Chapter 197: Chapter 193: A Century-Old Murder Case! _2
Although the items unearthed were only a handful, they were exceptionally well-preserved. If they were indeed from that era, they could be worth quite a bit!
Compared to the rust-covered artifacts that he had uncovered, it was a case of one’s attainments triggering envy in others!
Howard felt that he was a jest in this situation!
And yet, he was green with envy over Sean Knight’s stroke of luck!
Without his fortunate turn of events, how could he have dug up these treasures?
Thinking back to that almost five-meter-deep pit, did he have the patience to excavate it?
After discerning those skeletons under the pit, would he still have the motivation to continue?
Howard suddenly felt like he was indeed a clown in all these events!
Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings collected their findings but didn’t stop there. They continued to further their excavation, unearthing three more boxes of assortments all intricately preserved.
These included guns and ammunition, a large quantity of letters, old mainland currency, and plenty of silver coins.
Whether they’re worth anything is questionable.
Of course, their value depends on Sean Knight’s net worth.
After cleaning up these items, it started to grow dark.
Most of the treasure hunters had already left, but some persevered to witness Sean Knight’s complete excavational process.
George Thomas had even held on until now.
Watching as Sean Knight gathered his loot, George sighed:
"Sean, I truly envy your luck and admire your skills! Every time, you always manage to surprise me! I’ve realized that wherever you go, there’s bound to be treasure!"
Sean Knight just smiled and didn’t say a word.
There weren’t many people left, but David formally announced Sean knight as the recipient of the Blackstone Manor Treasure Hunter Medal, pinning the medal on his chest.
Sean Knight expressed his gratitude and left with Elijah in the car.
This trip was incredibly exhausting!
It was the most tiring treasure hunt he had ever experienced!
After dropping Elijah at the rental house, Sean Knight went straight back to the new villa and fell asleep.
From Sean Knight’s perspective, the cost-performance ratio of this treasure hunt wasn’t impressive.
But he soon changed his mind about that.
Early the next day, the phone rang.
It was from George.
Sean Knight was a bit perplexed but answered the call anyway.
"What? Someone wants to buy the documents and the silver coins?"
Sean Knight didn’t expect such rapid news!
George explained with a chuckle:
"Someone was filming while watching yesterday and posted it on the internet. Soon after, some experts claimed that among these silver coins were some rare ones and the old paper currencies were also quite scarce.
Similarly, a friend of mine thought that these documents could be valuable for research purposes, thus he wants to buy them all."
Upon hearing this, Sean asked:
"Has he proposed a price?"
"No, it depends on the specific items."
"Alright, arrange a meeting then," Sean agreed.
Having more clients is a good thing.
However, Sean played it smart. He quickly took out the items, took photos and sent them to Smith for price inquiries.
Smith responded quickly offering a price for each item and inquiring whether he could purchase them.
Sean replied saying he would think about it, to which Smith said he could slightly increase the price, but only up to a certain extent.
Smith’s words were worth heeding, so Sean now had a fairly good idea of how much his collection of items was worth.
Upon calculation, it was close to several million dollars.
The most valuable items were, surprisingly, a few specific silver coins and those letters!
According to Smith, these letters had the potential to alter the history of the American Civil War!
The history of America wasn’t very long to begin with, which is why many people wrote extensively about it, covering even minute details.
Even personal histories of some celebrities would make it in.
Now, the appearance of these letters, which were directly associated with powerful figures of the war, would undoubtedly cause a sensation in academic circles!
The documents were undoubtedly valuable!
Although they weren’t as valuable or eye-catching as that declaration, they were still noteworthy.
Sean now understood the situation.
Then he left for the coffee house where he was to meet George.
Now it was working hours, the coffee house was not crowded, rather quiet, quite suitable for business discussions.
Carrying a small package, Sean Knight entered the coffee house. A waiter approached him and confirmed that he was Mr. Knight.
After receiving affirmation, the waiter led Sean to the second floor, which had private rooms.
George Thomas and a middle-aged, handsome white man were in the middle of a discussion.
As Sean entered, both of them greeted him with a smile.
However, Sean could sense the formal courtesy, aloofness, and disrespect from the middle-aged white man.
This slightly upset Sean, but he figured it was just part of doing business.
On the other hand, George was very enthusiastic and introduced Sean to the other man.
"Mr. Knight, this is Mr. Toone who is interested in purchasing and studying the finds you brought yesterday."
He then turned to Toone and said,
"This is the promising young Mr. Sean Knight from New York’s treasure hunting community."
Seeing that Toone was just smiling and not making a move, Sean directly sat down without waiting for George to order coffee and said,
"I brought samples of the items with me, Mr. Toone. If you are interested in purchasing any of them, please make an offer."
He then removed three gold coins, three silver coins, and two paper documents from his bag.
The paper documents were mostly covered, only revealing the headings and a few lines of text.
Within the gold and silver coins, two were regular editions, one was a rare. They were all quite representative.
Sean didn’t bring the other things since George didn’t mention them in their earlier discussions, so he anticipated that Toone might not be interested.
Seeing the items Sean placed on the table, Toone’s eyes lit up!
George, however, thought this was rather impolite and clung to formalities, saying with a chuckle,
"Mr. Knight, let’s have a cup of coffee while we discuss. The coffee beans here are very pure, hand-ground, and quite aromatic."
Sean nodded in gratitude, then turned his attention to Toone.
Toone was eager to examine the coins and documents. He even tried rather rudely to remove the covers, but Sean quickly admonished him,
"Mr. Toone, don’t move! If you can confirm these are genuine and intend to buy, give me a price and we can negotiate. There will be time to examine the rest then!"
Sean’s words were somewhat cryptic, but Toone understood that he shouldn’t touch the covered items unless he planned to buy them.
Toone was annoyed. He was somewhat famous in the collector’s world, and this Chinese boy dared to be so cautious of him?
He looked towards George.
George felt rather embarrassed, as he met Sean’s determined stare.
Clearly, Sean had no intentions of backing down.
What a joke!
Did Toone expect to look down on him and take his things without paying? There was no such thing as a free lunch!
George had no choice but to tell Toone,
"You guys talk, you guys talk!"
He then rose to go order the coffee.
Toone was torn between leaving and wanting the items in front of him.
He had already sensed their value from the video he saw yesterday.
Not only were the special coins of interest, but the paper documents were also important!
If he could extract history-changing information from them, his fame would spread throughout America!
What a significant profit that would be!
"Fine, I’ll overlook your rudeness." Finally, Toone decided to take a step back. He said to Sean, "These gold and silver coins have some value, so I plan to purchase them. Such as this..."
He picked out a specific one and said,
"One thousand dollars for each gold coin, and for a silver coin like this..."
He pulled out a special silver coin and said: "Five hundred dollars. Even for other ordinary gold coins, three hundred dollars, and for silver coins, fifty dollars..."
"And for the documents," Toone knocked on the table, and after a moment’s thought, he said: "Ten thousand dollars. I will pay for everything included, how does that sound?"
At that moment, George had re-entered the room. He saw that Toone was acting as if his offer was a favor, and George thought, This is bad!
When Toone had asked him to contact Sean today, he had warned the collector, whose ego preceded him, that Sean was no naive youngster to be fooled.
But, Toone still made the same mistake!
George hoped Sean could overlook this for his sake!
Would Sean let it pass?
Clearly, he would not!
Sean stood up, swiftly gathered the items from the table, and left.
