky Eye to check around and was surprised to find Wilson asleep in a corner!

Sean was a bit angry and walked over to give him a forceful slap, but Wilson still didn’t wake up!

Soon after, Sean felt something was wrong. The air seemed to have a faint, pleasant scent of grass!

Normally, in the jungle, this kind of scent was common — but now, it felt different from the usual jungle scent!
